Description
240+ area's PW with PVP, Faction warz, in a mix of Fast challenging action and RPG. The module has an AUTO-RELOAD. You have a FOOD, WATER & REST-system as well as a limited rest. The 25 shops now all use appraise and have restrictions on buy. You now need to arm your self against cold and Fire. A SET ITEM-system Diablo 2 alike. I also added a complete Faction System which allows you to join the DROW FACTION for a real race war. I have added RANDOM DROPS and treasure. I also cut down the CR of some of the bosses. I added a BootPC script for them ber buggers aswell. I have added a special something for the players that want to ESCAPE DEATH by loggin out. as well as some regular fixes (Works for the server vault only).

I'm a little confused here. I downloaded a module called Join the Dark Side and it made reference to this Soul of Fire module and when I downloaded this one it seems identical to the one I already had. So which one is the most recent one, if it's the Join the Dark side it seems to be quite incomplete in that quests don't finish. Ex. I got the "blank journal entry" Go kill the goblin demon and even after I did I still had the journal entry. As well, I tried to join the thief's guild and when I brought the minotaur's mask back the administrator took it but didn't give me anything and it didn't appear to close the quest either as he still wanted the mask I already gave him. Any direction would be appreciated.

This is a very good module. My friends and I have been playing it for several nights and have been having a blast. We are mostly interested in light story and challenging combat and this module has matched that quite well. That said, we experienced some innitial frustration while we became familiar with how the world works in the module. So new players, give it some time, maybe till 4th level or so, before you give up. This module may be difficult for starting solo players. We still haven't seen a henchman yet.
Likes:
- the basics of the module are great
- challenging combat, seems to scale well
- plenty of things to do
- bashing chests gives no treasure. Outstanding.
- encounters sometimes suprise us.
Dislikes:
- Module auto restart. Please make it go away. Server admins can do this on their own schedule.
- more direction for players to follow the plot line & quests. This might involve more dialog for key NPCs, or just more key NPCs. Maybe get rid of quick start and give us NPCs who tell us what to do.
- the food and water system does not add to the gameplay IMO.
- we don't need the books every time we log on
- New characters should be given food and water, if this is kept in the module
- trap kits are removed from inventory on login. Why?
- The vendors have some issues. Some will buy stuff, some won't, some charge 2 gp for a bedroll while the guy next door has them for 800. We've seen many inconsistencies.
- I like (timed or location specific) rest restrictions but find the one-use "sleeping materials" strange. We already pay for food and water. Why add more micro-management?
Overall, great job, thanks for creating this.

I just wanted to say, what a great mod you did. Never gets boring and alot to do. I am running this as a persistant world. I'm having problems when the server shuts down and when players come back, they dont start at their phase light. It shows that they will but when it loads in a little more, it takes you back to the start. The journals also start over like they just got there. Is there a persistant script you can recommend with your mod or am I just not configuring it right? Well that's about it, but what a dam great mod. Many Many thanks for making it.

Hey great mod. I'm starting to get the hang of where i am now when i quickstart to levels according to my own. Had a few quests where i started to think maybe the questin code was broked (eg couldnt find key etc) but after going back and actually finishing some quests, im starting to think its just difficult, which i like. This game is big with lots of levels/area and so it never gets boring. For serious gamers this is almost as good as it gets in my opinion.
nice work.

I really see no purpose to the auto restart. I mean if you want to curse someone for walking into one of Draco's empty, non-trapped, completly meaningless rooms you are the creator. But why am I being auto restarted again? I have entered no other rooms, I have not been told I am cursed, I am just trying to enjoy all the work you have done. But, if it happens again or there is no cure you can forget any chance I will play or suggest any mod you ever create.

Hi, well yes I did read the original journal. I did go to the town and got the teleport gem, supplies, etc. I spoke to that guy, got a few quests, killed the rats and the beetles, but soon got confused as to where to find the mausoleum or whatever, there was nothing to the "south".
Then I made the mistake of going to the quick start thing and the next thing I know, I'm somewhere else with no way to get back! I can't even load to where I saved! I tried going forward from there but it got more and more obscure as I went along. Each time I go somewhere i can't get back to where I was and the whole thing became more and more confusing. There's just not enough direction as to where you are or what to do.
I do realize what you try to accomplish, but I feel that as the player I'd like to have more control over my gameplay, and have the freedom to play at my own pace. I think, with all due respect, that the module is just TOO clever for its own good. I felt that I wasted about 4 hours with no results to show for it. I just don't have that kind of time to squander.
Hi there, Alfred. I know what you mean. The module is in deed huge. And it is true you can easily get lost in there. As a matter of fact, your are not the first. (A map will be made for that) Know that it is impossible to not read anything in a module of 240 + areas. And indeed there is a lot of information as there are a lot of side quests. Now to get you started on the main quest. You will just have to read your journal as it takes you trough the module. Now this might be important to. If you use the Quick start then that means that you are playing a specific quest in the module. And at that moment you dont pay attention to the story. You will only be doing that specific quest. It is obvious that you will not be able to tie up the ends at that moment or that you wont get the bigger picture. At that moment its very possible that you dont know where you are ;) As for getting back where you were there are 2 kinds of stones, one (Gem of teleportation) takes you to a temple where you can chose a specific destination. Another (Gem of teleport to leader) takes you to the party leader (LAN-Internet) I know that you will have a Soulstone in your inventory at the start too for you to find out how to make use of that (same goes for the Gem of mind travelling.)
Now as solid information for the main quest you should talk to Gerent at the City of Rahl after you have talked to Mr.Popo, to get you started for real on the main quest. Know that the Obelisk in Yestaria is very, very important as well as the smith there.
Well I guess I have given away too much already.
Pleas do continue giving suggestions and remarks.
Greetz,
Big_A3

OK, while I certainly appreciated the time and tremendous effort that must have gone into this module (I really like the use of rations and water) I'm just going to give up. It's just too cumbersome for me, I find it excessively complicated. I don't have tons of time to play computer games, and so some sort of linearity would be nice. Don't get me wrong, I like open-ended games, but this mod is just too convoluted. I'm sure the complex level interconnectivity is clear to the maker, but for me I'm finding I'm running all over the place without enough clues as to what I'm supposed to do. What I really don't like is not being able to easily go back to another area if I change my mind, and saving does not help since if you happen to use a portal that's where you're going to load regardless of where you saved. And quite frankly, I don't have the time to read through volumes of instructional text to figure out the insanely byzantine level structure and what stone to use to go wherever. I just found the mod to be needlessly frustrating to navigate.
