Custom setting, similar to the Forgotten Realms in terms of fantasy creatures, magic and otherworldly locations.
Gameplay Length
Gameplay length varies greatly depending on various factors. How many sidequests you complete, how quickly your class gets through the enemy resistance, etc. Could be far over 30 hours, but could also be slightly less.

Classes
Since Crimson Nights is heavily combat oriented, Fighters and Barbarians do good. It is definitely possible with spellcaster classes too, since summons have been slightly improved to even out things. Could proove slightly more difficult in some places for spellcasters, though. Bards and Rogues are NOT recommended.

Description
Crimson Nights is the first chapter in an epic adventure where the hero, a promising young adventurer, gets thrown into an epic quest to save the world from a new enemy previously considered completely harmless. An ancient evil awakens - and it's out for vengeance. It is up to you to save humanity and vanquish the greatest foe you will ever face...
"About a week ago a letter was sent to your house in Feinas, your home town, by an anonymous person. It said that there is a man in the small village of Monsu who is very ill. A horrible, unknown cancer resides within his heart, and the one who sent the letter asked for your help to cure the man. You cannot, however, understand why this person wants YOUR help, you are but a simple adventurer. But since you are always looking for a great heroic quest, why should you decline this offer? It is a great deed saving an ill man from the cold clutches of death. Thus, you answer the call for help, and a week later you arrive in the small, quiet village of Monsu..."

I guess the little-bit-of-everything adventure intentional. You make lots of good points and ideas, perhaps I'll sit down and make a new version of the module soon. _________________________ Crimson Nights Chapter 1: Link

I've just finished the module and here's what I think :) : *Spoilers* The intro movie showing the chicken was a surprise! You see, I wasn't sure what to expect but the module captured my interest early on. But if someone asked me to identify it, I wouldn't know what to say. It was a little bit of everything: humorous/parody with an epic seriousness and some horror elements along the way. I don't know what was your intention but for me it wasn't clear all of the time. The town was small but I liked it. It had what was really necessary for this module. Although, I missed a little more interaction with the npcs. I would have liked to get to know them better, that goes especially for the henchman. Also, I couldn't find the house easily. Maybe a map pin after Anna gave it to me, would had been nice. I also liked the fact that I could make potions, items and ride a horse :). A tiny problem when I was resting though, after every rest I was losing the increased movement that the horse was giving to me. Also, I know that the herbs are needed for brewing potions but it would had been better if we could sell them. Although I was really enjoying making potions , towards the end I grew a bit tired and I had collected a lot of ingredients but I couldn't sell them to the shops. I stored them in my house. I really liked all the customized items and the various monsters. Combat was challenging but sometimes difficult. My char was a fighter so I can only imagine what it would be like for a spellcaster, although you specify that it would be easier with a combat oriented class. Boosting your character is really important in this module. I had a little difficulty getting out of the temple after I placed the explosives. I died 2 or 3 times before I managed to escape. A speed potion helped me a lot there. In the quest with the werewolf and the werebear, after I killed one of the two, the quest was completed although I didn't kill both of them. I still had to kill the werebear. As for the quest to get the help from a flying creature, I did it and the help came but the quest itself, stayed unfinished. Also, in battle, my henchwoman was sometimes just standing there, doing nothing, although I commanded her several times to attack. *End Spoilers* Overall, although confused as to what was really your intention, I liked it. I had a good time :). I will definitely play chapter 2.

Thank you! Not quite sure yetabout the name, but as of now it's named "Evil Unleashed". It is still uncertain whether I'll keep that name in the finished module or change it to something else. We shall see once it's released =D _________________________ Crimson Nights Chapter 1: Link

Good Module ^^ any idea what chapter 2 is going to be called?

Hehehehe... why, actually, did you know the author of Echoes is my brother? Anyway, to answer your question, I made sure that every little arrow/dart I fired counted. I utilized extreme tactics to win the battles with less hp loss. I also picked skillpoints in hide and move silently to sneak past the heap of enemies in the Scarecrow fields. Even so, I think I killed every enemy in the module except around 4. Basically, I used every bit of my gaming skills to conquer the module and amaze my brother =D (P.S - I didn't think it was THAT impossible, just very challenging, and at times I had to load more than once in a single battle.) _________________________ Crimson Nights Chapter 1: Link

The comment was meant for another mod which leads me onto how did you complete this Echoes with a 1st lvl barb?
Posted by ericdoman at on09/08/07
Whoops sorry about that see original comment.

No I did not like it. Somehow my previous comment has been erased and I did not vote 9.25. This is a ridiculously hard module to the point of I would not play this. Facing various very difficult to impossible creatures was not my cup of tea at low levels. I believe this is my lowest vote ever, even though I hadn't finished mod and I am normally quite generous but due to tampering not amused.

I'm glad you liked it. Chapter 2 is currently under construction (although I'm atm stuck on a cutscene =D) I'll be sure to complete it ASAP. Thanks alot! _________________________ Crimson Nights Chapter 1: Link

Again this is predominantly HnS and my rating would have been higher if there was more interaction between player and NPCs especially the henchperson. Boss combats are tough but that can be expected. Not sure if spellcasters (sorc, wiz, bard, druid) will do OK. Many areas allow you to rest but final confrontations are very hard. The first adventure is VG and different Started as a 1st lvl fighter, then realised element protection is very important so finished as a 2/9 ftr/clr about 4000xp short of next level. The henchperson does not level up (3ftr/3assassin but strange feats)and her AI is not very good but you can swap weapons around in combat and she uses them. Minor spoilers, before you head up north pay for stables and use horse, although when you rest the horses movement decreases. Save often Purchase various elemental and magic protection. There are a lot of customized magical items in this game and some new creature models as well as known creatures but with different attacks etc. As I did not have UMD skill not sure if rogue or bard could use scrolls with no die roll as I intend to give it a try with a rg/druid/ftr combo Ko Bo also replied very quickly this is a huge plus for me
