uniform scaling of MDL files (models and animations). 'uniform' = x, y, z axes all scaled by same factor. should hold us over until SnakeEyes releases his asymmetric scaler. written in QuickBasic 4.5 and compiled as stand-alone executable. why? b/c i could do it quickly and i didn't have much time. accordingly, older DOS filename conventions apply (e.g., ????????.??? alphanum chars only). extract MDL file from NWN (i.e., with NWViewer); convert binary file to ASCII (i.e., with MDL2ASCII); rename ascii file to conform with old DOS conventions; run MDLSCALR from the same directory; input source ascii filename without '.mdl' extension; input target ascii filename to dump scaled model/animation set to w/o including '.mdl' extension; input scaling factor: (i.e., <1.0 = reduction in size; >1.0 = enlargement). tested on several models; should work on anything not explicitly tested as well. please let me know if you have any problems with particular model/animation sets.

To use, open the model you want to work with in NWN Explorer. With the model selected right click on the ASCII Model tab on the bottom and export to a place of your choosing. Remove the .txt at the end of the file. Here's a catch too:
"older DOS filename conventions apply" Make sure that the files do not have underscores and odd things in the name of the file. Best thing to do is rename the file, make your changes then rename it again to what you want. Hope this helps.
This is a compilation of the old system into a single score. There were 1 that made this score of 10 then rounded to 10.

Ok
I had the same problem Decclan on a creature mdl.
Couldn't rescale with obsidian
I couldn't also with this exe
But what I was doing is executing the exe from a dos prompt I launched from Start -> Execute.
Now the module didn't find the .mdl
Since I launch the exe by dble-clicking on it, it works well.
Hope it can be helpful for you too

Could someone please post a text example of how to use this program for the "DOS impaired" like myself and many others out there. I have a model I'm trying to rescale and ||Snakeeyes|| Obsidian SS scaler won't do it for some reason. I've expierenced it before on a couple of other models. Some do work though. I think it has something to do with animations. Hopefully, this one will be able to scale it. I just need to know how to use it. The directions here are a little vague for non-DOS users. Thanks!!

This has been the answer to my prayers. I have been trying
to convert creature models into giant statues for the
longest time now. I was able to do everything but the
scaling, and now I have that too. Thanks!

There is a dragon pack in the works which will have scaled
dragons for all colors and ages. :)

That problem with your blue dragon has to do with the fact
that the animiations for the blue dragon are located in
another mdl file. To correct the problem change the
"setanimiationscale" value to match the scale you applied to
the file. setanimiationscale is only a good fix for scaled
files that have animiations in another file.

Hi, I just tested your scaler on the Gold Dragon MDL file
and recieved the following error message.
Out of string space in module MDLSCALR at address 0A93:01FC.
> Used file names w/o .mdl
> Used a scale factor of 1.10
> Windows 2000 Platform
Also be wary as the x,y,z scaling does not completely cover
animations, nor emitters. I should have my app released
tonight. I wanted to put it out with a big hak pack but I
figure I will leave that to others to pull off.

P.S.! What I'd really like to see something like this
used for is to create entirely new monsters. Ancient
Dragons that are minimum 2.0 scale of the normal, maybe
even 3.0. Baby dragons that are .5 scale. etc but this
must be done *without* replacing existing models. Many
releases thus far have replaced existing models and that
isn't all that useful. We need *new* models. ;-)

This is a decent generic scaler but the problem is while
it does keep the same animation it doesn't sit the
creature properly on the floor. I scaled a blue dragon up
to 2.0 and while it was large and impressive looking its
legs stuck through the floor of the tile so thats not all
that useful. Also it seems to have problems scaling
certain models? I scaled a green dragon up and it didn't
show up at all not sure if that was on my end or not.
