The NWN Auto-Updater program is designed to provide a simple user interface which enables users to automatically download and apply updates to the NWN Installations on their Mac. Additionally it will also update/install SoU and HotU from the Linux resources on the SoU and HotU CDs. Updated and compatible for 1.62 Base/SoU/HotU. This is a fix to .99 rc2 and rc3 problems with installing HotU on 1.62.

New in 0.99.3
This minor release includes four things:
Bugfix:
When installing an expansion onto a copy of NWN which was updated past the expansion's native patchlevel, the updater engine will now correctly detect that it needs to install an update for the new expansion.
New Provision 1:
For version 1.61 of Hordes of the Underdark, Bioware did not use the normal naming convention for the update. For patchlevel 1.62 they reverted to using the naming conventions established for the Shadows of Undrentide patches. This revision of the updater engine recognizes this change.
New Provision 2:
The 1.62 patchlevel update for Hordes of the Underdark updates only from version 1.61, not from the version on the HotU CD (1.59). As such, this means that anyone installing HotU now will need to download & install both the 1.61 update (to make HotU work on the Mac at all) and the 1.62 update.
New Feature:
Due to the bug mentioned above, it was possible that the old version of the updater engine would not install updates for all installed components at a given patchlevel. Furthermore, since the updater engine cannot tell when different components are not updated to the same level, users would have to download a patch & intsall manually. To help remedy this situation, a new preference item, 'always install latest update', has been added. Turning this option on will make the updater act as though the installed copy of Neverwinter Nights is running the patchlevel prior to the one actually installed - so if you're running 1.62, it will act as though you were running 1.61. This will, in effect, 'force' the updater engine to download and install the latest update.
This is a compilation of the old system into a single score. There were 8 that made this score of 10.00 then rounded to 10.

I've just updated the application to RC2, which includes a couple of fixes for potential bugs:
Firstly, I've changed the memory management used when decompressing each file from an archive. Previously, it relied on garbage collection which would run after each file was written completely to disk. Now it explicitly deallocates memory after writing each 4Kb chunk of a file, which will help ease potential problems with large files munching lots of virtual memory. I only heard of this bug from one person on RC1, so I don't believe it was a very common occurrence, but this update fixed his problem, so here it is.
Secondly, there was a glitch in the preferences 'save' function - if you turned off both the 'use persistent download folder' and 'use local folder only' options, it wouldn't store the new value for the 'local only' preference. This would cause the updater to not look anywhere for an update, sinec these preferences are accessed seperately; The installer wouldn't use the local folder since one isn't specified, and wouldn't look online because the 'local only' preference was still switched on. I've changed this so that any time you turn off 'use persistent download folder' it'll always turn off 'use local folder only'.

I myself don't use a Macintosh computer, but I think it's great that you're releasing this file! This is absolutely a must-have. Great job!

note: HotU and Language Update support not available in v.92. Those updates should be available at the next point release.
