Description
The classic tale of Jack and the Beanstalk.
There's Jack's Mom.. Milky White the cow, the Strange Man with the beans.. the castle in the clouds.. and, of course, the Giant and the beanstalk.
It's a fun diversion for an adult.. but it's specially made to help introduce kids to NWN. If your kid can't read, someone will have to read some things to them.. though I have some dialogue spoken.
It works great with a kid on your lap.. my 5-year-old clicks and plays while I encourage him and read things.
If you do play with a kid, place the difficulty slider on EASY and then you can't die.. If adults want a version where you can die.. well.. put the difficulty slider on Very Difficult and play badly.. or just let me know that there is interest in an adult version.
You should also put the Violence Slider on LOW. That should get rid of any blood splatters.

Oh! You get turned into Jack when you enter the mod... but I do turn you back when you quit.
1. download the zipped hak.
2. unzip it and place in in your hak file (in you NWN directory)

Fixed it so Jack's Mom can't be attacked if Difficulty Slider is on EASY.
YAY!! Dave I finally got on here and voted! I played JABS with my 8 year old daughter. After she got over the initially fright of the giant she was good to go! The character we loaded was a wizard, HA! So Jack could use the axe at the end. LOL! That was funny. We had to topple the you know what with some well placed lightning spells. My daughter enjoyed the fishing as well. Thanks giving us an excuse for spending a couple of hours playing somethign together! I too had moral issues with Jack stealing.. (my boy is only 5!).. but I naively thought I knew the Jack story.. If I'd seen/read the other versions I would have put some more back story in!! .. a matter of fact.. I think I will do just that when I get a chance. I'm very pleased you did not take my comments as a negative, and even more pleased that you will (when time permits!) add in a bit of dialogue to explain away Jacks actions. Thanks for being so considerate about my worries :) The harp.. silly error on my part.. I took out a variable check that would get you to the proper conversation so the harp would be at your beck and call.. it'll play any song in the normal 2da.. cycling on at a time asking you if you like this one.. or if you'd like to try another.. I took out the check to debug.. and I forgot to put it back in!! oops... thanks for finding the "bug".. Oooh, I shall have to play again when the harp is fixed, I know I and my daughter will enjoy listening to it playing various tunes. Nice touch! Thanks too for understanding why I didn't put the journal in.. oh.. and sorry for the lousy sound quality.. I thought I fixed it.. I may have put the wrong files in the hak.. I uploaded the whole thing in a hurry to switch myself over to the new computer (and NWN2).. not a good excuse, eh. A new computer is always a good excuse *grins* lucky you! I'm thrilled by the review. I do plan more of these types of mods.. I actually have one in the works for NWN2.. but I may do it for NWN1 as a DMed adventure.. Dave - I have not played the module with my son yet, but we will. Seeing your module inspired me to contact the vault, and Maximus created a kid-friendly category, so if you want to take advantage of that, you can. Also, other than Missing Dragon I don't know of any others out there, so maybe players of this module can help us find and reclassify others. First off. this was really cute. The fishing was very nifty! Why couldn't Jack provide some fish for dinner? haha ok just teasing. It ran very smoothly and If my little one was old enough. Hey Dave I'm having some issues. One) The journal keeps having errors instead of entries. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be doing. I've wandered around the giants castle for a bit. But not sure what to do there either. I went fishing for a while. "nice touch btw" that was nifty! Any ideas?
