You have downloaded Farcrown Arena, an amazing-multiplayer-PvP-Capture-the-Flag-persistent-balanced-excellent-arena-
module :D
There are two teams: Shining Knights (color themed blue and gold) and Darklion (red and black), but the names and colors don't mean anything- alignment or class doesn't matter regarding your placement in a team. The game places incoming players into the team that has less players (or random if the teams are equal). The two teams of Farcrown Arena fight in places called "arenas"- places of epic legend and mighty combat. Currently there are 23 arenas, though you can make more!
The overall goal is to capture the enemy team's flag and bring it back to your base (or sometimes other places). This gives your team 15 points as well as giving you 10 Emeralds and 10 Tally. Emeralds are gems that can be traded for gold or XP, wherever you choose to spend your Emeralds (via Treasure Chests and XP Chests, which can be found at Haleos Isle, your base, as well as shops & guilds in Fardenfall, the city). Tally is less meaningful than Emeralds, it's more of a personal record of the total number of Emeralds you have been awarded.
Killing players of the other team can win you Team Points, Emeralds and Tally as well. The amount of good stuff you get depends on the relation between you and the other player's levels. You can actually lose Emeralds if the other player is too many levels lower than you (an item can be used to scout non-attackable players nearby). The amount of Team Points won by killing is only 1 if the person's level is close to you, 0 otherwise. However you can get 2 Team Points for your team regardless of the victim's level if they are carrying the flag- then they are free game for everyone.
Dying doesn't cost a thing- your body just lays there for about 10 seconds, then you have the option of typing in the destination that you'd like to go- "base", "haleos" or "fardenfall" (the city). There are some other options too, if you belong to certain guilds (most guilds are reachable from Fardenfall- the Thieves Guild is one of the hardest to get into, as you have to choose the right dialog options from the Thief that appears and tries to pickpocket you sometimes in the Creep Inn). Once you pick a destination, you are teleported there alive and well. If you don't enter your destination in time, your chance is up and you have to wait for resurrection (or the end of the round)! Dun dun dun!
If you are holding the flag and you die, the flag is dropped where you died and auto-returns itself after a while, or instantly returns itself if a player from its team clicks it. But before that happens, another player can pick up the flag and continue the quest of the player that died.
There are lots of other features (we have everything covered: pickpocketing restrictions, disarm giveback, a special trap system, magic & spells, potions, guilds, weapon imbuing, temples, monestaries, items for all classes, betting games, flagless arenas, HiPS restrictor, noob stores, noob help, help signs, temporary uberinvisibility upon arena arrival, lots of items and armor, and more), but you'll find out as you play/DM/host, I think you get the gist of it :D If you have any technical questions about the rules or game mechanics, just ask
Oh yeah, players start with 10,000 XP (level 5), and with 17,500 gp. If you are hosting the module and want to change any of these, check out lines 108 and 110 of the script "entergame".
There are many possible "exploits" and "loopholes" we thought of- obvious ones such as taking the flag out of the area, as well as complicated, tiny, random possible ones that nobody would think of- and we went through great lengths to prevent them and make none of these loopholes possible while at the same time not affecting the fun gameplay in any way. But if we missed any loopholes, or if your players have discovered a new exploit or something, put a helpful comment here on the Vault page and I'll see what I can do.
Tips for DMs:
Do not drop armor, helmets, flags or cloaks on the ground or give them to players- this is very very very important, and if a player gets any of these items not the normal way, it could potentially upset the balance of the game severely. Just so you know.
Also there a couple DM widgets and items that are given you to you when you enter the game. There's a DM-only area, too.
Another thing: in the conversation for the Farcrown News Sign (I think I called it "sign"), route 10 is Server Rules- these are rules we made if we were hosting it ourselves, which we aren't anymore, so you can feel free to change them if you want to, though most of the rules are what we see as generally good server rules for Farcrown Arena :D
Warning:
This is a warning if you start messing with scripts- many of the scripts I write are sort of interconnected and depend on each other. It's not my fault if you start messing around with scripts and f*** things up on the module, lol :D But if you are interested in editing a property of the game, tell me and I can definitely help you out!
Please:
* give credit to us, the creators of Farcrown Arena! We spent a lot of hard work on this! If you find any bugs or anything, please don't be a d*** about it, but I'm glad to help you out or answer any questions you might have. For example, don't edit the entry message where it says that this is Farcrown Arena and it is created by Thaladar9 and Dark Enma, etc. And don't change the name of the game (the name is written a lot in convos and scripts and stuff, so that'd be kinda hard, but still!)
