7th in the series. This one deals with the creation of a new creature for NWN. It's primarily a video showing how to create a new humanoid creature that will use the standard animations and the steps necessary to get the creature to show up in the toolset. Running time is 25 minutes, file size is 34 megs, res is 800x600. The file is an exe for ease of use. If you do not trust exe's simply rename the file to a .zip and extract manually. You may have to install the Camtasia tcc codec if you do.
Hi,
I'm using NwMax but when ever i try to export it says the SanityCheck failed and when i view the model in the viewer the parts i replaced don't move and some of them don't even show up. If I could get help that would be great.
thanks

If you using NwnMax .05 with patches, you need to select all and use reset xforms under nwn utilities before exporting. Hope this helps some Gmax users.

Hmmm... I have the same problem as Brytersward here (maybe even worse), but I think I know whats wrong. I'm a GMax user. I think I do all you tell me to do in the tutorial, but the nodes do not show up. Is this the reason my boxmen look like hideous mutants and they do not move or carry the weapons I give them? Is this a GMax problem, or..? How do I solve this problem?

Very good tutorials here, as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words (or less nowadays, damn inflation).
I completed this tutorial successfully, and got the model to work perfectly.
There is 1 niggling thing however. I loaded up my test module, killed the 3 boxman in the single room, and quit to main menu. No problem there.
The problem is when you try to start the module up AGAIN, it freezes about 2/3's through the load process. I can repeat the problem consistantly.
Anyone else have this happen?
I am using 1.29 patch. I made the models with 3ds Max 5.

Danmar,
You are the man. You have given to this community more
then just about anyone on here. With these videos there
should be enough content hittings these boards to make our
haeds spin. but it just seems that more people would rather
ask someone else to do it then try it for themselves. I
cant blame them. It can be hectic at times working on
seomthing that is just giving you a fit. I know that
feeling very well. Like my Osquip, I am ready to pull my
hair out over it. 6 Legged creatures are a real b#*ch.

Editible meshes... now he tells me :). I had a little bit
more success the second time except that its lets were up
aound his ears :). I'll try the mesh thing and see what
happens. Thanks Danmar

Heh, Brtersward. I bet that was pretty funny.
A couple of things, make sure you've moved your pivot
points to where they need to be to match the locations for
the template creature.
Make sure you convert the boxes to editable meshes.
Other than that I don't know, it might be a issue with GMax
but I've not had any problems like that.
Trojan Cloud:
Yes they can be done, there's a tutorial on this site
somewhere showing how to do it.
Tiles are a little more involved, you have to edit the tile
set files and itp files I believe. I'll look into what
that entails and see if I can get a tutorial in under half
a hour in length.
Velmar:
I hadn't planned it. Animations are a _lot_ of work.
Especially for GMax which doesn't have things like Biped
which facilliates humanoid animation tremendously.
But let me see what I can come up with.

(laughing my arse off here) :)
I went through the tutorial, but i must have done something
wrong (or its just a gmax thing :) ) -- my boxman looks
like a work by picasso (all the parts are there but he
doesn't look good at all :) - hands up in the air, arms
through his body.... I'm going to try again though :),
because it was fun to do anyway :). Thanks Danmar? (off to
try again)

Danmar,
I have gone through each of your tutorials and found them
to be very helpful. Your work is very much appreciated.
I was interested in creating some placable terrain, such as
hills with smooth slopes and other things. Can this be
done? Would it provide enough content for another tutorial?
TIA, TC

Are you planning to get deeper into animations, Danmar ?
I think of creating custom animations using all those
"secret" :-) dummies, IK and so on.
That would be very interesting, because I don`t
know much about it and most times I tried, my models
got messed up.
I got to say your tutorials are VERY useful to me
and solved more that one problem I had.
I am more the "read over watch"-type, but the idea
of videos is great because you can get a lot of
info in just one picture faster than having to write
down every mouseclick.
Thank you for your work.

Ummm 2 through 6 are done with GMax. :) Only 1 and 7 are
Studio max.
It is truly the same between the two with the exeption of
the export process. In GMax you have to copy and paste the
text from the Listener to a text file and have to export
each type separately.

Post comments good and bad here, good ones mean others will
download, bad ones will save others from wasting their time.
BUT if you have questions or comments you wish to get to me
personally then send them in an email. I'm not that good
about checking back on these things with any regularity.
Maybe once or twice in the first couple of days after i
post them and that's about it.
