UPDATE: 13/11/05 Walkmesh is done! Added a new movie and 3 new pictures. (credit to CEP for the CEP brownie used)
UPDATE: 27/10/05 Added 4 new pictures. Tile seams are fixed, thanks to GaiaWerewolf whom I should have listened to in the first place. Next job, walkmesh...
Preview of output from a java terrain generator. The application is designed to produce "world map" (as in Final Fantasy 7) areas for use in modules/PW. It directly output the model files based on a fractal terrain map and textures appropriately. Still early development, but looking very promising.
This is a movie of a sample area as seen in the toolset. Low-res & a higher resolution file is avaliable as well as several stills of the same area.
looking good.. the grass is too pastel.. I think dark green would be alot nicer

This looks great. After this comes out there will be a bunch of new modules and maybe gameworlds using this. What needs to be done after this is making buildings tiny and tress and other stuff to add to the world and make it come alive. Imagine a tower at the peak of a mountain and a dragon flying in cricles above it? And best of all you seeing it. This will rock.
This one seems so incredibly difficult to pull off, and to finalize with a higher resolution, a good walkmesh and no seams (I don't care much about shadows on a worldmap personally).
Please don't let me discourage you though : if there is a way, I am certain that you'd be among the ones to find it :)

Primo had inspired me earlier to start working some more on a worldmap feature for a campaign I've been DMing for some time now, and let me just say that there's definately potential for a worldmap feature in NWN.
For now, I've been using the rural tileset and some help of tilemagic and placeables to create a general worldmap. Using scripting to turn the players invisible upon entering the worldmap area, and using a brownie creature from the CEP to indicate the current location of the party(honestly, compared with the rest of the placeables, and the fact that you can customise it, makes for the perfect party marker), the general result seems to be that it works just fine to illustrate how far the party's wandering. Now, if I would have an actual worldmap tileset, using this utility, I can definately see this as an excellent way to enhance a campaign.
Looking forward to it, Primogenitor. Bloody excellent work from what I've seen so far.

Dirgesinger: At the moment, nothing is walkable. However, the plan is to make it all walkable soon in the future. Note that such walkablity will, initially at least, ignore such constraits as cliffs or the ocean.
Hmmm... I'm curious as to how the walkmesh intreracts with this... is all of the terrain in the example pictures walkable? _________________________ Aspiring author; NWN builder and DM.

Some thouts about it:
-the shadows don't work... (as this is a world map the eseast way too fix it could by turning them off).
-the textures have seams... could by becose Your output may by maped that a texture is a litle smaler then the output (a 10x10 m square I supose and a 999,9x999,9 cm texture).
- textures are very fuzy...
- edges... how do You deal with eadges? This may by a problem for interrior world maps, but I gyues You know that.
That looks insanely awesome, get out asap I really want to play with it! _________________________ Eagles may soar but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.
