Description
Madman at the Ruins!
by Kelkesh12345

Madman at the Ruins is an atmospheric module for NWN, CEP 2, D20. The game follows your character, a new member of Ped's Personal Detectives, on a search for a group of teens who went into the nearby restricted ruins. The search takes a startling twist when the murders begin...

Gameplay: A focus on exploration makes up this game. As a detective, when you examine corpses and clues, you will receive your thoughts on them i.e. How they died, how long ago, thoughts as to the murderer. With the murderer close enough he could breathe on your neck, you must run and try to stop the many evil men in this new dark nightmere. Oh, and did I mention this game takes full advantage of D20 Modern?

This game is very short, but is just a part of the Madman series, which will come out next with Madman in the Packing Plant!, which involves terror inside Mayberry Packing Plant.

Free Hint: The TAB key on your keyboard highlights all useable objects in the area, you can use this if your having trouble finding enemies or clues.

Kelkesh, I posted a news story about this over on the D20 page, hopefully it'll drive some traffic over here to check out your mod. Good luck with it.

That sounds pretty wise. Be sure to enjoy those games, since they really are extremely awesome (talking about HL2).

I wish ya luck with building and I hope you'll enjoy the games! I'll be looking forward to your return. :)

Right now, things are a bit, constrained, I would say. I am still working on it, but a couple things keep jumping up and making me do something else.
1) Work, 2)School, 3) Just got Half Life 2 Episode 1 and 2, 4) More Work, 5)Family Issues, 6) SMOD Outbreak, a mod for HL2, has addicted me, and yeah... I am still working on the new Madman, but it is going to take longer. I want to make sure its very improved since at the Ruins!, its fun to play, but on the tech side not that sophisticated. I'd like to pump everything up, you know!

Hey Kelkesh man, how things going on the moddin'-front? Hope everything goes well. I know at least I and Archon are looking forward to your next work. :) But I think a lot of others will be interested as well. :)

Hmmm.
What bug? Something to do with Vista?

Writing? Addicting? I know EXACTLY what you mean. I once stayed up to 4AM writing a story.
You have any previous work? Where might I read it? :)

Or not... So, Ive been doing two things 1) Running into a very annoying bug.
and 2) Damn writing for being so addicting. I am really thinking about writing a story to accompany Madman at the Ruins!, as its fairly linear, and just bleeds untapped atmosphere.

Okay, I have added the screenies, and by the way, I won't run from Alma, I'LL GO AND GIVE HER HUGS! Well, I won't if she makes a fiery maelstorm of hell erupt around her. Then I'll run and scream and hide!
And I really do wanna know why all henchmen hit on you. Is there like a henchman convention every year, where the henchmen all learn how to increase the ego of their master by flirting with them? Is there a spell that uses ego as its main power!? OH GOD THE RANT OF DOOM! Anyways, work is keeping alone at a steady pace, working on the new Madman now.

Heh, I see Archon has been having fun with the censor-system. :D And yeah, if anyone even catches a glimpse of Alma ... RUN LIKE HELL!!! :O

Kelkesh man, you should really add some screenshots for the mod! That'll increase the download number with about 9000!! Well ... erm ... at least it'll increase by 100. :D

BTW, I submitted the Madman site-ad back at the front page and I hope it'll appear there shortly (perhaps in a couple of days). :)

Keep on moddin'!

Well, obviously I didn't say Bitch, since that doesn't get cesored. I said *bleep*. heheh. Ok, I just wrote that bleep. I meant prostitute. Companions that keep on hitting on me aren't really fun.

Alma!? WHERE!??? *runs away screaming like a little girl*

Yeah, the Haxeman! he HACKS people to death, muhahaha. Snort. Wise guy.

Oh, and *bleep* *bleep* *bleep*... hehehe. Ah, it ain't fun anymore.

