This is a demo-type module. It's a 1/2 hour - 1 hour adventure detailing the beginning of TLS. Basically, treat it as a taste of what is to come from The Lynncairen Saga, which I hope to release eventually in its entirety. The download is about 70Mb, and it contains everything you'll need. Note that you'll have to play as a new level 1 character (male), and that you'll be forced to take the custom "Adventurer" class.

Premise:
The year is 854, and theres something in the air, an almost tangible sensation of anticipationa feeling of expectationthat momentous events are about to transpire. Rumors aboundbegun by sailors and pirates alikethat tell of an invading army intent on conquering all of Lynncair and enslaving its citizens that approaches from the North, by sea. These whispers have unnerved Lynncairs sovereign, King Alandor IV, to the point that he has begun preparing the Stormguard to defend their homeland. If the reports of the seafaring men have even the most miniscule grains of truth to them, Alandors actions certainly appear justifiedwar seems to loom, dark and threatening, on the horizon.
Along with these tidings of warperhaps coincidentallyis the fact that the 100th anniversary of the Arch-Enchanter Nabul Gyrazzis burial is rapidly approaching, and travelers from far and wide are flocking to Kranomyrr, the capital city of Lynncair; everyone wants to be present at the royal necropolis in case the Prophecy of Revelation, uttered by Iyanar Stargleam 100 years ago, had any truth to it...
Under normal circumstances, this exodus towards Kranomyrr wouldnt affect you in the slightest; your place has always been on the family farm, away from the matters of the rest of the world. But this time, things may be different; several months ago, a man arrived in your sleepy town and, to the surprise of all Brimsdales inhabitants, bought the old manor on Hawk's Hill that had been abandoned for years. The old mans name was Ibram, and he immediately became popular among the younger and older people of Brimsdale alike thanks to his fireside tales of battles from long ago, and stories of legendary heroes and villains. With the 100th anniversary of Gyrazzi's death just two weeks away, Ibram announced that he had received a private invitation from an old acquaintance to attend the service at the Archenchanter's tomb in the royal necropolis!
The possibility that Gyrazzis spirit might return on the 100th anniversary of the his burial to reveal the whereabouts of the legendary Shardstaff was bound to draw hoards to Kranomyrr to witness any events that might transpire, but Ibram assured the townspeople that he would be able to bypass the inevitable crowds, and was guaranteed to be right up next to the tomb if anything of interest came to pass.
This declaration worried most of the older folk, but obviously the younger, more adventurous of Brimsdales citizenssuch as yourselfwere intrigued by this announcement, and when Ibram added that he would be willing to let several people accompany him, you jumped at the opportunity.
And so, in the face of an impending invasion, you have packed your belongings and prepared to set off for Kranomyrr, to see if the words of a prophet now a century-dead were anything more than the ramblings of a madman...

I still love this module. It has such a great setup and cut scene, although I would have started it a little bit differently. Bit of a let down due to the sudden ending but still deserves a look. _________________________ _________________________

Thanks, glad you've enjoyed it. :) There are 3 sidequests; one involving a boy and his possum, one involving an old woman and her wedding band, and one involving the belfry of the Brimsdale chapel. ;) Regarding the mini-map, that was a tileset issue, not something of my own doing...but I'll look into rectifying the situation. Thanks again!

Hey Hugie,
Tried this demo, although I seem to
have missed any side quests and rushed
through the critical path :-)
I have to say the areas and ambient sounds are superb, which is important to me, as a player.
Also, this lot of new spells looks
absolutely awesome !
As well, the music is really pleasant
and fits really well with the rural areas (and yes, it ends abruptly :-).
I ran into a small problem:
- the Brimsdale map is totally white
for me. Bizarre, never saw that ...
To sum up, this is really fantastic work and I'm looking forward to this
module ! I'll give a miss to NWN2 and
might re-evaluate it end of next year
if/when the loads of problems (perf, Securom, GUI ...) are solved.
Thanks very much! I'm really glad it had the desired effect on you in terms of establishing a feeling of a tight-knit community and a truly inexperienced adventurer...I've always detested when low-level adventures expect a level 1 character to actually go fight armed and trained creatures that, realistically, would slaughter them. Also very glad you like the visuals. :)
@Lariam:
I'm glad the reception has been relatively positive too. :) Just wait 'til you see the plot I have planned for the NWN2 one...I'm SO excited! The one word to describe it is "epic", I would say. :)
@SpecialK:
Glad you're enjoying it so far; the music is a result of my being a videogame writer/designer, not a music adept. ;) I can usually hold my own in "Audacity" (sound/music editor), but the limit of my abilities is slicing up tracks and sometimes combining them...anything more complicated than that (ie smoothing starts and ends) is beyond my reach. ;)
I'm glad to see that you're still getting respectable download figures (and nice votes!) for an NWN1 demo module, Hugie, but I must admit that I'm *especially* glad to see that you're planning to build FR stuff for NWN2. :D

Scratch that, tried again and it was fine.
This is, if anything, prettier than the Island (which was gorgeous in its own right).
I like that you've gone for the feel of a person starting with very little experience under their belt, in their very provincial, yet tight-knit, way, going out to explore this world that is clearly extremely well fleshed-out.
I am thrilled to hear you're continuing with TLS! (and that you're leaning towards NWN1, as some of us don't have the cash for a new system to play 2...)

