Theres no doubt than Im an odd person to be putting this together. And no doubt something like this is coming a little late in the game, so to speak. Yet, that is exactly why I compiled this information. Im learning (finally) to script without the help of tools and finding concise and consolidated information was near impossible. It was scattered all over the bioboards and while that is a great resource in and of itself the information is scattered and can be a bit hard to pin down. What Ive tried to do with this document is to collect all the important information a beginner or expert scripter may need. Ive plundered tutorials and sticky posts for relevant information, inserted some standards into appearance, spell checks, and organized it. It is important to note that none of this work is mine. This is like the CEP of Scripting information, I just compiled it. Now, no doubt I missed important information. If so, point it out. Also, some of this information is old and not being proficient myself I have no way of knowing what may be out of date or trumped by later patches. If you find something like this, let me know and Ill fix it. As for the late in the game well, its never to late to learn. A great deal of the basics of NWScript will no doubt still be useful for NWN2 and I will attempt to keep this up to date when it comes out.
Id like to thank all the people who took the time to write out this information, the people who helped me go through this, and just the NWN Community and Bioware for the help and support over the years in all my various endeavors.

I literally spent all afternoon today jumping all over the web, looking up, downloading, and bookmarking tutorials, guides, and FAQs. I wish I had seen this first, as it has most of the stuff I've been looking at all in one place. Thank you for putting this together!

Scripting has been on my list of things to learn for a long time now. I have had to do with cut & pasting. Thank you for the effort put into this. It will come in handy!

Great work. Nice to have most info in one place. It was a good refresher course for me and I learned a few new tricks along the way.

Anything else to add in helping with scripting is always appreciated by yours truly. Good stuff.

BioGeorg here, didn't have password ready, but whatever
Some updates for you
- The part about script caching is obsolete in 1.65 now, the server is pretty much caching everything frequently used on it's own now, at least if you have more than 64 megs of memory
- Using Get2DAString in loops does not have bad performance implications in 1.65+ as the server will pretty much keep any 2da in memory, unless you really screwed up all your INI settings. As a result you lose the ability to change 2das at runtime as they will likely stay cached forever until reboot

I actually considered combining the PDF version of the NWlexicon with it (is that still even about.) I may end up doing that eventually. I'll look into it.
And I have no problem with others using it as a basis for anything, but I've really no time to deal with something like a wiki, unfortunately. :) And honestly, while I can definately see the advantages, having all the information in one big document was really what I wanted here. _________________________ Papermonk - Mighty, yet flamable

Very handy resource! This will certainly have a spot in the NWN Library of most builders, particularly those who know a little about scripting, and are getting to the next level.
I would love to see this updated & maintained regularly. It's a fine adjunct to NWN Lexicon. _________________________ Live fast, die young, and leave a lootable corpse.

Dude, I have been looking all over for something like this. I am the type of person who needs to know the "why's" of the scripting structure and not just what to put to make SOMETHING happen. I COMMEND you on your effort here for making it easier for us beginers to move along. Well, at 300+ pages I got a lot of reading to do so I better go.....

Actually, the current word being released at shows in Germany is that scripting will be 100% compatable. Even if it just comes close, most scripting knowledge will carry over so... more like EARLY in the game ;-)
