***NOW Updated*** v0.91, Supports HotU (now fixed for Red Dragon Disciple) A quick and simple console program for maximizing the Hit Point rolls of a characters .bic file. Please report any bugs...
Just stumbled across this, and noticed the most recent questions were never answered (and I happen to know some answers; I am not the author of this program). The original enquirers probably will not coming back to see this (given how old the questions are), but in case someone else has the same queries:
Does it need to be updated for 1.69? On the one hand, the program probably/possibly does not handle PDK. On the other hand, 1.69 introduced a nwnplayer.ini setting that makes the program sort of obsolete (Max Hit Points=1 in the [Server Options] section; works in single-player and if set by the host in multiplayer).
Why does it not work in single player games? This program works on PCs between games. During a game, your current PC is stored inside the saved game itself (a .sav file), not in a .bic file. (There is a .bic file associated with a saved game, but that is not what NWN looks at when loading the save.) Since this program only states that it works on .bic files, I would assume that it can do nothing to your current PC until you finish your current campaign.
Where are the .bic files? In your localvault subdirectory (of wherever the game is installed).
Becoming frustrated and wasting time on just getting the PC leveled up: Seems like someone has their priorities out of order... (OK, you like your maximum hit points, but was it really worth missing out on "tons of awesome high level modules on the vault"? Maximum hit points are more awesome than those modules?)

This is a helpful program. Does it need to be updated for patch 1.69 (new Purple Dragon Knight class)?
1. save game
2. run MaxHP on player.bic in save directory to generate player1.bic
3. delete old bic file and replace with new one (rename player1.bic to player.bic)
4. launch NWN and load saved game
Result: No max HP! At least not for a dwarf figher with 18 CON.
Is this tool not intended for single player games?? Is there another tool that is?? Thanks for your help!
PS - I'm running NWN Diamond updated to version 1.68.8099.

Thank the Gods!!! And thank Jevan or Osho or whoever you are!!! I have searched and searched and searched for a tool to give Maximum HP's! As a player who loves playing single player modules, I cannot begin to estimate the thousands/millions of wasted clicks I have subjected myself to in order to get ready for an adventure. There are tons of awesome high level modules on the vault that I haven't played due to the frustrtation and time spent wasted -WASTED- on just getting the PC leveled up! Thanks to the author of this handy tool, I might not need wrist surgery after all!!! (LOL)
This utility should have shipped with the game IMHO. I don't care which side of the MAX-HP debate you are on, at least then we as players could decide for ourselves! All less than 31kb too! HA!
Anyway, a million "thank-you's" to the author!!! I hope to god this gets Ten Votes so other players might be able to find it easier!

This looks really great, but with a server it seems unpractical. I personaly have been looking/ trying to write a script for some time that in game that Max's a PC's HP upon leveling up in a certain area. but none the less a really cool function.

Hey i got the maxhp tool but i cant find my character's .bic file - where should it be?

1) Make a charcter
2) Save it
3) Close NWN
4) Use maxhp tool to create your 'new' maxed .bic file for that character
5) delete the old one(s)
6) run NWN gain
7) hey presto your new guy should show up normally (his HP will be like they were before you maxed them, but when you enter the game they -will- be maxed)
P.S. steps 3 / 6 and 5 are optional... but skipping steps 3/6 will cause the maximized character's display to act funny in the character select screen (though you can still select the character and join just fine) until the next time you restart nwn.
P.P.S. If you really want the character to show the new HPs in the character select screen, just export a new copy after joining the game.

MaxHP: Click Here
Drag your character's .bic file and drop it on maxhp.exe. Another .bic file will be created. Place the new .bic file into your localvault folder and you're done. Max HP.

no need to worry about that JHD considering this program effects local characters only. it can't be used for server vault servers.

Hmm... A program that runs in the background of a game and alters the current functions to a specific player's benefit.
I'd say that using this online is the exact same thing as using a hack. It may not do anything out of bounds like give *extra* HP, but it is a workaround for many servers that enforce non-maxing HP, gives online players an unfair advantage, and most of all, IS NOT BUILT INTO THE GAME.
This in no way can be compared to the FEAT Maximize spell.

Where do I extract it to?

Thanks a lot Jevan Gray,
For those of us from D&D and AD&D 1E and/or those playing with Very Difficult settings + Henchmen Inventory and Improved AI the maximised HP should be a feature not an exploit.
Nobody ever said that "Maximised spell" feat is an exploit. Is that fair?
Posted by Anonymous ( 66.169.xxx.xxx ) at 2004-04-19 23:37:00
it should, since toughness isn't factored into the hp rolls for a level. It is a feat that simply adds 1 hp per level...
Posted by Selric ( 69.158.xxx.xxx ) at 2004-04-16 20:21:00
does this take the "Toughness" feat into account?

Oh thank god. Its what ive been looking for.

Thanks for the feedback! I just updated by fixing the silly little error that was keeping the Red Dragon Disciple from giving the maximum hp past the first increase. Please grab the new version 0.91. So far its worked just fine for every character I've tried.
This is a compilation of the old system into a single score. There were 1 that made this score of 10 then rounded to 10.

Excellent program. A major time saver for me.

Hey, great program- a time saver, but for a Red Dragon Disciple, it only updates the first hit die increase (from 6 to 8). When your hitpoints increase to d10, it doesn't set them to 10.. it keeps them at 8.
