Guns N Eyestalks is a D20 Modern conversion of Eye of the Beholder.
Update 4/12/07: Includes improvements to automatic fire, weapon reloading, and XP granting.
This dimension-hopping adventure lets people try a single-player adventure using all the custom classes and items of D20 Modern.
TO PLAY, YOU WILL NEED THE EOB HAK, located at:
Link You will also need the D20 Modern 1.0 Class and Item Haks, and the tlk, located at:
Link You only need mdrn2_class, and mdrn2_items, and mdrn2_tlk from there.
Important: When creating new characters, you must create them locally, not on a server.
Also, you must use the following technique exactly:
Load NWN, select New -> Other Modules -> choose Modern Base -> select Use Premade Character
(do not select New Character from the first menu) -> then, select New Character button below the
Show Pregenerated Characters checkbox.
If you don't do this, the game will crash, so be sure to do it as described.
You can then save your character (Export Character) and provide your .bic file (from nwn\localvault)
to your server host. To run a Server Vault game, you'll have to have players send you their character
(.bic) files that they made locally and put them in your nwn\servervault under their player name.
The original module is by the Eye of the Beholder Team:
Rick Francis
Mika Uusnäkki
Wim Haeck
James Ryuujin Robinson
Erik "Wolfsong" Lindqvist
Mark Rumsey
Anthony Marinakis
Robert Patrick
Robert Carrol
Greg Ditzler
The conversion is by the D20 Modern Team, and provides a simple example of what a standard module converted to the Modern rules would be like.
You are a traveller from another world. Your company of military contractors was contacted recently by some sort of individual calling himself a 'wizard.' This Khelban Blackstaff claimed he could transport you to another dimension - to a world called Faerun. Given the abundance of gold and other valuables that Khelban claims are there for the taking, your company took a job from Khelban - to send an agent, or even a group of agents, to this other dimension and help them with some trouble they're having. It's strange, but the 'wizard' insisted on INEXPERIENCED team members - something about 'heroes in the making.' Khelban gave you a Dimensional Access Transducer to provide some contact with your home - it will let you get equipment from your company, in exchange for treasure found on the other world. Unfortunately, Khelban warned you that in opening a dimensional rift, he's pretty he'll drag a lot of items from your own world into the hands of the enemies you'll face...
Ok, got the module working. The trick was that you couldnt use the "Empty" base 20 modern module. I used the other one and character creation went just fine.
I am having a bit of a problem now though. After talking to the king and picking up some gear from the nebin guy, I went down into the sewers. The way I went into the sewers is now blocked. I Dropped the rock into the "evil" divine pool, and retreived the ancient rock. I then went to the door that required the ancient rock, fought the doom knights, and when on up to the previous level. Blackstaff was waiting there for me. I explained that I couldnt "unseal" an area and he did the unsealing for me. I went into that room with the 2 weird "graves". The graves that have some combination of letters on them. The door that I am assuming leads outside is locked.
please help? I saved at this location then started wandering around the levels and trying to find something I mightve missed. I didnt find any other important looking items, and Honestly I got lost and hadda reload from the area I saved standing by the 2 graves and the locked door.
Ok, downloaded all the hacks and the tlk required for both this and the " base modern" module.
I open the base modern module to create a new character. I use the pregenerated character option. I then use the create new character option below the show pregenerated character check box. In the character generation menus I come to the "Select Class" button, but I dont see any of the modern classes listed-just the same old Fighter, barbarian, rogue classes. Am I supposed to see new classes listed? I took the chance and selected first fighter and then rogue classes and created characters, but as soon as I finish creating the character it popped me back to the select a character menu. And when I select the character I just made for the modern base module, the play button is still greyed out (as in cant play the module).
What am I doing wrong. I dont think it's because I dont have the correct haks because the module fully loads without the Missing Haks error.
I have the mdm20_eob.hak, but couldn't run the game. So I tried to open it in the toolset to see what was missing and it said I needed the following hak: "eobpak" Any idea where that could be?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Forest Wolf,

Steve - Interesting about that - did the crossbow look like a crossbow, or a gun? If it looked like a gun, I think it's easy to explain as the local people CALLING a gun that was sucked through the dimensional portal a 'crossbow' - but you needing 'real' ammo to shoot.
If it looked like a crossbow, not so easy to explain away :)
In general, the module isn't intended to be foolproof from an immersion standpoint - just a quick-and-dirty conversion of a great module to Modern. The fact that all the merchants will call guns 'bows' and 'crossbows' is one of many inconsistencies that will likely crop up, and need to be explained away with more than a fair bit of imagination.
For the record, the 'out of ammo' notice is likely due to the reloading script, which checks for regular ammo and tries to delete it when used. You'll need to use 'Firearms Ammunition' from your Modern Dimensional Store rather than local ammo, I'd guess.

Still some weapon bugs; I found a crossbow and bolts, but I was always out of ammo. _________________________ Steve's Characters - please don't forget to vote on them if you play them.
Guns N Eyestalks doesn't have the modern heads or clothes - just the items and classes. If you need support on the heads or clothes for D20 Modern, feel free to contact us on the D20 Modern 1.0 pages or the forums - thanks!
First of all, great job on the D20 conversion. I'm just having a bit of trouble getting the modern head, clothing, etc. to work right. What am I doing wrong?!
