A single player adventure for starting level 1 characters. One main story line with a number of side plots; most of the side plots do help with the main story, however. Completing everything should take the character to a finishing level of 7 or 8.
This is Part One of a two-module adventure; with Part Two being The Amergilus Legacy.
Version v1.2 (05 May 09) solves issues that have been raised here by various players. Also in this version a teleporter device has been introduced so that the player can avoid the backtracking necessary in earlier versions. Fuller details are given in the attached module notes.
Version v1.3c (01 June 09) solves issues raised here by various players. In addition, the henchmen conversations have been expanded, the closing dialogues have been changed to reflect that the adventure will continune in a second module, and nereng's HenchmanSetTrap system has been introduced (ref: Neverwinter Vault/ NWN Scripts/ HenchmanSetTraps, by nereng, 05-04-2006). Fuller details are given in the attached module notes.
Version v1.31c (22 July 2009) corrects a couple of typos and a small scripting error, but no changes that will affect gameplay.
Version v1.32c (02 Feb 2010) corrects some minor typos and incorporates some small changes suggested here by various players; but no changes that affect gameplay.
Version v1.33c (28 Feb 2010) incorporates a small modification to a conversation file to prevent the player becoming blocked with the main plot through skipping part of a particular NPC's conversation.
06 May 2010 - The adventure in Murder in Mireford continues in a second module, The Amergilus Legacy.
Version v1.34c (07 June 2010) incorporates some small changes to prevent the player from becoming stuck with the main plot by doing things out of sequence. Also a number of typos have been corrected in this version (thanks to Hans Olsen's NWN Spellchecker).
Version v1.35c (18 August 2010)
Update to prevent players from keeping Roman Goodman in the party towards the end of the adventure by walking away during his leaving conversation. A few other small enhancements have also been added in this update.

Top notch module here, Bardil, I really thoroughly enjoyed both parts. I went a different direction than I usually do, character-wise, for this one, and I'm very glad I did. My gnome bard/dragon disciple Fiddler McGavelray really became one of my favorite characters because of the module you put together, a great story, never too complicated or obscure, very well-balanced. And the loot... heh, oh yes. The loot. Thanks so much for sharing this with the public, you do some incredibly fine work and I'd look forward to seeing anything else you might conjure up in the future!

Okay, I seemed to play this series backwards. This one I liked due to the different creatures and environments. _________________________ Steve's Characters - please don't forget to vote on them if you play them. Thanks, Steve

-.25: horses- NPC wouldn't get on due to having a "tail" -.25: horses- too depressing to see them die when you fought their riders. -1.00: helmet scripting- had to remove and put it on every time to use an obelisk... pain in the butt- made the game last longer than normal. -1.00: fatal error: if the fire elemental fights in the middle of dialogue, the dialogue for him to restart in order to recreate the gate is not available again. A module with solid storyline, but needs polish. _________________________ Steve's Characters - please don't forget to vote on them if you play them. Thanks, Steve

I'm stuck in the obelisk air plane. What do I do? _________________________ Steve's Characters - please don't forget to vote on them if you play them. Thanks, Steve

Muric -- Many thanks for the vote and the comments. They are all useful, even at this stage, as I am now working on a NWN2 campaign. -- Bardil

hmm.. it was interesting to read about zach being able to upgrade certain pieces of equipment. makes me wish I hadn't sold everything that I had found(due to whatever else I had equipped at the time being better then what I had picked up). didn't think anything of it, just sold it, lol, oh well; lesson learned. in any case, this was a fun module held my interest the whole way through(which can be pretty hard to do). the abrupt ending to certain conversations with the henchmen, sort of left me with the feeling like I was supposed to have it elsewhere, or there was more there that didn't fire. I do have one regret in playing through the module the way I did...I should have started off with my female wizard at level 4, realistically. there was many fights I felt like I was totally unprepared for. though...I did ignore expertise(which would have helped a bit) in favor for the spell penetration feats and combat casting, which is very unlike me. That said, I'm inclined to believe the difficulty of certain fights I endured were my own fault. just a good thing that respawning is free ;) I'd recommend the fighting classes, over the arcane spell caster for the module though. I kept thinking to myself the whole way through: "I should have been a monk!". Eventually I did indeed pick up monk levels...in the second module. wish I had done so in the first, some of these fights in the second are pretty hard. All in all though, my play through Murder in Mireford, was bug free(I think), though things did sorta slow down quite a bit toward the end there. so well done! I'll definitely be playing again. I've not yet finished the second module, I've just gotten to the elemental plane of air, but so far so good. _________________________ jml's list of community addons/overrides, etc. Link

Hi Blatob, Thanks for the comments and the vote. Others have commented on the supply of loot; some think it's too much and some think it's just right. All depends on play style, I guess. Glad you enjoyed it, especially exploring the island dungeon in just your underpants. :-) Bardil