I'm really excited to try this, but I have not been able to successfully DL it yet. I've tried a few times over the past couple days and each time it stops at a certain point (this time it happened to be 16%--11.5 MB. It's usually at 16-20%.
Heheh, thanks Lord of Worms--without your work, this mod would be a LOT less pretty, and I fully intend to keep using it throughout the series (which I am, indeed, continuing). So yeah, thanks again for your hard work! I'm honored to be the first mod that uses it. :) _________________________ Alex "Hugie" Hugon

WoW! Not only did you totally hook me with the amazing start-up cutscene, the amazing custom vfx and the engaging storyline, imagine my delight at strolling around in my hometown of Brimsdale!!! (unfortunately I don't play on PW's so this is the absolute first time I have seen my tileset in any action other than what I have done myself-and you have done a wonderful job at that!) I especially liked the gorge!
please, please continue this work as my friends and I are totally hooked now.
(also,if you don't continue this work, I am going to remodel all of Seasonal Forest trees to resemble candy canes, all the buildings to gingerbread houses, and all terrain textures to be plain white and rename the set 'Santas Workshop'- so there!)
And Hugie, I'm happy to hear TLS hasn't been entirely abandoned. :) I'm still playing NWN1 as we speak, so doing it for that system would be fine with me.
Thanks Slygar; yeah, I'm not sure whether or not it'll be 1 or 2. I'm leaning towards sticking with 1 for TLS and working exclusively on mods in the FR's for NWN2...we'll see. :) _________________________ Alex "Hugie" Hugon

This seems really neat. I hope you do finish it, preferable for NWN2, though you dont seem too interested in that. But 1 or 2, i'll play it regardless :)
Treat this as a real "Taste of Lynncair", not just as an example of what has been abandoned. I've officially decided to continue working on TLS, so this is truly a demo now.
I'm actually starting to get the feeling that my lack of interest in completing the project for NWN1 was a one day whim. I'm back in the toolset, feeling really fickle, but plugging farther into the story as we speak... o_0 I really wish I could make up my mind once in awhile! ;)
In any event, This serves as a nice preview regardless. I'll change the description to say that it hasn't been abandoned, since I..urm..apparently haven't abandoned it. ;)
I'll post in my blog with some more info on The Star Mounts tonight, perhaps.
I'm a little sad to hear that this module series has been postponed, but I'm glad it hasn't been abandoned. :) I'll likely download this when I finish the mod I'm in right now.
That new FR module looks cool...although I don't agree that bards stink! Is there more information about it?
Oh, regarding the minimap, that's a tileset bug...and one that I never got the chance to experience, believe it or not, since I never used the map. :/ Similarly, the lag is just because the tileset is like *really* system-intensive.
I'm glad you're enjoying the game though. :) Who knows, maybe I *will* go back and add more to it...I'm fickle that way. ;) _________________________ Alex "Hugie" Hugon

Gah--that didn't happen for me! Err, well, it did, but I fixed it! Try starting that conversation with Tomas again; he should stand up somewhere in the convo. Once he's standing in the convo, he'll walk with you no problem. :) _________________________ Alex "Hugie" Hugon

I haven't finished it yet, but the small part I have played is totally spectacular. The first cutscene is most likely best-made I've ever seen. The tileset for the town is perfect, and the music blows me away. =)
THOUGH! I'm posting so early because I've come to a game-stopping bug..
When I first met Tom, we had the conversation to go to Ibram, and the cutscene started with me walking without Tom, him still sitting at his original posistion. The conversation with Ibram starts as if Tom is with me, but in fact he is not. After it gets toabout the 4th dialog box, where it says that we've dressed correctly, the conversation just stops, and I tried going back to Tom, and he just said that "We must get to the camp before dark." I tried talking to Ibram again, but he said the same thing. I have no clue what to do..
Also, the town's minimap is completly white, and I get strange lag when I scroll out in the town.
OTher than that, this is a superb module, and I NEED to see the full version, or I might succumb to madness. =)

My Entries.. check em' out! =)
Thanks sed. While I won't be supporting this entry, I'm still interested to hear what people think, and how the complete module might have been received. :) _________________________ Alex "Hugie" Hugon
