Explore sinister forests and dark crypts filled with numerous traps and secrets to solve the mystery of the attack upon a defenceless village. Be careful to distinguish your enemy from your friend... An adventure for one or more PCs of at least 7th level. v3 corrects some bugs, and makes some optimisations, including a random encounter resting script.

Average plot. SPOILER(soul splitting was nice twist at the end, but the rest of the story boring)
- typo: "hoarde" - conversation with village elder
- weird squares in the initial conversation
- the module is rather unbalanced, it's easy to die if you are not 10th level and in fact it is how I found out,
- that respawn is free
- little girl dies because she attacks the skeleton, can't finish her quest thus
- no bags of holding, only 1 merchant(that gets killed by skeleton from little girl quest)
- final fight with evil cleric: wtf, I can't even harm him with +2 weapons I got from the mod.. thanks FSM his enchantments finally wear off after I have been killed like 10 times
- bad design of encounters: they sometimes spawn behind you
- XP loop: 1000XP each time you talk to any villager and ask for directions to the cleric
- cleric mentioned in the readme and comments below did not attack me on the road

I just happened to finish "Strife in Grimbone" last night, and I used same character in "Chaos Squared" today! Had fun, thanks! :)
I noticed that in v2 the cleric comes and attacks me on the road North, but in v3 the cleric didn't do that. Maybe I didn't step on a tile to start that, but a head's up.
Also, there's an endless experience loop of 800 exp. if you keep talking to the villagers about the cult after talking to Norbert. Might want to fix. Interesting so far though. Will vote when I'm done.
Not sure how Steve managed to play this one.
After reading "the story so far" I got a strange journal entry about some evil cleric??? All I could see was an old woman and the villagers in distress. Soon after a skeleton warrior (doing 20 HP dmg or so per hit) came out of nowhere (there is a trigger for that one in fact) and killed everyone in the village. I will restart the module but I am not sure if this is working as designed.

A little abrupt as opposed to John's larger works and character doesn't export, but good nevertheless. _________________________ Steve's Characters - please don't forget to vote on them if you play them.
Thanks,

Hour long addy that has some nasty surprises.
Addy sets up very nicely, with a "what has gone before" style text to bring you up to speed. Plot itself is standard fodder, and after playing the author's other packs I found myself a tad disappointed.
Sped through the addy in around an hour, 2 chars at the upper suggested limit in the readme.
No shops, that I could find. I wasn't looking too hard mind you. "Village" almost non-existent... but then in an hour long addy I don't expect to be heading "back to town" an awful lot. You do find some nice eq, notably so in the final chamber, but at our level our current equipment was superior. Luck of the draw.
Temple nicely laid out, complete with traps. Enemies have a tendency to appear en masse, and there's a good sprinkling of magic users. Very VERY nasty traps which managed to claim the life of a stoneskinned L12 druid/ranger, so keep your eyes peeled for red tiles.
Exp is generous, for what few quests there are. Final exp payoff VERY generous indeed, and a nice (if formulaic) resolution to the plot. A good addy if you need to level up in a hurry, or only have a short time to play.
You ARE warned about "not being able to rest" within the temple, and its an added challenge since spell users will have to be VERY careful about spell choices. Resting works, in the sense that you will gain health back, but don't expect to use the dull method of "fire off all spells, rest, fire off all spells, rest" and so on.
All told, a fun hour long blast. Use for quick games or trying to drag up trailing low level characters to the same level as the rest of the party. Definitely check out the author's other modules to see addys that take a bit more time to accomplish and are more "lived in".
