Description
A simple dungeon expedition becomes a race against evil, with lost artifacts from the Chaos War as the ultimate prize. Eventually, you can enter the Hall of Worlds and visit different realms(basis for the next Chp). This module is mostly hack/slash, and doesn't take itself too seriously. There are over 30 henchmen to recruit( many have level, sex, race and item requirements):use the right tool for the right job.WARNING: Not for kiddies. Some nudity and mild/humorous profanity. Hidden halfway through the module is the PORNSTAR MINI-GAME: a porno spoof/scavenger hunt that contains scenes of extreme innuendo. If you are easily offended, then do not seek the special item that initiates the secret dialogue options. You must CHOOSE this path, it is not forced on you and isn't required to play the game.

@ BloodmoonX : There is a way back from Balmorian Challange just use teleporters in reverse order.

Blacksteel chronicles are definitely better, though I like the concept of "the hall of the worlds"(and basically all other planescape like settings)

Issues:
- no ending
- no death penalty, unless you count undroppable PC Properties
- trapdoor on 5th level does nothing
- can't take necromantic chain and helm - so the power trip quest cannot be finished
- starting 1st level, firstly I was getting killed, but then in 2/3rds of the game everything was too easy, the module just does not scale properly, If u use for example 5th level PC, then you will have it too easy soon, but If u use 1st level as I did you will have to hide behind your henchies.
- henchmen don't level up, There is no sense in taking the weaker ones. Also me being first level and the henchmen being 8th, I just sat and waited for them to deal with enemies.
- little more bags of holding for the loot would be nice
- lots of backtracking(especially the dungeon)
- "blank journal entry" for henchmen
- too much monsters of the same type for it to be enjoyable(combined with too big areas sometimes.)
- warden fights with orcs
- some encounter are respawning(orcs in grunwalds base, skeletons near Yolani, undead in necropolis)
- necromant henchman casts negative ray on skeletons thus healing them, that really helps the fight. Except that they are enemy skeletons.
- typo: "wand of missles"
- dragon was tougher than the dark lord, who fell right away(was the same level and eq)
- some doors and placeables give one liner that refers to them as "chest", that can only be opened by corrupted by the essence, blah blah. Well it tells player nothing. I figured what type of the key I should use, but those chest being scattered far away, I just lef them unopened.
- male planeswalker has female portrait
- zimm attacks sharissa(AoE spell makes them hostile to each other) in grunwalds base
- one werewolf dropped silver necklace. Com'on silver?
- crafting by bosco: at first I didn't know what items to keep, sometimes he takes every item(if they are stacked) and takes too much money(solution to this is to drop all your money to the ground).

Original heavy H&S vintage module. Probably best played with a character with UMD.

I do prefer Blacksteel Chronicles though.

I've explored all 11 levels of the Dungeon,(if there's a 12th) I haven't found an enterence) and all the available Worlds in the Hall. I'm stuck now, as I've completed the Balmoran Challange, but cannot seem to find a way back thru the maze of teleporters. Is there a bug here, where one can get stuck with no way back?

Well, i finished it. Sort of. Trouble is, there are very few clues what you should do next, and I'm not sure if I had done everything that was ment to be done. I have killed all generals, dark lord and the dragon, but dwarf in the stump has no new dialogue option. There are some issues with henchmen, also. And with enemies - I can not search body of an enemy.

Well done!
Will look for your other modules as well.

Can't believe people are still playing this old mod and enjoying it! It was my first mod and even after multiple adjustments, it's still a little rough around the edges.

I'm also surprised you found this mod. The way the vault is set up now, I can't even find my own mods with the search engine. I had to go through about 40 some pages to find it. Oh well.

It's been a while, but I believe the key to Pandora's Box is on a corpse in the Krakura Desert. I remember revamping the whole Necropolis quest and I thought I made things easier. Might have to check it out again.

The Hall of Worlds is meant to be infinite, so feel free to tie it in with your mod Grimlok! Just beware the insanity it brings, as you'll see in Chaos War Saga Chp 2: Lost in the Hall of Worlds. If I ever finish the damn thing that is....

Once again, I'm glad you guys are having fun and thanks for your support!

Just have a little problem...

I have the essence but still can't open Pandora's Box.

What's wrong?

Thanks for any help and again I'm having a blast.

One more thing, can I borrow your Hall of Worlds for a little module I might do?