* if you host Farcrown Arena, stress to your players to HAVE FUN! That's what games are for :D Though it comes down to you, being your server, I would recommend having rules such as no griefing and no revenge kills and stuff like that. Make sure it's fun for everyone!
* if you want to learn how to make your own arenas or allow players to send in arenas, download the Tutorial that's also on this Vault page!!!
* questions/comments/suggestions -> don't hesitate to ask!
* and please remember to vote!
* oh and tell me if you're hosting it and I'll check out your sever! :D
This is the info file, all about Farcrown Arena and its awesomeness! I copied it into the online description, but in case it was too big for that, or if you want a text-file version, here it is! :D
The 1.69 version of the module, named differently so you can get to know it and transfer arenas you've made and make sure it works, etc, before making it your normal "Farcrown Arena" file. REQUIRES 1.69
WARNING: this crashes when it gets to a certain point on my Mac. However it works fine on my friend's Mac. I still don't know what the problem is or if it will work for you, but if it doesn't, the other "Farcrown Arena.mod" download works 100% on all versions
This is the tutorial that will teach you how to make your own arenas, every step of the way! It's easy and fun and rewarding to watch players battle it out on your creation ;D
Note: If you don't download this and try to make your own arena without it, or skip the important steps, it could really mess up the module, because there are a couple important features an arena area needs to have :D
That would be an extensive amount of work for small demand, sorry. While the tilesets Tropical & Sea Caves were previously just CEP, they should work without CEP now after the advent of 1.69. After that, the only CEP content that would need removing (if you really didn't want CEP) would be item icons, basically :D _________________________ Check out Farcrown Arena, a full awesome Capture-the-Flag arena module for download! we decided to let other people host the servers ;D so let me know if anyone does, or sets up a private little one (I know a few people that already have) and I can play too :D hehe _________________________ Check out Farcrown Arena, a full awesome Capture-the-Flag arena module for download! alright, 1.69 stuff up :D _________________________ Check out Farcrown Arena, a full awesome Capture-the-Flag arena module for download! Host it and watch the forces collide! :D Link
the limit was set to prevent uberbuffing :P the 3-buff-limit is a good number for a variety of strategical buffs, which have to be chosen carefully, as opposed to just loading buff after buff on yourself and allies, which makes arena modules unfair- you see a lot of that kind of balance upset happening on other arena servers- Farcrown Arena does not have such a problem :) however, if you want to change the buff limit (I would recommend leaving it in place, but you could just make it higher by whatever amount pleases you) then open up the script called "spell_hook_x" and look at lines 126, 129 and 131. The number in line 126 is 2 (1 less than 3) while the numbers in lines 129 & 131 are both 3. So if you change the limit to, say, 5 buffs per rest, then change the number in line 126 to 4 and the other two to 5
thanks for the vote :D and I'm uploading 1.69 version right now, though leaving up the other version (which works 100% with 1.69 too, it's just the new version has some changes) _________________________ Check out Farcrown Arena, a full awesome Capture-the-Flag arena module for download! This is a great module! i have just 1 question: i see that there is the limit of 3 buffs,is there a way to put it off? why did you set that limit? tnx very much and sorry for bad english!
alright, it appears to be working fine on Dark Enma's comp (he has a PC) but not on mine (I have a Mac). If someone posts here telling me to I will upload it anyway, otherwise I will try to see what the problem is with my comp _________________________ Check out Farcrown Arena, a full awesome Capture-the-Flag arena module for download! the 1.69 version is done, we've added a 24th arena and started a 25th arena (but decided to let the user finish it if they want). If you've already made a 24th and 25th but still want the update (for reasons I will write in a sec) the updated tutorial will show how to make that not a problem (it's very simple).
The 1.69 update makes use of the new PCChat event, getting rid of the 'Team Chat' item and instead it listens ALL the time. For example, if you typed in "/c Cover me" the text "Cover me" would appear to your teammates only in your chosen teamchatcolor, and the text isn't displayed above your head, so that members of the opposite team can't read it. Also, the various Team Chat text commands are usable all the time now, just type em in, such as "//destroy armor" or "//green" or "//export" or "//loc"
however... when I load up the module, it crashes ;D hehe in the morning I'll see what's wrong and fix it :D I'll get the 1.69 updated to you guys as fast as I can _________________________ Check out Farcrown Arena, a full awesome Capture-the-Flag arena module for download! Very well done. If I may, I'd like to add some areas to a levelup mod I built for private use between me and some friends. Thalandar, can I ask you some questions re: slight script modifications?
if you download it and try it out, make sure to leave a comment saying what you think :D _________________________ Check out Farcrown Arena, a full awesome Capture-the-Flag arena module for download! Host it and watch the forces collide! :D Link
