I liked it. I was tense, and had to be careful what I said.I was given choices, and those choices did affect the outcome. Even until the last moment Iwas not sure I had chosen right but I had. That suspense made up for not being able to escape.Would make a nice short prelude to a bigger story.

I like the way your decisions have non-immediate consequences, and the way that a bad decision does not prevent you from continuing to make decisions (even though your fate is sealed).
The opening conversation can be a little odd if your PC is a gnome.

This module was good. It didn't really catch me though. What can I say? A big part of voting is based on what you really personally like. Still, good job though.

I admire this module for its cleverness - it keeps track of what you say and is ready to throw it back in your face, it asks you to think about your dialogue options and to read what you're being told carefully. The gnome is a very well realised character, and the other two are functional enough, although I didn't feel the other prisoner was so interestingly portrayed that I'd want him hanging around with me.

I think one of the problems with this is "murder investigation" suggests something that the module doesn't really deliver. Overall it was fun but a little disappointing.

this module didn't really grab me like some of your other voters, I expected more from it, given your high rating. It was very linear.

Helluva Mod!

Well made and efficient! Almost "Noir"

I agree with herrjeff. I didn't really feel like what I said had much impact on things. Still, the writing was of a high standard over all. (5.0 being average.)

7.5 THE CONVICTIONS OF FATE (218TH TESTED MODULE)
This is my updated scoring system structured around the format provided by Bioware. The final score is still consistent with my old system, but I hope to give clearer feedback within the new guidelines. NB: Judging any material is always subject to personal taste. I have tried hard to be as objective as possible. Remember, this is only my opinion; Biowares is the one that counts! If you believe I have scored your module unfairly, or I have missed something of importance, please email me at [email protected] and I will consider any comments made.
All nine Bioware points can score a maximum of 1 point each, leaving 1 point for my personal interest/like of the module.
Text of Module: (2.0 out of 3)
The Writing: (I do not scan the writing looking for errors, but if I notice something while reading it, I will note it here.) I noticed misuse of punctuation. Also incompetant > incompetent, good-bye > goodbye, coinpurse > coin purse (Was done this way once.). Somehoe > somehow (typo?) (0.5)
Characterization: I liked all the characters. (1.0)
Dialog Flow: This flowed most of the time, although there were some limited choices at times. Also, why do I automatically have an option to assume the wizard or princess caused me to do it? Also, it should be insufferable little gnome (not man). (0.5)
Concept & Execution: (4.75 out of 6)
Originality/Creativity: A trial, but one of the best I have seen done to date. (0.75)
Logical Flow: Everything seemed fine here. (1.0)
Drama: Cut-scenes to speak to different people added drama. (0.5)
Pacing: Having to find evidence before the trial (and execution) certainly kept the pace. (1.0)
Character Development: There was development in some of the characters. (0.75)
Multiple Paths: I have assumed at least three endings. (0.75)
Conclusion: Technically, this module scored above average in the writing in my opinion. (2.0/3) The story scored above average in my opinion. (4.75/6). My personal score is 0.75 out of 1.0 because although it was a standard trial scene, it was one of the best handled I have seen.
MY SCORE SYSTEM (IMHO):
< 5 Not up with the competition.
5 - 6 Average.
7 - 8 Above average.
> 8 An exceptional piece
PERSONAL SCORING FACTORS (IN ORDER OF MY PRIORITIES):
GRAB FACTOR: How quickly am I involved in the action? Do I have direction?
PLOT: Is the story engaging? Is subject interesting? Varied conversation choices?
CHARACTERS: Are they easily identifiable? Are they rounded/memorable?
SPELLING & GRAMMAR: Is the text easy to read? Are there quite a few errors?
OTHER FACTORS (MINOR INFLUENCE): Design for atmosphere & scenery, including sounds & props. Quality of module stability; does it break easily? _________________________ World of Althéa Blog: Link

Some good writing marred by several unfortunate literal errors. However, I found the plot didn't "grab" me right off and was a bit hard to get into. I also found the "non Bioware" methods of initiating dialogue and gathering evidence put me off...I note the author did this deliberately but it wasn't for me.