Thanks again-

Hi,

Just wanted to say so far I like this module and I LOVED the Black Steel Campaign.

I hope you do ALOT more.

All that being said... there a couple of things that I haven't been able to figure out yet. I'm afraid I'm missing some things...

Do you have everything you need on each grouped set of levels to finish thpose levels or are some special things from deeper levels required to do everything.

Again thanks alot-

Loved it, challenging combats, brill npcs, good plot/storyline. Only drawback was vamp npc was invulnerable to all damage. Used her for a couple of combats, one in particular, then the DWF came along, with my wife to be?

Thought blacksteel chronicles was excellent as well

Cheers and any news on other projects

Thought I'd made comments and voted on this but have not. Reason I played mod is Blacksteel Chronicles. This one is truly excellent.

That last post was from me, the creator of this mod. I just forgot to add my name. Sorry about that.

Sorry you're having problems Hugo, but it seems there's nothing for me to fix. I've used the same Raise Dead script in my 2 new mods under construction and it works fine in all 3 of them. A buddy of mine just finished going through this mod for the umpteenth time and had no problems raising his henchmen. I've had a few fans ask me questions and they never brought up any Raise Dead issues. In fact, out of 2000+ downloads, you're the only person who has reported this as a problem. If you send me an email with specific examples of how it's not working for you, I'll try and help you out if I can. I rarely visit this page, so future postings here may not get a response for awhile.

Sorry, but "Raise from Death" doesn't works. I've tried with scrolls, the Rebirth Ring and also with the Wand from the original campaign (HotU).

Maybe you could fix this? THX

Hey BadMojo...I told you I would rate it, and here goes!
This is one bloody fantastic romp, with plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing and a very enjoyable storyline too. With NPCs that make it all the more fun (especially once you start the more adult variety of play) it is proof that you have made a module that is a serious campaign, with some very funny elements. My advice for anyone playing it, do NOT kill any female NPCs, unless you have no choice.
Great effort BM...and I look forward to the sequel!
Thanx for your efforts!
-----------------------------------------
Spoilers
1) I had a hard time at the end(? - see below) getting the Imp and Pandora to do their thing. The BotP and the Ring of Razzi were used, along with the relevant S-T, yet nothing happened, even when she was brought to the studio. It may be something I did wrong, I'm not sure. Maybe BM can tell me.
2) I did not find an actual ending (which is understandable if you do not approach the adult element) - simply nothing else to do once the studio was full of women and the encounter I previously mentioned didn't happen. It may be a related incident, though if not, then perhaps a 'movie' of the characters in the studio doing their thing in the relevant rooms to suit their character types would make a brilliant ending. If it is supposed to happen that way, but didn't because of the above-mentioned encounter, then DAMN!!

I'm not showing as registered because after all these months, I forgot my damn password and I'm still waiting for them to e-mail it to me. Oh well. This IS Bad Mojo, creator of the Chaos War Saga, and I'm here to explain the newest update.
I've updated it to HotU 6.1, naturally, but I also made a lot of changes to it. The biggest change is that now you can have up to 3 henchmen at a time, and raise them from the dead if they fall. I included the auto level scripts, but it's not working. If someone can show me how to fix it, I'll be grateful.
I also reworked some of the dungeon levels, making progress easier. I reduced the number of enemies in tough areas, and then made some areas a little tougher for balance. I've fixed some conversations that didn't work and nobody reported to me. :(
I've added new items, including more weapons and armor for various alignments and classes. I even added crafting materials, though you have to play a ways before finding the merchant. For those who have already played this module, it's Bosco.
I've also included a bunch of journal entries to keep track of things, but there really aren't that may side quests in this chapter.
Finally, I've added little clues to the descriptions of the special items you need to hold on to for the second chapter. These items may allow you to assume a unique role or "persona", giving you a different plotline and quests, adding to the replay value of the module. You can play the second chapter without the items from chapter one, but you'll miss out on a lot of stuff! At this rate, Chapter 2: Lost in the Hall of Worlds, will be out in a few months. Hopefully....

I've been downloading and playing modules since I first got the game over a year ago (now on SOU), but rarely commented on anything. I've changed my ways and feel credit should be given where credit is due, while also trying to give some kind of positive feedback.

I read through the comments about this game from other players and found them to be somewhat wanting and arcane. Criticism, I feel, should always be constructive, forthwright and illustrative. Especially given the fact that it takes such a massive amount of creativity, time, energy and determination to create good, well-balanced and entertaining modules, such as yours. Job well done and thank you for creating such a fine module.

