Could be more engaging as part of a larger module, but within the limits of the contest, a pretty good effort.

6.0 QUIETUS (220TH TESTED MODULE)
This is my latest scoring system. This vote will only be cast if any of the following conditions were met:
1) The module was an EXCEPTIONAL piece now rated at 7.75 +.
2) The module was a REASONABLE piece & the module is currently above 7.75 One score of 6.0. (*)
3) The module is AVERAGE piece & the module is currently above 7.75 One score of 4.0. (*)
(*) Must have more than ten votes.
My score will still be based around the format provided by Bioware and be consistent with any previous systems used. The difference now, is that I will NOT post any vote unless it fits within the criteria above. I have done this for two reasons:
1) To prevent casting a vote that may appear against the grain of other voters and make me look the bad guy.
2) When it does fit within the above category, keep the voting fair to those I have already voted for.
NB: Judging any material is always subject to personal taste. I have tried hard to be as objective as possible. Remember, this is only my opinion; Biowares is the one that counts! If you believe I have scored your module unfairly, or I have missed something of importance, please email me at [email protected] and I will consider any comments made. Unfortunately, due to the time constraints (and the past effort of trying to answer all posts, I may take a while to answer. Sorry.)
Rather than break the score down as I have previously, I have decided to revert back to my original system and make general comments for those I do end up posting. The two categories still remain though.
Text of Module: (The Writing/Characterisation/Dialog Flow): There were noticeable errors in the writing. The logical flow was slightly off at times (or made more sense if I did things in a certain order). The words used by the characters made them awkward to appreciate.
Concept & Execution: (Creativity/Logical Flow/Drama/Pacing/Character Development/Multiple Paths): This was a slow starter for me and I almost gave up playing and was going to give it a 4.0. However, after a break, I gave this a fresh start to try to see why it had some high scores. After persevering, I realised the problem was more to do with logical flow and trying to guess the order of events on how the author wanted us to play. This, unfortunately, spoilt my experience. As an example, I guessed the password to the door quite early on, but could only say it after I had met quite a number of conditions. (NB: I ended up finishing the module a different way. I was just curious about the door.)
Conclusion: Below average characters and poor logic let this one down for me. However, the story was interesting once I had wrestled it from the module. It was linear because of this.
MY SCORE SYSTEM (IMHO):
4.0 Normally means writing errors, low drama and pacing, and/or poor logical flow. (I did not want to finish it.)
6.0 Normally means few writing errors, some drama and/or pacing & logical flow fine. (I wanted to finish it.)
7.75+ Normally means none/very few typos, good drama and/or pacing. Good NPC development & endings.
PERSONAL SCORING FACTORS (IN ORDER OF MY PRIORITIES):
GRAB FACTOR: How quickly am I involved in the action? Do I have direction?
PLOT: Is the story engaging? Is subject interesting? Varied conversation choices?
CHARACTERS: Are they easily identifiable? Are they rounded/memorable?
SPELLING & GRAMMAR: Is the text easy to read? Are there quite a few errors?
OTHER FACTORS (MINOR INFLUENCE): Design for atmosphere & scenery, including sounds & props. Quality of module stability; does it break easily? _________________________ World of Althéa Blog: Link

This module could have been brilliant without the contest restrictions, but I constantly had the feeling you were trying to do too much with what you had. This was about making choices afterall, and I don't blame you, since many of your choices were so interesting, it would have been hard to choose. However, I think if you did streamline your mod a bit, it would have been more immersive

Hmmm. Personally I found this a bit complex for a single module. As others have said, perhaps it would have been better as part of a larger whole. I wasn't always convinced by the writing style...I found that some of the dialogue options simply didn't "flow" properly into each other.

That was fun, I enjoyed your mod a lot!

Very interesting module! Some rough corners that can be put down to inexperience, but well written with interesting characters. Seems like part of a larger adventure.

My 4th Minotaur module (third guarding door). Lots of running back in forth in this complicated story. Played three of the various endings.

Nice.... this mod managed to get across a real feel of complexity, despite the limitations set by the contest, and without getting messy or incomprehensible. I had the feeling of being part of something bigger, without gettin overflown by information, and without losing a sense of control. I also liked the fact that the wizard did not spit out his whole life's story as soon as he was questioned, but was very reluctant with information. The only qualm I have is that there was a strange transition in the module (after I opened the door) where things didn't follow logically from the rest of the story. Maybe I had followed a non-standard path?

Not too bad at all really.

Interesting plot, with a broad scope of dialog options... which didn't always flow naturally. In particular, some arguments presented to the wizard should be diplayed at second of third level of the conversation, based on thier potential persuasiveness. I appreciated the interaction with the guard, but felt it was disproportionate to get so much info about the wizard from the PC's guide.

I cant tell you how glad I am to find an enjoyable adventure that doesnt know how to end itself. This isnt sarcasm; I also could not figure out how to put an ending on my story. In this case, I was able to pick up the opal over and over again.
Ive been interrupted several times while writing this review, and each time that Ive come back, Ive given the module a higher score. The more Ive thought about it, the more Ive appreciated its complexity. True, there are only really two true endings to this story. Still, there were so many ways of getting there and thats what I really appreciate.
The only things keeping the score from just shooting through the roof is the writing style. There were some errors that made the writing itself a little difficult to decode. They were just small things, but they were irritating anyway. (On an amusing side-note, my default character is female, and she referred to herself as a messenger-boy.) Also, I couldnt understand the role that the thief played in the wizards tower.
Bottom-line: This was a good module with a very interesting undercurrent to the main story. The main story only has two endings, but the variety of ways to get there, as well as some small side-stories, makes it quite enjoyable anyway. I wish I could have seen how the larger story finally concludes.
