-.25: module didn't distinguish sexes... my female was addressed as a him when the captain gave permission for me to enter the mines

-.25: The grotto was not accessible. I had to teleport myself there.

An average vintage module with a specific flavor.

Gameplay/Fun: 4
The background story is unique with some celtic flavor. There was a lot of fedex-ing and backtracking involved. Many areas did require a lot of fight-run-rest repeat and rinse.
Most puzzles were interesting. One of them was a nightmare. I did figure out what the key was but not how to use it. Had to look for the answer here. Now one may want to turn the volume up and listen to the "clues". Also all the "things" can only be used once. The key did not work for me until I tried the "+".

The end was kind of a disaster. While I was trying to move my large character without getting stuck I could not see some enemies ahead who opened fire (literally). This can be a real nightmare for solo player because you can be defeated before you can get close enough to melee and in most case you have to liitle firepower to return fire and take the enemies down effectively.
Later on my character got stuck in the "last" room without specific items and that was the end of it.

Action: 4
Not so good. The combats were too difficult early on for a lvl 1 or 2. Also, after a while one may get tired of crushing the same type of creatures (mainly three types) over and over. Last part is impossible to win if you do not proceed in a specific order (this one require some running around in areas/rooms packed with junk).

Visuals/Sounds : 8
For a vintage module, a lot of attention was put into the sounds. A bit less perhaps for the visuals as the author only used the generic tiles.

Roleplaying/Replayability: N/A
Things must be done in a well defined order to win.
No real roleplaying opportunities.
There little incentives here to replay this module.

I am interested in the Celtic aspect of the module (I liked the screen capture). Still, I don't see what lvl 1 can do this. A new char with a stong familiar/compagnon may be. Possibly a melee type in full plate tower shield and a sharp weapon although a new character will not have such equipment. This is going to be a tough game if they are no XPs for the quests.

* Spoilers *
Seen a bear that almost killed my char right away. Later found a bunch goblins w poisons arrows. The only way to survive this is to run. Altough that bunch could be defeated by one or two sleep spells...

Well, I liked this one! Only problem is that at the beginning, things are a little slow, and it takes a while before getting immersed in the story. But if you go on and give the module a chance, it becomes interesting! Not to mention it is a challenging module for a level 1 character, which I liked!

My only real complain is that at times, you have to wait a certain time for some events to happen. Since resting doesn't advance time, you have to wait a couple of minutes, and it can get boring.

Stupid me, I left Cathal's Grotto without realizing that I hadn't checked everything, went all the way to Columcille with the book, returned to town, and found Cathal's door locked. Again. With the key *inside* the house, where I'd dropped it when I thought I didn't need it anymore. Nasty bug, that.

Hi,
I've just played most of the module and now seem to be stuck. I'm playing a Ranger (4th level) and have the last vital items.

I can't figure out what to do next. The Journal speaks of completing the ritual, but I can't leave Cathal's Sanctuary. If I just equip the cloak and take on Cathal, I'm wiped out without touching him. The Tall Brothers and Cathal's Treachery quests remain unsolved. In addition, I still have the Quake quest listed as unsolved. Any suggestions?

Cheers,
Dave Fritz