I just downloaded the updated version and will play that through to see the differences. I'll offer further comments later. Done with respect, comments, opinion and criticism help drive us to the next level.

Looking forward to your further posts.

I have not played this module yet but I have looked it over in the toolset and it seems okay for the type of module that it is. Now I just need to get the 1.30 patch, my SoU will not be here for another three days...

Keep up the good work.

Posted by BadMojo ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-06-20 23:38:00
Thanks Andy. You pointed out some serious problems which I have since corrected. The Death and Dying rules are the same as the OC, as well as many other games, so I'm leaving it as is. Don't want to lose your henchman, then reload. That's the way it is...

Considering how I'm still learning scripting and this was my first module, I think I did a pretty decent job. There are a lot of modules out there that have much worse scripting and show it. Not every module designer is a master programmer though so don't berate me for not being one. It's also rather disappointing that you gave my module vague praise instead of precise examples like the numerous things "wrong" with it. It kinda makes me feel like the last 6-7 months of my life were wasted building this thing. If just one of the 399 people who downloaded this module thought it was mildly entertaining, then I feel like I've done my job...

At any rate, thanks for playing it. Sorry it didn't meet your standards.

Posted by Andy ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-06-20 18:55:00
Hi Badmojo. I played all the way through the module. Overall, I liked it. You have a good story, interesting characters, neat items. A few general comments.

Saying you're not a scripter doesn't cut it. Either learn how or find someone to help you. Modules need things like decent death rules, henchmen that work properly, and all those other minor things.

You obviously play evil characters that dual-wield. There were lots of items for evil characters. I sold at least a dozen evil only armors, and many other helmets, weapons, etc. Also, lots of dual weapons, and paired daggers. However, there was an extreme lack of good shields, relatively few decent one-handed weapons (long swords, etc), and not enough good aligned items. If I'm fighting the bad guys, chances are I'm not evil. Therefore, all the evil gear goes to waste.

I played the game solo most of the way. Henchmen kept dying on me, and once they died once, they reappeared, but were out of my group. When killed again, they stayed dead. After I lost a few this way, I stayed solo, until near the end, where I picked up the vampire lady. She regenerated, and managed to stay alive pretty well. I had to bail her out a few times, but she was able to handle a few hits without dying. Ended up at level 16, without doing several areas.

More specific comments, with spoilers.

Some levels of the dungeon didn't seem to flow, or never really completed. The cult (Talos Raza, or whatever). I never felt a sense of completion. I went through that portal, killed the evil bishop. Killed all the bugbears and goblins. I couldn't find a key for one of the inner rooms in one of the caves. I imagine answers were there, but I couldn't find the key.

The level with the evil temptresses. I never found the boss lady.

The abandoned mine. I never found out a way to do anything with the frozen dragon man. Would be cool to thaw him out, but he wouldn't be that different from the lizard man up on the surface.

I don't really understand what the mummy level was doing there. I killed most of the mummies, but they didn't really fit in the middle of all the dark generals and all.

You give all your harder enemies a stack or more of healing potions. I can't tell you how annoying this is. General Talok had at least 20. I just left the room. Came back 20 minutes later, and he was still alive. He couldn't damage my character, but every time he was Seriously injured, he would suck down a potion of healing. I'd say limit Potions of Heal to 2 per character. Find another way to make your enemies tough.

In Necropolis, the main guy won't talk to me. I could talk to the rebel (Bone-something), but I wanted to side with the other guy. I got no conversation option when I clicked on him.

The lady in Dos Terras who wants the flowers wouldn't accept them. This one desperately needs a journal entry. I collected a bunch of flowers, but she would never join me. Too bad.

The assassins in the main forest go hostile when you approach. However, they don't attack. If you attack one, that one will fight back, while the others stand and do nothing. They need to fight in concert, and they'll be a very tough encounter.

Sorry for running on so long. I really enjoyed the module, but I think it needs a fair amount of work before it can be considered final. Good luck with it.

Posted by BadMojo ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-06-20 12:27:00
I just updated this module to 1.30(SoU). I removed the hidden keys and reduced the amount of loot being dropped on the earlier levels. Since this new expansion has altered some rules a bit, I listed this module as a tenative Final Version. If someone finds a major problem with the update, let me know.

