You are a traveller from the southern part of the Doriel continent where you have spent your entire life up to this point. With your parents having died while you were still young you've spent most of your time since wandering between various settlements and taking work where it was available. In search of something more in your life you booked passage with a caravan heading north and taking only the heirloom pendant given to you by your father, set out in search of new adventures.
You end up in the small town of Fae'el, a settlement attached to the nearby excavation of ruins belonging to the legendary nation of Rhyvian. Fae'el has run up on hard times, although the caravan leader assures you that you'll be able to find work here. As you disembark the caravan you wonder what's in store for you, but even in your wildest dreams nothing could prepare you for the adventure ahead.
It won't let me put a link in the description, but I can put it in my sig. _________________________ Brian J. Audette Tales From the Rift World - Official Wiki Please don't forget to vote.

I just updated to version 1.02. This version fixes a problem whereby the player was able to destroy the cage door during the dream sequence and thus get stuck. PS. if you missed the Rift World wiki link (and my sad attempt to make it clickable) look below. _________________________ Brian J. You can just block Caravan out of your memory as it has nothing to do with this what A Line in the Sand has currently become. For that matter, City of Wonders doesn't have anything to do with it either. Allow me to explain... Between finishing City of Wonders and beginning A Line in the Sand I decided to restructure the history of the Rift World universe. Where before there were few events recorded before the Rift Crisis, now there are several thousand years worth of history leading up to the cataclysmic event. One of the biggest changes in this new timeline is that the fall of the nation of Rhyvian, which in CoW takes place after the Rift Crisis, now takes place several thousand years before. In the current continuity Rhyvian was the most powerful nation in the world during the time known as the Golden Age of Keldana. None could rival Rhyvian for the skill of it's inventors and Rift Shapers, but much like the Rhyvian in City of Wonders, this Rhyvian became a victim of it's own excess. We'll find out more about the Rhyvian of this current timeline in A Line in the Sand, but I just want people to keep in mind that while I still think of City of Wonders as a good introduction to the Rift World universe, nothing that takes place in the mod is to be considered canon or historical fact as pertains to the Tales From the Rift World continuity. _________________________ Brian J. Good to know your philosophy, BTW I like very much the idea of small professional modules, as for the NWS series by Sethai. Just one last question: what's the relationship between this one and caravan? It is suggested to play Caravan before this one? The quests in Caravan are integrated into this one? Or they are just two unrelated things and Caravan is your definetely drop project that I could just skip? :) Cheers! _________________________ The hottest new modules you can't miss - player suggested Contributor to Overlooked Module Reports An interview with me about NWN mods

The changes worked really well and made the combat challenging but fun. An excellent start to what should be a very entertaining series!

I've made an adjustment to the mod in order to make one of the alternatives to tricking the storeroom guard a little more obvious but for those of you who were wondering what your other options might be, read below. [SPOILER WARNING] . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . In addition to tricking the storeroom guard into leaving his post, there are two other ways to get at the Grand Artifact in the chest. The first is simply to sneak by the guard and this can be done either by using the sneak skill or being invisible. The trick here is to begin your sneak just outside of the room. If you begin sneaking inside the room with the guard and the chest, he's going to see you and still notice the chest being opening when you go to get the artifact. The second way to take care of this situation is to set a particular crate on fire. In the northwesternmost room of this area is a crate that upon examining appears to have been dampened. Speaking with the nearby worker will let you know that there have been fires in the past and when there are, everyone in the area is called to help put it out. In the southwesternmost room in the area you'll find a crate containing a bottle of lamp oil. Take the oil and go back to the crate. You will have the option to pour the oil onto the crate, thus soaking it in a flamable liquid. All you need now is a torch and if you don't already have one you can get one in the storeroom with the guard. While in conversation with the crate you will get the option to use the torch, do so and it will be set aflame. The nearby worker immediately calls for help and the other workers, including the storeroom guard, come to help. While he is out of the storeroom you are free to steal the artifact and by the time you have done this the fire will be put out and everyone will return to their posts. _________________________ Brian J. What are the other ways of getting the artifact? I'll give you a 10 as long as the guy you tricked doesn't get fired from his job because he's an innocent person. :) _________________________ Steve's Characters - please don't forget to vote on them if you play them. Thanks, Steve

There are actually two other ways to get that artifact Steve. Both of them are slightly underhanded, but then again you are stealing an artifact in the end anyway. As far as custom music goes. I did contact Christian Pacaud, the composer of City of Wonders' music about possibly doing some tracks for this mod, but I never got around to thinking about what I needed and was more concerned about just getting the mod done. Maybe we'll hear some more custom tracks in the next installment of A Line in the Sand. _________________________ Brian J. Didn't like how you had to trick an innocent worker to steal a statue, and I missed the amount of custom music that was in "City of Wonders." But other than that, perfect. _________________________ Steve's Characters - please don't forget to vote on them if you play them. Thanks, Steve
