Description
Axe Murderer's CEP Setup Mage v1.68 by Axe
-----------------------------------------------------------

This package includes a setup installer package that you can run to install CEP Setup Mage v1.68 on your computer.

CEP Setup Mage v1.68 is a Windows program that helps you install CEP1 &/or CEP2 v1.0 into your NWN game folders. It can fix an incorrect or incomplete CEP1 &/or CEP2 v1.0 installation by searching your PC for the CEP files and moving them to the correct places in your NWN game installation folders.

It's a breeze to install and use but you must be running Windows to use it. I'm pretty sure it requires Windows XP but if you have Windows 98 or later you can give it a go and it just might be ok (no way for me to test sorry).

Unzip the contents of the zip file you downloaded and double-click on either the Setup.exe or CEP Setup Mage Installer.msi file to start the wizard that will guide you thru the installation process.

See the built-in help system after you install CEP Setup Mage v1.68 for instuctions on how to use it. Just click the Help button in the main screen to access it.

If you are having problems getting an error about .NET when you try to install it, you probably need to go get the
Redistributable .NET v2.0 Framework from Microsoft and install that first. It's a 23MB download. Make sure you get the redistributable one that matches your system (x86 for most users, x64 if you have a 64-bit version of Windows).

Important Note: This will not work for CEP2 v2.1. It is for CEP2 v1.0 and all versions of CEP1 only.

This zip file includes everything you'll need to use CEP Setup Mage v1.68

After downloading, unzip it into a folder somewhere on your PC then double-click on the Setup.exe file or the CEP Setup Mage Installer.msi file to start the wizard that guides you thru the installation process.

Click the Help button on the main screen after installing it when you run it for the first time for instructions on how to use it.

This won't help you install CEP2 v2.1. It is for all versions of CEP1 and CEP2 v1.0 only.

A "10" simply for making this for those people that have difficulties in installation of CEP! GOOD STUFF!!

I have Windows 2000 and I have the error "missing required hak" when I try to run a few modules, so I went to the log files and I see "couldn't find cep etc, etc" but the very same files that cannot be found are in the hak folders for example.

I am installing the CEP vs in the NWN folder. I think I am doing it right, please advise, it'as frustrating, thanks~!

Hey Axe,
I tried to screw it up but it worked great. I even moved files from directory to directory and it still performed beautifully!

It doesn't look on your drives for the NWN games, it looks in the windows registry. If it is saying you don't have NWN installed it is because your registry is not correct. This means your game installation is either incomplete or damaged - tho it may still work fine.

I suggest you get the critical updater patch or re-install NWN. It isn't a partition problem...

doesn't work with my partitions. I've got nwn installed on partition E and your toy tells me it's not installed at all

I can't believe so many people are still having problems with CEP installation but here is the step by step way to do it:
1. Download the CEP file(s) according to the instructions at the CEP download site.
2. Download my program using the link above.
3. If you know how to unzip CEP Setup Mage from the zip archive, do it then go to step 4.
--- 3a. If you don't know what unzipping is you are way behind the times but...
A zip file (a.k.a. an archive) is a file which contains a bunch of other files which have all been compressed size-wize and stuffed into one big file making it easier and faster to transmit all the files at once over the internet.
--- 3b. To extract the compressed files from an archive you need a program.
WinZip is the one most people use I think (that's what I use). It is a free download you can find using Google.
--- 3c. If you don't already have it, go find WinZip, download it, and install it on your computer.
--- 3d. Start WinZip and use it to open the CEP_Setup_Mage_v1.68_by_Axe.zip archive that you downloaded. Click the Extract option to extract the compressed files out of the zip file into a folder on your hard drive.
4. Double-click on the Setup.exe or CEP Setup Mage Installer.msi file you extracted from the zip file. This will run the installation wizard that puts CEP Setup Mage on your computer.
5. Extract the CEP files from the rar archive(s) you downloaded from the CEP download site.
Rar files are exactly like zip files except you may not be able to use WinZip to extract them depending on what version of WinZip you downloaded (WinZip 11 can do rar files, I have version 8 and it cannot). If your WinZip can't do it, you'll need to get WinRar to do it (there are some others around too like WinAce, I use WinRar). It is also a free download you can find using Google. Find it, install it, and use it to extract the CEP files from the rar archive(s) you downloaded.
6. After you get all the CEP files extracted from the CEP rar archive(s) you downloaded, start up CEP Setup Mage and click the button you'll see next to the CEP Status box. It will search your computer for the extracted CEP files and move them to the proper folders in your NWN installation. When it is done it should say no CEP files are missing and show the CEP version installed in the CEP status box. If it didn't work it will be because you did not get all the CEP files or did not extract them correctly, and the missing ones it could not find (the ones you still need to download &/or extract) will be listed in the big box at the bottom of the window.
7. Once you get CEP Setup Mage to say you aren't missing any files you are done. Close Setup Mage and go Play!

Well this program makes sure you have every possible CEP1 installation available and installed correctly in your game folders. If you play only NWN v1.68 CEP1 enabled modules then you won't ever use the CEP1 v1.53 hak (since those modules will require CEP v1.68 instead and don't use v1.53. My program is listing that as a missing file because you don't have it installed and therefore you cannot play CEP1 v1.53 enabled modules. It doesn't mean that you can't play CEP v1.68 / NWN v1.68 modules because for v1.68 the v1.53 CEP hak is totally replaced by the v1.68 one. However, if you play some module that was made back when v1.53 was the most recent, that module will expect you to have v1.53 installed.

Note CEP1 v1.53 is the only CEP1 hak that works this way. All the other CEP1 haks are required for later versions. So if you play a CEP 1.68 module you will still need CEP 1.50, 1.52, ..., 1.68 except for the one 1.53 hak which is a special case one.

If you have NWN v1.68 then as long as you either have CEP1 1.53 installed (in which case it won't be used at all) or if CEP Setup Mage is saying you are missing CEP1 v1.53 only (in which case it won't matter because v1.68 people don't ever need CEP1 v1.53) then you will be ok.

Only my suggestion, but I think you should have all the CEP1 haks installed just to be on the safe side. Then if you ever do come across a module that needs it, you will have it installed and ready to go. It's only a 7MB file so that's not much of a hit on your disk space anyhow.

I tried this last night. I have the 1.68 patch for Nwn. I also use win98se.
the program says that the nwn installation is ok, but that there is a missing cep file, the v1.53 patch!

however this patch, I read, is not supposed to be in my files, if I use the nwn 1.68 bioware patch!

---must be a problem that i use win98se!

good looking program otherwise.

There is a shortcut to the help installed on your start-programs menu. Also you can browse to the folder where you installed it and there's a shortcut for it there as well.

Works fine as far as I could see. Found a missing hak, too *heh*.
Good job, Axe, as always.

If you can spare 10 seconds of your valuable time, please return here to let me know if this worked for you. I couldn't care less whether you vote for it or don't vote at all, but I'd like to know if it is working or not.
