Title  Cloak Hakker
Author  The Krit
Submitted / Updated  09-04-2006 / 12-26-2006
Category  Utility
Format  Exe File
Description
A quick way to update your haks to use the new cloaks in version 1.68.

This utility is very basic. It does one thing: update four columns of line 80 of a baseitems.2da included in a hak. Doing this should allow fully functional cloaks. Not doing this is one reason some cloaks are completely unable to receive colors.

If you are playing a module with an older hak that overrides baseitems.2da, then some cloak features are disabled, in particular the colors of the cloaks. Running this utility on that hak will restore fully-featured cloaks (barring unforseen circumstances). The hak files for the Premium Modules are exceptions -- since they are encrypted, this utility cannot modify them.

One quick way to add colors to cloaks -- after you update the relevant haks -- is with my Cloak Converter.

If you don't know which hak contains baseitems.2da, you can run this utility on all of them -- it will not make any changes if it cannot find a copy of baseitems.2da. If you are running a CEP1 module, you may want to update cep1patch153.hak, cep1patch152.hak, and cep2da.hak. (See my comment below for more info about CEP.)

Warning: Since modders are free to do so many things, there is a (very small) possibility that this utility could break a hak. Fortunately, this utility automatically makes backups.

You can drag files from Windows Explorer into the Cloak Converter window. Control-o is now a shortcut for opening a file.

If there's something missing, or you encounter a bug, let me know.

v1.0 adds more interface goodies.

A utility that updates haks so they do not impede 1.68 cloaks.

Rebuilding my install and this program is a necessity. Can't believe I never rated it before. Outstanding work and thanks for the donation to the community Krit.

If i wasn't a guy i'd have your love child!!!!

There have been many modules i wanted to play but didn't cuz it kept pissing me off with messing my cloak - a rather stylish looking teal one i picked up somewhere.

if i haven't said it before thank you soooo much!

very easy to use! Looking forward to being able to run this on multiple files at once. :)

For reference, the CEP haks that contain baseitems.2da are:

cep1patch153.hak
cep1patch152.hak
cep2da.hak

If you are using a CEP module that has not been updated since the release of CEP 1.68 (September 12, 2006), that module will not use CEP 1.68, but instead use the baseitems.2da from one of these three haks. Using Cloak Hakker on these haks should fully enable the new cloaks in these older CEP modules.

Should.

I have updated my CEP haks and it seems to work for me. However, I don't know all the ins and outs of CEP, so be wary of possible hidden problems. (Since they have much more experience with CEP than myself, I asked the CEP team about possible problems, but the only response I got was that CEP 1.68 has been released.)

The baseitems.2da that needs to be updated should be inside one of your haks. Which hak depends on the module you're playing.

You can run this utility on all your haks. If a hak doesn't contain baseitems.2da, nothing is done to that hak.

Where are that baseitems2da or something like that?

Kaotiqua, don't worry. I don't think this deserves a 10 yet because I know it still needs improvements. At the top of the list is the ability to select multiple files (which should be doable now that I've figured out how the Windows API returns the names).

Oh, man... Now I feel bad. I wasn't even thinking about breaking your perfect ten. Hope you don't hold it against me too much. The prog's terrific, and exactly what we all needed!

*BIG CHEERS* For an excellent, simple, and effective little piece of progging! The best thing about it: It worked seamlessly, or it didn't do anything at all. (ie: it didn't muck with stuff except that which it could fix. Seems like an obvious thing, but less common than should be the case, especially here on the Vault.)

The one drawback: Not being able to just run it on the whole hak folder, but one file at a time, instead. (I know you already know this, but it's the only flaw worth mentioning, which I can see so far!)

Thank you again for making such a simple, yet effective tool for us that are less than computer savvy (or just plain lazy). :)

Nice work. An easy solution to CEP-caused clashes with the 1.68 cloaks until CEP2.0 is released. Actually working on a solution to a problem; so much better that ranting on the front page of the vault!!!!!
