An epic quest for the Lost Treasure of Kaldric the Foul on the remote island kingdom of Varota.
On the brink of civil war, a divided Royal Family vies with the noble dynasties of Bloodaxe and Valiant for control of the island, as the Temple of the Goddess Tanja seeks to purge witchcraft from the countryside. The emerging merchant houses of Bratik, Augustus and Lupin compete for influence through liasions with the nobility and the powerful city guilds.
As your ship docks, it seems that you will be drawn into this maelstrom. Yet at that very moment, another ship is ploughing its way through an unnatural storm to bear a far more sinister cargo to the island. Eldritch forces are unleashed, which threaten the very fabric of existence.
Are you the One Foretold, who will unlock the deadly secrets of the enigmatic Treasure?
ADULT CONTENT WARNING
If easily offended by explicit language, nudity, cartoon violence, fantasy magic or fictional religions, this is not for you. May you live in peace, and allow others to do likewise.
IMPORTANT - WHICH VERSION?
1.69 users are advised to download the latest version of the module and hakpaks.
THE VERSIONS ON THIS PAGE ARE OUT-OF-DATE AND UNSUPPORTED.
If you do decide to download these obsolete versions, be sure to download the right hakpak - Enigma2 for the 1.68 version 1.22, Enigma3 for the 1.69 version 1.23 (ACAG102 is required in both cases).
HORSE TUTORIAL
There is a tutorial and FAQ for horses at the 1.69 Riding Academy. Enigma Island assumes that you're familiar with that material, though it provides a simpler interface that you'll probable use most of the time.
COMPATIBILITY
It's advisable to move all custom content out of your override folder while playing Enigma Island.
There are known issues with "Necromancy 101" and "Tony K's Henchman AI". It's very likely that other custom extensions will cause problems, too.
I understand that the 1.69 version works with PRC, but this is not supported.
SERIES STATUS
Part 1 is a complete game in its own right.
Part 2 is a higher-level adventure based on the same scenario.
Deusuum - you can play either gender. There are minor plot variations for male and female, but they don't affect the outcome.

Should this module be played by a male or a female character?

Voting for an earlier version, (before 1.69), but I'm sure it still stands. Really cool mod, funny, lots of puzzles and well done.

mfour - SPOILER Sorry for delayed response, I've been away. If you didn't already find the solution, the clue is "maybe we need to find out more about this place". Try the back door or the cellar of Greystone Manor (there are two ways in).
Flippin hell.. there is Always someone having moan about a name or a meaning. It's a game,, a fantasy world,, if you dont like it dont play. macabroid is just like the PC muppets who sit there and watch a film, then moan that they were offended. Top mod,, the odd bug but still excellent. Post Card humour to :) Love it, Another thing that is rare because of the PC pillocks. _________________________ Dalethfc

I'm Russian, and honestly the name given to the templar goddess never bothered me at all. I always thought it was pronounced with a 'Norwegian' J rather than the Russian pronunciation. One thing, and one thing only bothered me in EI was the one-time deterrence from the witty tongue-in-cheek humour it has with those childish Master Baits and Seaman Stains gags at the start of the 2nd module. I liked EI because it combined hearty laughs (like the street performance and george bush reference) with a serious storyline and created a perfect blend between the two, and that one little thing made me wrinkle my nose... nitpickiness, but hey.

> goddamned BRITISH, if you please! Sorry, I should have guessed by the pythonesque flavor in your humor :) Unfortunately, wasn't able to find any info about your native country on the Web. > I'd be interested to know if other Russian speakers had the same reaction to the name Tanja. Yes, I understand. And surely no offence taken - I was just clarifing that liberal usage of other culure's names may often lead to unpredictable consequences. As for me, I'm quite liberal in my social and political views, so I suspect my reaction was the weakest of possible. But OK, I'll try to ask my friends about their possible reactions... > It doesn't have a very strong connotation in Britain. It might suggest a slightly pretentious girl to some In Russia, Tanja is not a name at all. All "Tanjas" are actually Tatjanas. And there's absolutely nothing pretentious about it: it's a diminutive, addressing to a respected person by the name of Tanja is commonly regarded as an almost offensive familiarity. > If I'm either sympathetic or hostile to Christianity, I'm stuck with it. Freedom comes when I move away, and it becomes less important. So, I don't want to write about it. That's just the point. You don't want to think or write about religion, and as a result the whole cult of Tanja looks somehow flat: it's just a decoration, they don't even look like actual believers. PS On the second thought, I don't see anything post-modern about the ending. It's just a set of artificially "invented" puzzles, that has nothing to do with the EI world, be it post-modern or not. Quite a pity, especially because King Asteron's tomb was a perfect example of a good puzzle, fun and seamlessly integrated into the Enigma Island world.
