Now UpDated to version 2 - what's new?
I tried to eliminate perspective distortions.
There is a decreased limit to max. distance and camera's angle is corrected too.
It schould make ingame using more comfortable.
**************************************
Unofficial NWMAIN.EXE modification.
1. Unlock camera angle, so u can look to the sky.
2. Unlock camera distance, so u can see game like FPS, or zoom out far away.
3. Increase FOG distance.
The best way how to get min zoom "FPS like wiev" is by pressing "Home" button
and to restore normal wiew is by pressing "Num *". If u zoom to "FPS wiev"
only by middle mouse scrool button u might still see your character's body...
If u zoom out, u will not see more creatures/enemies then in not modifed game,
u will see only more terain.
If u press "End" button, u might see only black screen, its becouse u zoomed
out too much, simply use middle mouse scrool button to zoom in or press
"Home" button or "Num *".
The reason why I created this is that I was interested in the feeling of
"FPS like wiev" in NWN and the possibility how to use it during creating
in-game video.
This mod is inspired by BrandonW's Camera Angle Hack Version J
Link as well as Forrestwolf's Camera Hack

This patch were built in uNivErsaL PatCheR 2.0.b1
This patch will find path to nwmain.exe in registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\BioWare\NWN\Neverwinter]
"Location"= (for.ex.: "D:\Games\NeverwinterNights")
Or you can use "Location" button and find nwmain.exe by your self.
This patch does not create backup, but it is able to restore changes.
If u have diferent version of nwmain.exe, download this Official UpDate
NWNEnglish1.69HotUUpdate.exe and apply it.
//Sry for bad english
Enjoy game.
If you prefere hex editing this might be helpfull:
To calculate float value I used: "Float / Hex Conversion" by John Gerthoffer
Link
*****************************************************************************
Max distance: 00 00 C8 41 = float 25 to 00 00 C8 42 = float 100
*****************************************************************************
Min distance: 00 00 80 3f = float 1 to cc cc 4c be = -0.2 (1st person wiev)
This program hacks another program - it explicitly states that in the program description. This program hacks the main NWN exe file to make the camera better. OF COURSE your antivirus is going to spot it (if your antivirus is any good).
This uses the same method as trojans (exe hex editing) to make a game better. Refusing to use it because your antivirus recognizes it is like refusing to cut your food with a knife because people have been killed with knives before and so all knives are murder weapons. See how that doesn't make any sense whatsoever?
It's too bad there's not a version of this that could be comfortably used. - ie - not so risky to install. I'd love to try it - but with all the comments - it is infected - it isn't infected - it's too much of a risk to take. _________________________ Lysithea: Farsong designer at nwnlysithea.org

it's a virus. dot. i run my setup spy and it not only patches nwmain.exe it also download a rootkit invisible way. sure, the author does not put in the trojan, it was already in his resourcehacker tool.
i can tell this by the name: uNivErsaL PatCheR 2.0.b1

Just walked through the whole Virus/Trojan thing.
It's a false positive. AVG called it a Trojan when I tried to take it out of the zip, and again when I put it in the main NWN directory that it has to run from. Couldn't make up its mind what to call it, though. Then Ad-Aware wouldn't let me run it until I shut Ad-Watch Live off for a bit.
When I ran it, it opened a small app that lets you modify or revert nwmain.exe. The rest of my system scans clean, because, again, it's a false positive.
Works like a charm. Thanks, man. Can't believe I'd forgotten about this.

