Disclaimer
Vis et Virtus is not a normal Neverwinter Nights module, nor is it intended to be. It is, by design, a mostly linear adventure with a heavy emphasis on story and character development. It was designed to be a fusion of game genres combining elements from traditional Japanese console RPG games like Final Fantasy, with computer RPGs like NWN, along with devices that are unique to VeV.
If you are looking for a game that uses a non-linear approach with lots of dialogue options through which you can create a character of your choosing, featuring standard NWN systems, I encourage you to look elsewhere. There are plenty of excellent games out there that do an excellent job of this. I would also encourage you to look elsewhere if you don't have the time to allow the story and characters to develop. Like a great novel, the story gets better as it goes, and many questions remain unanswered until later in the series. In the beginning, you will not know the full history of each of the characters nor have a full understanding of their motivations, but over the course of the game these elements will become apparent. Finally, in order to add to the depth of the characters, Vis et Virtus uses pregenerated characters. If you are uninterested in games involving pregenerated characters, please do not waste your time downloading VeV.
If, on the other hand, you are looking for a game with a truly epic story, strategic battles, engaging party members, unique systems and stunning custom content that make you feel like you're playing an entirely different game, you will enjoy Vis et Virtus.
If you are still uncertain as to whether Vis et Virtus is the sort of gaming experience you like, I encourage you to read our reviews. QSW and the Vault Review Team have written excellent, detailed reviews of the last three chapters of VeV which will likely give you a good idea of what to expect. You can find them at Link, Link, and Link.

I released an update to the prologue and chapters 1-6 today. Chapters 7 and 8 will be updated in the coming weeks.
I've dubbed this particular version the "Almost Final Version" because we are honing in on a Final Version. Andrew and I will be doing one last test run this summer and updating accordingly before officially labeling VeV Final.
These final updates are almost exclusively polish, subtle details and bug fixes. The only update I would like to point out is that we have added an On / Off switch to the boss cutscenes we added in version 4. That way, if you prefer not to watch those scenes, you can turn them off via a Macro Command. Further information is included in the in game Journal.
We have also remade our Vis et Virtus Website from scratch and moved it over to wordpress. We are still working on the finishing touches on this as well, but all the important information should be accessible there. You can find it at the link above.
Since the website has had a lot of downtime lately due to the server, I've decided to use a different host. The new Vis et Virtus website can be found at the link above.
Friends, due to being in the process of opening a business and my test player being busy in his final year of college, I'm going to take a different approach with the release than I have in the past with 4.0. I'd like to ask those of you on the vault to please help me find bugs with the new version, so I'm releasing the beta. I have, of course, done a good deal of testing myself, but I'd love to get your input on the new version.
Chapter 6 will be up in the next week or two, but chapters 7 and 8 are quite a bit further off. Fortunately, version 4.0 is 99% backwards compatible with version 3.0, so you should be able to finish playing through even if I haven't finished releasing the later 4.0 chapters.
Feel free to email me directly if you happen to find any bugs. I check my email far more frequently than I do this site. My email address is: [email protected]
Thanks,
Jim

I don't want to sound bitter, but seriously this is a massive waste of time. You can read my comments on chapters 1 and 2. _________________________ Do dance with the rogues.

I got burned out on the LONG dungeon crawl. But otherwise similar pros/cons with earlier entries. Big largely empty areas, long walks. Reuse of city element. The good things are the few interesting characters. Company of the Claw, Father Todd, Van.

I'm guessing you're in the Order of the Veiled Sky. What floor of what tower are you in? There are a number of teleporters in that quest.

Okay I past that, but I'm on a teleporting floor which seems to have no solution. _________________________ Steve's Characters - please don't forget to vote on them if you play them.