I played through the module once and checked it out in the toolset afterward, because I figured it wouldn't be fair to vote without viewing all of the content first. ;)
Very well done overall, but it's hard to rate as it's not necessarily a full blown gameplay module.
The writing and grammar were both top notch, and better than at least 90% of the stuff out there. I did spot a couple mistakes, however; in particular, I recall an incident when the judge referred to my female character as a male.
On a somewhat more technical note, it seemed a bit odd to me that I had to click on the gnome to initiate dialogue; it might have been better if he initiated it instead. I also found the transition from the dungeon to the court room a little jarring, but given the restrictions placed on this particular entry, it was probably sensible and not all that bad anyway.
Oh! And bravo for putting sounds on those torches! Brings little tears to my eyes!

The beginning is a little hard to get into mainly because I eventually got tired of reading the phrase 'shouting "Death to Prince Mungo!" and shooting the prince with a single-hand crossbow,' which crops up quite a lot in the beginning.
Fortunately as the module progressed it got easier to read and the writing and characterizations were quite good.
I know the author is seeking the job, so it's pertinent to point out that from a rules standpoint the wordcount is quite high compared to most modules in the contest. That in itself isn't necessarily bad but there was a lot of dialog that I feel could have been trimmed down which wasn't. This does have trouble qualifying as a "traditional sidequest" what with the whole having amnesia, going to jail, and possibly dying if you don't pick the right choices.
Strict rules analysis aside, this entry is very solid with a cool character in Gebby, a slightly less interesting character in Tynda (why can't I chastise him on having a girly name?) and a completely uninteresting character in the judge fellow.
The writing was in general above average. Of the countless modules that follow a similar schema of "Prove Yer Innocence!", this is one of the better ones.

There IS something about my entry though that I feel no one has commented on that I'd like to point out to people.
One of the things I don't like about Bioware's RPG's is the way you recruit companions or henchmen. Usually there's a one time dialogue and you either persuade or give them some money and away you go.
With my entry I tried to present a more narrative driven way to recruit or hire npcs for your group. Instead of just meeting someone and suddenly they're following you into battle, I've presented here a reason for this NPC to go with you and help you in a fight. I'd much rather go through a short side quest or event in order to find new NPC companions and friends rather than just walk up to a guy saying "Hire me!"
My module might not make that aspect entirely clear except in dialogue hints near the end. Part of that might come from the fact that I scrapped my original entry idea two nights before the deadline and wrote this one from scratch

Looks like the better module

My third or fourth trial. Not the best way to gather evidence. Bioware wouldn't do it this way. Has 4,738 words of conversation and about 250 in journals. Played two endings.

It's entirely possible that Vagalhor somehoe > somehow
... poison in my food that put me in some a suggestive... > rewrite "some a"
Good writing otherwise. Good character development. Linear plot where choosing the wrong option is fatal. The module is flawlessly executed (no pun intended lol). Interesting enough to make you try again if you fail the first time.

This module is very linear and offers limited involvement of the PC, relying mostly on a lot of external information to solve the issue, through intervals that break the pace of the mod. Dialog options provide a few choices for interaction with NPCs but without consequences on their attitude towards the PC.

Not too bad really. (The popular voting has nothing to do with whether or not Bioware hires you, but it will help determine who wins prizes like coffee mugs, etc.)

The perfect score of the four previous voters cought my attention (even if one of them is the author of this mod himself). I must say I was rather sceptic - such high scores arouse suspicion. But in the end, I quite liked this little mod: it is a tight, well-written piece of work. It does have some flaws: it is very lineair, it contains some minor typos, and it is not original in any way. But on a whole I found the module enjoyable, and I am looking forward to the rest of the adventure.

I'm completely biased as the author of the module, but I'd KILL for a shot (however slight) at a job at BioWare so giving myself a 10 out of 10 somehow seems easier to stomach.

Excellent writing, interesting and involving story, good NPC detail, logical story progression with multiple paths and results, cute humor sprinkled in.... This is top notch! :)
