Description
A hundred years ago, a young priest named Veramus received a mysterious prophecy from a god long thought to be dead. Though uncertain in its wording, the prophecy spoke of the Unmasking of Divinity at the hands of a mortal, and a change in the worlds pantheon. Few knew what this could truly mean. Could it be the downfall of a good deity or an evil one? Would the prophesied Unmasker be a hero, or a villain of the highest caliber? Whatever the truth, the prophecy divided the Temple itself; causing debate, controversy, and ultimately the excommunication of the prophet Veramus and those who followed him. Regarded now as heretics, Veramus and his followers fled the Temple and formed their own order, dedicated to the interpretation of his prophecies. In distant lands they found their new home, at the base of a sacred tower that rose to the heavens themselves. There, they have toiled for a hundred years to discover the truth behind their founders vision.
All your life you have lived in their monastery, raised by monks who live by the ancient prophecy, a prophecy that they say you may fulfill. Your mentor always told you that you had a great fatea powerful destiny that you would one day realize. Now the day has come for you to prove yourself. You are to descend below the Tower and undergo the Trials of the Unmasker. Your future lies before you; uncertain and dangerous, containing perils to both body and soul. It is up to you to decide your fate; whether you will accept it, reject it, or walk your own path.
Shadows of Divinity is a plot-driven series of modules for NWN2. It features a custom world with extensive lore, and places your character in a role intrinsic to the story. In Shadows of Divinity, your choices and behavior make a difference. Your choices, for good or for evil, will alter the course of events.
The series begins in the isolated citadel where you have lived all your lifewhere a titanic tower rises to the heavens themselves, surrounded by pristine mountain vistas. Your quest will take you to many places; mist-shrouded isles inhabited by demented locals, an ashen wasteland haunted by spirits, and eventually the plane of the gods themselves, as you seek to unravel the mystery of your fate.
This module is to be the prelude for my upcoming NWN2 series, when that game is released. It is, in effect, a playable demo; though it stands alone.

Interesting prologue, with developed background and a few puzzles. Fights in large areas required a lot of shoot/run/hide for my low-str halfling rogue/bard, as expected.

I have to say I liked this. I like that despite being a prelude to your upcoming NWN2 module, this one stands alone.
Some very interesting concepts here, and if I do get NWN2 (still undecided on that), I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with them.

Really good beginning! Looking forward to the next module in the series.
Indeed, this module is a small preview of what is to come when NWN2 arrives. The stories and places mentioned in the library books will have a large part to play in the upcoming chapters. Honestly, I'm itching to put out the whole series, but I think that with the concepts I have in mind, the new engine will work a whole lot better, plus by the time I'm done with the series, the second game will be pretty established anyway, so I might as well wait. :)
But what about the other areas you mention in your description. As with your books, part 1, 2, 3? Will you finish this stand alone module with these or will all this happen when nwn2 comes out? _________________________ Does this armor make my butt look big?

@Lomondra: Yep! That's it... for now. This is afterall just a Prelude to the rest of the series (Read the Description! 8)). Save the game at that point and then wait until NWN2 arrives at which time this (we hope 8)) and the rest are to be built using THAT instead. _________________________ We are all born ignorant, but one must work to remain ignorant.
I get to the docks and the ship's wheel gives 2 choices: to end the module or not ready to leave. Is this the end of the module, or am I missing something? _________________________ Does this armor make my butt look big?

It is a good start of a serious. I wonder if NWN2 can let you have the entire series in a single module. _________________________ Yes I am made out of rocks. Now go do something.

@TolenHaznael: I've had that occuring in a couple of CEP related/built and it seems to be just that: a quirk. Sometimes it's there others... _________________________ We are all born ignorant, but one must work to remain ignorant.

I'm not entirely certain lillilimo, as I'm going to guess that you are not playing the North American version but rather the Eupopean one. In that case it *could* be asking for you to update NWN from 1.66 => 1.67. Other than that, I can safely say that I've played this module under 1.66 & 1.67 with no difficulties. Also, you should go to the Vault's CEP page and download their patch which also may be causing problems. Other than that... Anyone else? _________________________ We are all born ignorant, but one must work to remain ignorant.
Sorry, I don't understand (i'm italian9.
I have SOU+HOTU 1.66 and CEP 1.52, but when the game starts it says: you don't have the version updated of the game.
Why?

