Description
The life of a soldier of Mynt is dangerous. Every day the men and women who man the Line that holds back the Nightblighter hordes face danger and death, but even that life is blessed when compared to their commanders. It is the leaders of men who face the toughest decisions. It is they who choose the sacrifices that must be made for King and country, they who decide which soldiers live or die. It is they who send the letters of condolence home to bereaved families. And it is they who must live with decisions that quite often get their soldiers killed. This is the life you have chosen, Captain. As the commander of Highridge Garrison, you are responsible for charting the course of action that keeps your country safe. The men and women under your command depend on you to make the right choices for the right reasons. And it is one of those tough choices that you must make today.

Certainly an interesting module to play with a paladin or cleric. _________________________ Thanks Rolo:)

I usually dont play so short a module but I'm glad every now and then I do. The module certainly drew me in for the little while it took to play, congratz!

I don't know why this module hasn't recieved more attention, as it's a nice little gem, with one of the most unusual and gripping openings that I've ever seen. I've rarely, if ever, played a module where I felt like I was faced with a genuine moral dilemna, and I found it - and the consequences of my eventual decision - to be a bit gut-wrenching. Aside from that, it's got a short but enjoyable story, interesting characters, decent dialogue that's error-free, challenging combat, and some neat custom scripts and cutscenes.
Unfortunately, this loses some points because, despite the brevity of the module, I found myself at a loss as to what to do (since some conversations won't happen until you reach a certain level), and so frustration set in, particularly when being chased by an adversary that I couldn't hurt. The invisible transition areas, along with the complete lack of map pins and journal entries, made the game more confusing than it should have been. The game levels you up very fast, which I didn't entirely mind, although it struck me as odd that a first level character would be a captain to begin with. However, the complete absence of any penalty for respawning took a lot of tension out of the module.
Aside from these flaws, it's a shame the module wasn't longer, as it was otherwise well-done, and I might try it again some day, just see what some of the other endings are like.
My camera angle seem stuck on "swivel around constantly with PC-PoV". I've pressed all the buttons on my keyboard. It backs off for a minute then straight back to swivel-view. It makes me kind of nauseous. Is there an easy way to make it stop? I really like the story and would like to keep going.

Short but fun. Really draws you into the story.

I really enjoyed this little module, and find myself hoping for a sequel. Good atmosphere, and with that introduction, good buy-in for the player to connect a bit with her character and world. Levelling was a bit fast, but enjoyable, and items available made sense in context. I got the same feeling as in a live RPG watching a skeleton drink a potion of cure wounds: "hey, that's *my* potion you're drinking, grrr." Melee recommendation was important and useful -- my fighter/bard did fine.

*
I particularly liked Corporal "Ack! What do you mean my only weapon is ineffective?!" -- especially the description which labels him "half-blind." Having to out-run or out-hide him helped balance what otherwise might have been too much straight-up hack-and-slash.
*
A strange glitch on respawn near the tree spirit mis-set factions, so the corporal was friendly, and the tree spirit hostile. (Next time through I made sure not to battle too close to the guardian, and it was fine.)
*
If the water spirit guardians don't kill the boss (sargeant?) skeleton, there's nothing the character can do -- no enchanted weapons are available before speaking to the water spirit, and can't speak to the water spirit before the sarge is dead. (First time through the guardians killed the sarge for me, so no troubles.)

underrated, I think, quite a clever starter mod.

Superb, if too short, role-playing mod.

Cute little module, though my second try with a barbarian worked better than your "recommended fighter". Guess you would like A song of ice and fire - the night's watch.mod
"On one truth in life I hold a bet - to be like Hitler you must be dead!" _________________________ "As the edge of midnight falls, the warrior stands alone. Visions of the fighting past - a thousand tales untold."

Forget one advice : it would be excellent, if possible, to give good/evil/law/chaos points in regard to the character's actions and choices.

Captain Odon Sansouci made the good choice and saved his town. The death of his men at his garrison was a necessity. Honor and loyalty are safe. I obtained the first epilog.
I give a "8,6" for this short mod. My main complaint is the too important XP gained and the too quick leveling up. Why don't you set XP at 10 as usual and begin the game 4th or 5th level ? It is what I did for my play and I am satisfied : I gained one level ;)
Two littles things : (SPOILERS below)
1/ I hardly pass the two guardians and try several times before pass them while they fight the skeletons... The only way I find (I had the mysterious branch in hand and hit the Sergeant with... )
2/ One typo noted in the beginning dialog of the narrator, 3rd sentence, 4th line : "...for it it does..." (instead of "if it")
Well, good job on this but a little too short ;) and too many XP :p

Wow its 2.30 in the morning and I should be in bed but ive just finished this mod and I loved it, gave it an overall score of 9.2 because I loved the way it turned out for my character which was bad but who will now be a dedicated undead killer. If your reading this the mod is short but well worth it just wish I had boardband now so I could do some multiplay internet action with my new character.

I really enjoyed the dialogue and story line. It was a very interesting module and I liked the level of roleplaying involved. My only complaints are that the module was short (in other words, I'd love to see additional modules - longer modules wouldn't hurt either) and some placeables (crates, barrels, etc.) caused my character to get stuck in place several times. I eventually was able to move her but it was a bit frustrating.

The attention to detail was excellent. I loved that Captain Raine's father had been killed by Jak so she wanted blood. I also like that the skeletons couldn't and wouldn't attack you if you ran and stood near the various wood spirits. That was a really nice touch and saved me from having to reload a few times when the higher level skeletons were chopping my character to bits. I also liked that my character attacked the general after he killed the squire. The narrator telling the story was also a nice touch and I'd really like to see additional modules set in this world so the story could be expanded. Overall, it was a fun and immersive roleplaying experience.