Ch 3 of Vis et Virtus is the best yet. The story/writing continues to be unbelievable. Ch 3 was extremely funny. There were half a dozen company of the claw scenes, all priceless. Combined with Van, Father Todd, and Whuhah, I was laughing my ass off almost every cutscene. In addition to the humor, the story continues to deliver. Ch 3 also introduced another 100+ custom items in the shops. The game is very addicting, always wanting to know what happens next. The gameplay also supports this addictive nature. As for cons, I can't think of any. It is a great game, simple as that.
Next question...I'm at the 6th floor of Ephiram's tower and the door to the 7th floor requires a specific key. Does this involve manipulating the consoles in the room next to where all the knights are? If so, something is wrong because nothing in the room is an active object. Or is it something else that I'm missing? I killed all the knights but haven't found any kind of key.....
To find the Royal Vaults, go to the South Eastern District of Verthorn. There's a Lucky's Charms store there that sells them. It's located on the Eastern part of the map against the wall. They may also be located elsewhere, but that's the location that comes to mind.
I finally killed off Carthbad and I'm now ready to tackle Ephiram's tower. Where might the repeatedly-mentioned "Royal Vaults"? I've looked all over Verthorn but can't find where to buy them at.
Thanks,
Mel

Still extremely funny and charming. I found the balance of the fights to be particularly well made. Van Eisen is great! _________________________ One feels inclined to say that the idea that man should be "happy" is not included in the plan of "creation". - Sigmund Freud

This time, I went through the towers quite fast. So I could more enjoy the scenes with Van Eisen. Changes are still great, matching my 'wish list' from the first playthrough quite well. _________________________ One feels inclined to say that the idea that man should be "happy" is not included in the plan of "creation". - Sigmund Freud

That's fine with me. As I said, I found it rather fitting. Thanks for clarifying. _________________________ One feels inclined to say that the idea that man should be "happy" is not included in the plan of "creation". - Sigmund Freud
*** MAJOR SPOILERS CONCERNING THE END OF THE GAME! ***
The only aspect of the ending that isn't fixed is the fate of the Company of the Claw and the variety of ways in which Northhaven can be handled I'm afraid. Van Eisen's ending is not only fitting with his character, but was left rather ominous in case we ever wanted to do a sequel.

MASSIVE SPOILERS
Soo... I don't suppose there is a way to prevent Whuhas' fall from grace, and Van Eisen reverting to his ways later on? I normally wouldn't expect something like this, but as the ending is somewhat variable, I'd like to know.
I don't even think that having these possibilities would be a good thing, as Van Eisen made perfect sense... it's just that when a game is variable, I try to get the perfect "good" run at least the second time. So, for my consciousness' sake, did I cause those two events by mistake or are they "hardwired"?

Regarding Carthbad: yes, having Father Todd go after him and keep downing him works really well. He wasn't able to get a single spell off in the fight I just had.
Also, you can insta-kill one of his goons right away with the monk's killing hand ability (don't remember the ability's name right now). _________________________ One feels inclined to say that the idea that man should be "happy" is not included in the plan of "creation". - Sigmund Freud
I can see it's a well written, even if completely linear story so I'll refrain from voting, for now at least, because the crazy difficulty curve of the combat may bias me into giving an undeservedly low mark. Everything was proceeding smoothly, even too smoothly until I reached Van Eisen. I chose to side with him, who may be, as I found out after siding with him, completely immune to physical damage but his 32 HP at lvl 16 make him very vulnerable to enemy spell casters. Which at least half of the latter enemies are. If I didn't side with him, how was I supposed to kill him? If I remember correctly, there were gloves with elemental damage in a store in a previous module, but they were too expensive..Also, carthbad using power word kill punishes anyone who didn't buy lathar's last belt, since at 190ish max HP it's easy to drop below 150 and 27 spell res doesn't help against serious spells like this..

This series is the reason to reinstall NWN on your computer.
Version 3.0 of VeV Chapter 3 has just been uploaded. An update to Andrew's Tips and the new screenshots will be posted in the next few days. Sorry for the long wait on this chapter. I suspect Chapter 4 Version 3.0 will be ready fairly soon though.

Improvement over the previous two chapters; still way too much time spent running around, but the story is cool and the cut scenes are still very entertaining. Van Eisen is just great.
Having taken a look at chapter 3, there isn't a stopcutscene script, so disregard my prior suggestion. Instead, dm_runscript rustynailsc2. If Todd isn't in your party after that, dm_runscript addtodd.