I guess the Vault does have censorship. Well *bleep*! And, did you mean not make Alyx a Bitch (Female Dog), or prostitute? I meant Alyx-ish as in a companion through some of the game.
Oh, and I wasnt being defensive about the cheap scare, I meant in my defense because I jumped at NWN. I made it through FEAR and didnt twitch. (Okay, thats a lie. Alma scares the crap out of me).
Also, the Haxeman? Anyways, yeah, I was trying to get your character killed. Call me evil, but I did say it was funny. Funny to me! *Insert Evil Laughter Here*

Yeah, I did open the fourth door. AND I DIDN'T DIE. AHAHAHHA!
Ok, so I did. blech. Should have put a spoiler sign there. Then again, those really aren't spoilers, are they? And, that might make someone actually NOT open the door. We don't want that, now do we? Heh.
No need for defense about the cheap scare. I said I likes it.
I wouldn't count on an Alyx here, really. I mean, Alyx is, well, Alyx. Created by the gods of Valve. And most of her personality emanates from the special animations and Merle Dandrige's acting.
However, someone a bit different... hmm... As I said before, it would be awesome. Just don't make her*bleep*-ish, mind you.
Uh, I went straight for the door. The Haxeman just attacked me. Is that what's supposed to happen?

An Alyx-style person in NWN? Hmm... Cool.
Yeah, I should probably add a spoiler warning on the Museum, I had planned on putting that at the end of the game.
Yeah, the music delay is pretty stupid, I should fix it.

*SPOILERS OVER*

Thanks for the 9.25 man! Now to decide on my next work!

Archon:

*MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS*

Okay, the axeman's helmet, the bazooka weapon was intended as a joke weapon, and its fun as hell blowing the crap out of the axeman with a rocket launcher helmet! :D
That 4th door, just open it. OPEN IT AND DIE! There are about 10 god enemies in the room, and if you open it you die. No buts. The reason for it? Tempting people into killing themselves!
That ammo thing was actually a glitch I have been running into, so maybe its just Vista. Ive had weirder glitches with Vista.
As for the 'moon lander', thats a story for another time.
For the cheap scare tactic, it actually was put in because of a funny accident. One time when I testing the mod, somehow an encounter spawn had messed up and spawned a Tortured behind the door. I go and open the door, and jump off my chair in surprise when a hand comes rushing out of the darkness to kill my character. In my defense, I had the fog WAY up at this point.
The Iron Maiden was a creepy looking model. I had a script that was supposed to make him talk to you, I know how to fix it now, so I may have to update this.
The hurt man in the corridor was un-edited from the original, except for now if you wait near his body, you can hear his cries of pain.
Also, if you want a funny surprise, when you enter the Axeman's chamber, walk for the exit door. Its pretty funny.
Now if only I could get a first person camera for NWN, this would be scarier. Think opening the jump door in first person. EEK!

*SPOILERS DONE*

Thanks for the 9 Archon! Now time to decide what my next project will be.

Ok. Took me long enough to get to playing. Sorry. Lately, I've felt like doing DSG (10 episodes right now) and nothing else.

So, yeah - definetly better than the original one, but I expected that (I'd be an idiot not to). The plot is thicker, more full, there are personalities around, the journal entries were pretty cool, and the music was good.
And it made a pretty great, strong atmoshpere. Very cool.