Posted by BadMojo ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-06-14 20:49:00
Thanks for the feedback Andy. I just want to remind you that I made it clear I was not a programmer, and that scripting is a new experience for me(I remember my BASIC, but all this C++ stuff is Greek to me. Yeah, I know...I'm old). That's why I used the default Death and Dying script. I myself tend to reload since most games require that anyway. As for non-looping npc conversations, it was a necessary evil...if I understood scripting better, I could fix it. The extra effort to click on an npc 2 or 3 times is minimal imho.

I also stated the game was RP light and didn't take itself too seriously, unlike so many other fantasy games out there(Fallout and Fallout 2 being good exceptions). Not every dialogue option is sarcastic, but there are a lot of contemporary references and a "been there, done that" attitude...

The balance of loot and gold is always a difficult thing. My Monk sold most of the items and had over 2 milion in gold. My little trap setting Rogue could never get enough gold for supplies. What I did was provide a lot of dropped loot for resale early in the game and reduced the amount greatly by about lvl 4 in the dungeon. I also made the best merchants(found later in the game) extremely expensive. Trust me, you'll be glad you have tons of gold when you spend about 4k for a potion of Shadow Shield;)

The Grunwald Quest isn't broken, I just forgot to remove the hidden keys I used for play testing. I didn't expect most people to explore every nook and cranny of the starting area when they had a whole dungeon to explore, so consider it an easter egg until I yank it.

When I created the Halfling guard that tells you to help repel the Dark Orc invasion, it was assumed that the player would at least investigate the disturbance before talking to her again. You caught me doing a scripting short cut :)

As for the Planeswalkers, they were meant to be cannon fodder during the "bar room brawl"...most of them anyway. Only the two named npcs drop loot if they die, and they have a good chance of survival if you trigger the encounter when you're ready...not prematurely with a spare key I left behind;)

Thanks again for your input Andy. I only ask you give it a little more time and keep in mind I created this module as a "scripting light" hack & slash with humorous overtones. If you're looking for an intense RP experience with advanced scripting(cut scenes, etc.), I'll be the first to admit you're playing the wrong module ;)

Posted by Andy ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-06-14 16:19:00
I downloaded this modules yesterday and started playing it. I like it. It has a lot to do, a lot of neat items, interesting characters, etc. However, it has some problems too.

There is no death penalty. You can just respawn in place. This takes a lot of challenge out of the game. I ended up in an area that I was woefully low level for. However, I was able to defeat the enemies just by respawning over and over. At least add an xp/gold loss, so I can't "cheat" that way (I just can't help myself...).

The dialogue trees continually dump out of the dialogue, instead of looping back to the menu. I would rather be able to return and ask about other things, instead of re-initiating dialogue every time I want to ask a question.

You've decided to make my character a sarcastic a-hole. That's okay, but it really cuts down on my ability to role-play. If you added a few more dialogue options (maybe a polite one), that would let me feel more like I'm playing a game, rather than just following a script.

There is an overwhelming amount of loot in the game. Every monster that I kill drops something. Much of this is saleable, for large amounts of gold. Gold quickly becomes a non-issue. However, there's more than I can carry, and no teleportation devices to pop me back to a merchant, so much lies on the ground. This slows down my game play, and also makes it hard to find the better loot amidst the piles of minor stuff.

SPOILER

Some quests and dialogues are broken or confusing. I found pipes in a shrub off in a corner of the map. They let me enter Grunwald's stump. I wandered around, killed a bunch of Dark Orcs, then returned to Grunwald. He talked like I had rescued someone named Zimm, and he had given me the pipes, and that is why/how I was chosen.

Also, the little halfling woman told me to hurry and kill the dark orcs the first time I talked to her. I immediately talked to her again, and she congratuled me on having killed the orcs, even though I hadn't killed them yet.

I let the orcs kill all the planewalkers and took their loot. I assume this is intended, since there's no way I could kill the orcs fast enough to save them.

Posted by BadMojo ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-06-14 08:43:00
A small warning about Death and Dying and henchmen. Since I'm not a big scripter, I use the default rules...which means a lot of reloads or respawns. If your henchman dies, you need to talk to him/her to get them to rejoin. The bug I encountered however, is spellcasting henchmen seem to lose their higher level spells from memory...even after resting. My only suggestion is to reload the game. If someone out there can show me how to fix it, I'll do just that.
