I put this together to try out one of the new scripting commands Bioware has added in the v1.67 patch. You must be playing with beta version 1.67 or higher to use this. The beta is available here:
The Wand of Naming is found in Custom/Tutorial in the DM Creator and toolset item palette.
The Wand of Naming allows your DMs to rename NPCs, placeables, items, and doors. It works by summoning a Naming Fairy to act as a listener. Just speak the new name for the object you targetted when prompted by the fairy and it should change names. To revert back to the original name, use the wand on teh object again and say "." when prompted by the fairy for a new name.
Available:
1) ERF with the wand and necessary scripts
2) Demo Module
3) Screenshot from the demo module
4) by request - ERF of a new version of the wand useable by a PC
This is a small demo Module for the Wand of Naming. Log in as a DM and try renaming the Nobleman, or the Tunic, or the Crate. Or spawn a demon and name it "Ned Flanders". Or whatever.
We love this on our PW. Only problem is that it causes Hostile factions to attack the little namer gremlin.

Would it be possable to get a fix so that hostile creatures do not attack the fairy? Since it spawns as a summon of the DM, it is I think automatically considered part of the PC faction so hostiles go after it. I even set it to the same faction as the DMFI 'voice' and hostiles still attack it.

I've submitted an additional ERF to address your request. I'm not sure if the ERF addresses your needs, given that you have no toolset. Anyway, please let me know if it works or if you need something more specific - and provide details if so.

I tried this out, and I'm quite impressed; though I do have a request.
Would it be possible for you to make the wand usable by a non-DM character? The Mac version of NWN doesn't have the Aurora Toolset, so I can't make my own items in the proper way. It would be nice if I could at least give unique names to the items that I make in crafting modules without having to turn my character into a DM. I would greatly appreciate your help.