Sorry! Didn't vote before. I've been using this for some time in my other computer but today when i try to install this in my new computer, I get a virus alert; tried to ignore the alert and install anyway and windows won't let me, keeps saying it's the wrong specified path etc... Sad really, I'll just try to get the nwmain file from my old computer, since I was using it before without any problems.
i decided to take your advice North Wolf and i decided (after getting McAfee & Avast!) to download it...
at first no warning popped up but as soon as i attempted to execute the prgram McAfee found a Trojan, which just so happend to appear around the time i downloaded this very program :-|
luckily McAfee and Avast! took care of the problem, but i think my word from previous still stands...
Virus scanners can give false positives just like they can miss real viruses. They're not perfect and they never will be.
Avast Antivirus says the file is safe, and I'd believe LordOfWorms as well on McAfee. I highly doubt this does anything harmful to your system, but it is a utility designed to modify an executable, so I can understand why it would look nasty to a virus scanner.
I found another nwmain.exe from another pc and I have replaced it.
I must say that probably there was not fault of your patch. After have spoken with someone more expert than me of registry & C., I have reason to believe that an error may be occurred during the application of the patch, that corrupted some file.
At the end I think that it was a misfortuned case, that can rarely happen.
I've even seen that problem can present hitself in the areas whit set: "interior" and/or "underground"
PS.
I've also opened nwmain.exe with an hex editor, but I can't be able to find were are the lines to change.

Roma your mod is so cool,
keep up the cool work
@all there is no virus in it, you know antivirus think that programs that modify or scan other programs can be a virus, some time an antivirus will tell you that an other antivirus IS a virus ^^
i personnaly have not spoted any virus in Roma's hak

Hello guys,
infected... What can I say? Firstly I claim, there is no virus, trojan, piece of code trying to modife OS, files, what so ever.
Mine patch maded in uNivErsaL PatCheR 2.0.b1 (as I wrote above) modife only nwmail.exe and yes... This kind of befaviour can be marked by some paranoid AV as illegal. You dont have to trust me and I do not recomend to trust anyone on the internet. So you can download programs like TotalUninstall (trial) and check what is any program trying to do.
Or you can try to modife your nwmain directly - I gived you offsets above.

Meh...used it before with no issues, but yeah, AVG says its infected with a trojan now >_ _________________________ Dream Well, Faith, Loyalty, Truth, Honor, Friendship always.....

When I download this it get blocked by both avg and avast! I went ahead and downloaded on a different box and ported it over and networked it over and several parts of my computer got infected (explorer.exe, localhost.exe) I reinstall windows and tried again with the same results.
Wondering if I am doing something wrong, or if somehow this really did pick up a virus (which seems unlikely based on the glowing reviews.) I'd really love to use this. Any insight or input would be appreciated.

Easily in my top five for greatest game changing modifications. Awesome stuff.
That said, wouldn't mind the maximum draw distance to be a bit farther out, but otherwise, the update is a nice fine tuning.
Hi jml
Well, this patch were built in uNivErsaL PatCheR 2.0.b1 without compression.
And all what it does is describet bellow so u can try to edit your NWMAIN manually. _________________________ NWN SoU+HotU 1.69 camera mod v2 - UpDated 02/10/09
Mac guy here. I believe our first problem with your quite tempting application might be only because it's compressed in an .exe format, but the kind we can't open.
Maybe, if you were able to provide it under some .zip, .7z, or even .rar format, we could at least open it and, maybe, maybe, once this is done, be able to use it depending on if what's inside is for us or not.
As I wouldn't mind playing with it myself, just as some other Mac users I'm sure.
(The Linux version doesn't help.)
Thanks.

I guess I never voted for this... Purely Awesome. I can't imagine NWN without it.

All I can say is THANKS!!!! I found out about your work from the forum at World of Grayhawk (a low magic server I play in). At first I was afraid to use your work thinking it was going to be complicated to make the changes but was very surprised to see how easy it was (one press of a button *modify* and done wow!)
I am so glad there are people out there that understand code. I hope Bioware takes notice of you work such details make such a difference in game play.
Maybe you take requests *grins*. If you are good with code maybe you can make something so that one can move the character by pressing a spot on the map and thus saving the trouble of constantly having to adjust the camera angle in order to click on the ground (one has to do this so often and it is hard to do when the camera angle is such that there is little to no ground in view and one wants to move a few steps forward or back). I know one can use the "w" key but that can get sloppy...
Anyway big cheers for your work thanks for sharing it with the NWN community.
