Class: There are no restrictions on class, but the story is more appropriate for a character who is "a bit of a thinker." It is recommended that you play a character with above average mental ability scores, averaging in the 12-14 range or higher. Spellcasting classes and skills are good choices, and you'll find that attribute bonuses in Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma will come in handy.
The module is designed for a good character, with little in the way of dialogue and plot options for evil roleplaying choices.

Module Description
Seven years ago, the throne of Carlissa was usurped and the kingdom overrun by the Warlord Zomoran, also known as the Black Magus. The story told by travelers and refugees has all been the same: that the Warlord somehow managed to summon an army of demons willing to serve him, and launched a surprise attack on the Carlissan capitol city of Lannamon. King Danor and the entire royal family were brutally slaughtered, and Zomoran took the throne for himself.
The Warlord is a merciless ruler who regularly sends his demons to crush any sign of rebellion -- or sometimes, to kill just for sport. Hidden in the deep woods in the southern part of the kingdom, your small community of foresters has so far been spared the ravages of the demon horde. All of that, however, is now about to change...
You begin the game as a young forest dweller with an unusual gift, living in a land that has been overrun by demons. When the monsters finally come to your home in the forest, you must try to learn how to use this strange ability of yours or die -- an ability which may turn out to be the only hope of salvation for the kingdom and its people.
This is Chapter 1 of the "Sanctum of the Archmage" module series. It is designed for single player only, starting a new, first level character, which should advance to level 8-9 by the end. It is continued in Chapter 2 ("The Miracle Worker, Act I"). Chapters 3 and 4 of the series are also planned for development in the Aurora engine used by Neverwinter Nights.
Romance: The module contains two nascent romance prospects, one male, and one that the player can choose to be either male or female. The romances progess slowly, and will not be fully developed by the end of the first module. The romances will develop further in the second and following chapters. The player can turn each of the romance plots on or off at his discretion.

I rebooted completely to refresh the Directx and so on,, restarted,, all fine now :) ps: Please PLEASE dont use NWN2 for ANYTHING, I think alot of people uninstalled it as it wasn't the greatest game,, Pretty,,, yes,,, and a fare few modders cant do half the things in NWN2 as they can in NWN. Also,, DA is a great game,, uninstalled now. NWN Never leaves my PC no matter how many times I rebuild. Backed up en mass then, reinstall then restore over it :D _________________________ Dalethfc

Dalethfc: the "white portrait" problem is a transient game engine bug that I've run across on occasion. If it doesn't disappear after you exit NWN completely and re-start, let me know and I'll try looking into it. _________________________ Sanctum of the Archmage Writing Projects Website and Blog Academy for Modding Excellence

Having played 3.4 and 4 there is a fair bit of difference,, I'd say,, for the better. I wont say spoilers here,, but,, if you have played 3.4 or lower,, Upgrade to the new version,, there is more to it. I liked both versions but will say I "Prefer" version 4. _________________________ Dalethfc

@ Andarian: I'd just finished going through my closet. It could have to do with the tileset; I'll try reproduce the silly bug a couple of times. Anyway, everything else is great. Thanks for all the hard work on this series so far! _________________________ 2 + 2 = 5 for sufficiently large values of 2

Runeweaver: Just to clarify: was the room you were nosing around when that happened the basement? If so, do you remember what part of the room you were in (near the door, or near the bed)? The only thing I can attribute that to is either a game engine bug or a micro-flaw in the NWNCQ tileset, allowing a walkmesh path between the two rooms (which do share an adjacent wall in the toolset). I'll take a closer look and see if I can figure out what might have happened, and if it's repeatable if there's something I might do to prevent it. _________________________ Sanctum of the Archmage Writing Projects Website and Blog Academy for Modding Excellence

At last, the long-awaited re-working. Played an earlier release (cannot even remember whe exactly ;), plus I've been following the posts on andarian.net. So yes, I'm pretty happy at the moment! Andarian, so far evrything looks great! However, I did run into a teensy glitch... * * * * * * (Spoilers) After the "three years have passed" scene I was nosing around the room when I was suddenly mysteriously transported to the scene with Robin Len's image. Having played an earlier release I knew something was amiss, and a quick reload resolved the issue just fine. However, those new to Sanctum may not notice anything amiss. (Un)fortunately, I haven't been able to reproduce the bus so far. _________________________ 2 + 2 = 5 for sufficiently large values of 2

I?ve just released an update for Sanctum of the Archmage, Chapter 1: The Sight to version 4.1 (see links at the top of the module description). The update fixes a handful of (mostly minor) issues in v4.0, and adds a couple of new features. Barring any unexpected major bugs, I expect this to be the final release of Sanctum 1. _________________________ Sanctum of the Archmage Writing Projects Website and Blog Academy for Modding Excellence

I?ve uploaded an updated patch hak (to version 4.0a) for the recent Sanctum v40 release. It fixes two bugs that I found, in completing the ?Beastmen in Exile? and ?Earthen Road? quests. The patch hak can be downloaded from my blog (see the "forums" link above -- the Vault won't let us post links in the comments any longer). I?m also working on a module update to version 4.1, which should be out by tomorrow. _________________________ Sanctum of the Archmage Writing Projects Website and Blog Academy for Modding Excellence