¨°º¤øq¸¸pø¤º°¨SPOILERS¨°º¤øq¸¸pø¤º°¨

Hmm. The pre-game area was interesting, but it kinda took off the feel of reality about the module. Really liked the music though.
I kept the axeman key from the previous module (I ran thru it again before playing this one), and the god items were kinda suprising. Rockets out of eye sockets? Wow. The axeman was an airhead, huh? :P I decided not to use any of the items, but brought them along anyway.
I didn't understand the purpose of the fourth door, really. Just messing with us, knowing we'll just HAVE to open that door? Do explain.
The museum was pretty cool. I love it when people make stuff like that. And having a companion would have been an awesome thing for conveying info on the surroundings.
You mentioned that I should drop all my firearms\ammo, 'cuz they wouldn't work. They worked just fine for me. Or was that a sort of a difficulty regulation?
I really liked the spiffy detective outfit. Both versions.
I found it strange that you left the Peds PD the same size. Just a few cuts would have made it a lot more of a realistic place. I liked the fact that most of the characters were a lot more talkative. Still could do some more work on it though. I always wondered - what's a moon lander doing in a PD office?
The entrance to the ruins was pretty cool, though some ruins (walls, boulders) on the outside would have been awesome. The one liners are more or less great from here (not that there was any earlier :P)
The first description was... odd. The killer removed the casings? those things fly all around the place, and are often completely lost, so... y'know.
I have to say that the descriptions were much, much better, and I really liked most of them (it seems you took my advice, right?). Some of them weren't changed, but what the hey.
The useage of ambient noises, and the shoot/scream/fall/agony combo was very stunning. And the lightning managed to be gloomy and dark, but not TOO much. Great balance there.
That Many Tortured right behind the door was just a cheap-ass screamer scare! But it WAS effective. A good idea. Me likes it, you sneaky bastard.
I also really liked how the Many Tortured can't open the doors. The scene was - I open the door, and in the room - three Many Tortured. "Sorry, wrong appartment" and shut the door. Then run away screaming like a little girl. eh...
I have to admit - the Iron Maiden - he spooked the $#IT out of me! That is one *bleep*ed up model right there. ugh. ack. blech.
The sudden shootout with the Jailer (Jailor?) was a very cool part too. Walk into a dark corridor, and ZING, a bullet flies right by your head. What a welcome.
The dying man at the end of the corridor was a bit odd, since he could say only one thing, and you can't really bring him the bad news, and all that. Considered a dialog here?
The axeman was awesome - all because of my portrait :P. Ah, should have made the background darker. Meh.
But seriously, he was pretty awesome, and you did some nice writting tricks there. He really felt unstable. And the fight was made harder by his sudden proximity to you, right at the start.
I also really liked the journal entries with the criminal backgrounds - those were pretty cool, and really helped define them. The odd way Iron Maiden got his name speaks great of the urban myths and similar. Great.
I didn't get the last part - the hell thingy. But, the creature sounds over there were very awesome.

¨°º¤øq¸¸pø¤º°¨SPOILERS¨°º¤øq¸¸pø¤º°¨

I did all of this with a level 1 "tough" character. There was only one nasty fight, but I got around it too (obviously).
So, yeah - definetly a much higher rating, but it could still go with some extra polish.
Cool stuff right here! :D Recomend to everyone. Well almost. Not for the feint of heart, heh.

Hey man, just completed your remastered version and I have to say, you've improved quite a bit. :)

**SPOILERS**

I liked that you had added some more background conversations (the intro with Pedd, Axeman conversation) and the journal entries. Also liked the new additional adversary, the Iron Maiden. I do think you could add some more character to the various minior character though, like Lucy, for example. And the idea you had to have her as a side-kick is not a bad one. ;) Could turn out a little like Alyx does to Gordon Freeman in Half life 2.

The atmoshpere and music was stunning this time around. I ain't kiddin'. :D You actually made me pretty creeped out even though I have already played it. That takes a lot, mind you. :) The new music was very fitting and I liked when the first monster popped out of one of the doors. :) Totally unexpected.

A tip when it comes to the music: you should edit the music delay. It can be changed at the place where you change music for an area, at the bottom of this screen in the box called "Music, Playing Delay". It's default setting is to wait c:a 90 seconds before a music piece plays again. This is pretty stupid if you ask me, since it'll create 90 second of complete silence where it'd be better to have music in the background. Just change the "90" to "0".

I liked that you had added a couple of bonus areas like the Museum and the Axeman room. But a tip is that you should place a warning sign outside the room (at least the museum) that it contains some spoilers. At least that's what I think you should do since if players haven't finished the original, they'd be pretty surprised and puzzled to see the Axeman there, since they haven't even met him yet. :D

**SPOILERS END**

I think this is a masterful remastered version of the original Madman mod. It could still need some polish here and there but I think it deserves a 9.00 but you know what? I'll go with a 9.25, just because you managed to create such an intense atmoshpere that managed to even scare a player that already finished the orignal. ;)

Well done and keep on moddin'! :) This one goes into my favorites as well. ;)