Unless the author(s) actually specify which patch is needed no. _________________________ We are all born ignorant, but one must work to remain ignorant.
Missing bits? Interesting. I used one of the CEP appearances for it, and those do screw up occasionally. I'll check it out.
Yes, and you won't be able to go back upstairs after the Durgys fight...though in the NWN2 version I migh add a cutscene to show what happens up there after you leave.

TolenHaznael,
Check the armors. I went back "inside" and after taking Bro. Dugys out, noticed that the chainmail +1 was missing bits. I never did go back upstairs but I'll most likely do so later on.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Yes, I will be redoing this specific module for NWN2: It will basically serve as the intro for the series, which I believe will have 5 parts. Hopefully with the new camera and fully sizeable objects in NWN2, I'll be able to do justice to the Tower of Ascension. I also plan to expand a few of the conversations in the final version, and include some voice acting as well.
Thanks for pointing out the keys; I'll probably update those to be removed in the next fix, plus double check for spelling errors, etc. Some of those things are a easy to miss the first time through.
SPOILER:
Most melee and pure casters won't have too much trouble with the module. The hardest to play are rogues and bards. Rogues note that you CAN pickpocket the keys for the Competence trial. The final battle for good-aligned characters is tough if you can't do much damage, though not impossible.

@ Alcarin: Yuppers on that! I realized that as soon as I returned there and low and behold I found the altar. Guess it pays to pay attention to one's map when playing 8)! As for redoing this in NWN2 I for one HOPE SO!!! _________________________ We are all born ignorant, but one must work to remain ignorant.

A good beginning. Good enough to make me want to see the rest of the story. :)
As Hagaar said, spelling errors float around and should be checked. The keys aren't as big of a deal. They can either be dropped or sold/stuffed into a box or something in the next module.

Hagaar,
==== Spoilers ===
I had something of the same problem, but then I realized I only had the Cup of Passion and not the Essence, which is at the back of that 'room' with an altar.
And yes, TolenHaznael, the three keys would be good to remove, as well as the Cup of Passion when you are done with it, unless it's going to be turned into something else in the sequel. :)
Overall, though this does look very interesting and you were right in that some classes will fare better than others, though you should specify which classes (melee, cleric or magic-users).
I definitely look forward to the rest of the story. Are you going to re-do this in NWN2?

Ermm...
Never mind. I figured it out. Great job but a couple of things:
1. As noted in my previous post, do something about the keys. They aren't much good once they've been used.
2. Check your spelling, as I'm not certain if English is your "first" language I'd suggest a great little program by Hans Olsen. Great for spellchecking etc.
3. In the Passions Area. Fix that doorway inside please! I had to move my camera angle up so I could place my cursor on the otherside. the door has a transition trigger there, making it impossible to go through without winding back outside. I'd suggest another method here.
You "suggested time" was a bit off, but then I didn't waste time by wandering around the upper area, before heading to the Trials area, so it might be fine. It took me about 45 minutes to finish once I began the Trials.
The reason for 9.5: Minor spelling errors which aren't really that bad but might pose a problem for others. Those KEYS and the doorway *are* problems you should look into in your next update, should you choose to do one between now and release of NWN2.
Looking forward to the rest!! _________________________ We are all born ignorant, but one must work to remain ignorant.

TolenHaznael,
*** SPOILERS ***
I've managed to complete the seven trials and gotten the "rewards". Upon my return to the central courtyard and the Mysterious Gem, I am NOT able to proceed. Why? I have all seven items (Plus three keys that you shoul have tagged to be removed from inventory once used). Have I missed something????
*** END SPOILER ***
Also, I've run into some spelling errors throughout the area. _________________________ We are all born ignorant, but one must work to remain ignorant.

Just DL'd your mod and it does look interesting! I have found a few spelling errers 8) but other than that, I'm enjoying this and just like you I'm waiting for NWN2! From what I've seen, it's going to be awesome! _________________________ We are all born ignorant, but one must work to remain ignorant.
