This tutorial takes up some common mistakes authors make when they distribute Custom Content. Mistakes that cause headaches to whomever wanting to use their work. It targets both new and old, and will hopefully ease up the pain it requires to use custom content.
This is a compilation of the old system into a single score. There were 2 that made this score of 7.50 then rounded to 8.

I've created quite a number of TGA graphic files for the
one-piece usable items (rings, amulets, gloves/gauntlets,
belts, cloaks), but I'm not sure what needs to be done
besides the graphics themselves. Is there additional
editing that needs to be done in an ERF or .2DA before this
can be of maximum value to anyone who downloads it, and is
there a document around here which will explain that? (I'm
aware that this probably isn't the best place to ask, but
since this is a document on distributing custom content...)

I think the most important part in the tutorial is the
labels.
We all know that we are probably forced to update the
appearences once we imported the ERF, and labeling the
tag/2dalabel the same, helps alot.
As for HAK files, I know that I have stomped them pretty
bad... I have tried hak combiner, but it doesnt treat 2da
files... And god knows what would happen if I overwrote
one of my 2da files... Thats a serious loss of work :)
Best Regards
JemyM

Ditto, i agree, if someone only makes one itty bitty
little model and everybody uses it is no different than if
somebody else makes 20, credit should always be given,
were all in this together and respect is key. Readme and
demo's are great, and lastly checking the comments on your
upload are also very important. Good job JemyM.

This is a good idea--more people should follow these sorts
of guidelines.
I disagree with the point about distributing files outside
the hak format, as I don't mind extracting them to combine
haks. It should be noted that the hak editor allows one to
combine haks (though doesn't resolve 2da conflicts).
Demo mods are always great to have with a hak. I might
suggest that authors preface the mod's title with "Demo -
". I do this with mods myself (after downloading) so that
they all sort together.
I think it is also important to provide a "readme" file,
however brief. The community could probably establish some
boilerplate ones for creatures, placeables, etc. You
should always properly credit others who contributed to
the work, and the "readme" is the place to do it.
I would definitely prefer to have 2da entries presented
separately for easy cut & pasting. These could also go in
the "readme" file.
