NWN Model Renamer v1.0 is a handy little tool for *gasp* renaming your model files. This will be of most use to those who need to combine several hak paks that have overlapping parts (ie two people made a really cool top but both named it to the chest150 slot), and those who want to rename their models from one part to another (belts and skirts to robes for example). It's pretty close to idiot proof (since Daniel did write it for me ;o} ), and it's pretty hard to screw anything up. It won't overwrite any originals (it saves everything to a new directory), and includes a happy little (if sarcastic) help file. We hope this helps all you folks changing this from belts, chests and pelvises to robes with the release of HotU and those of you who like to combine things. If you have problems running the file, let us know :o)

Actually, this is not made for plt files, and is not guaranteed to work with them at all (since they are binary). Please download the current version of the program and follow the instructions in the help file to the *letter*. This *is* for renaming model files in both their name and inside the file. You have to make sure to leave *off* the .mdl extension when telling it what to rename it to (since there are no references to it inside the file). You also need to make sure that the file is in ascii format as opposed to binary. These are the 2 most likely reasons your files are getting truncated.
I'm just kind of a moron. You don't use a program like this to rename models. You just change their name and its enough. It's the .plt file you need this program for.
This is a compilation of the old system into a single score. There were 2 that made this score of 9.00 then rounded to 9.

Woot! And I was just going to write one myself two days ago but got kinda busy... :)

Hehe... I was thinking the same thing-- "Why didn't I just wait?!"
Danmar: Awesome idea. Daniel is plugging away at this now. We'll have 2 filechecks. The basic one won't be as complete, but will work for any type of model I think. The advanced one will only work for body part files, but will be pretty all-encompassing and should get any incorrect references in the model files.
There are going to be several new options in the next couple days as well as a couple new functions, the non-mdl file renaming (instead of screwing it up) and the fixed tab order *blushes* as a couple examples. I'll update the file as soon as Daniel tells me I can :o)

This is pretty freakin' bizzare! You know how long I searched for a program like this before writing mine?!!? If I had waited TWO DAYS I could have just downloaded this one! Oh well. Good job guys, we both saw something that was needed. What a weird coincidence, though...

After trying in vain to get Java VM to install on my computer, this makes me think the Gods of Neverwinter must be on my side! WOOT!

One very useful option would be the ability to have it parse through a directory of mdl's and check and optionally fix that the mdl's internal name equals the items external aka file name. A lot of community content this is screwed up and in some cases can cause subtle errors like models not showing up properly.

Ah, the irony. I uploaded this after deciding it was finally finished about midnight yesterday then went to go eat (cause my husband and I had forgotten to), and when we got back I went to see if a hak I had posted was up, and lo and behold, NWNRenamer had been posted by David Chevalier. They are completely unrelated (despite the similarity in names). His has functionality that this one does not (ie his will renumber a series of files where with this one you specify a new number/name). Also, this is a windows app and does not require any type of java to run. Mr. Chevalier's is java though, so I think it will work on any platform.
Couple notes: If you select plt files, they will not be saved correctly in the new directory. Just delete them and use your old ones with new names. This has been fixed to rename them properly without messing up the files, and I'll upload the new version within a day or two. I have one or two features I want to add before I do. This currently only works with model files for body parts. We are working on functionality for everything from weapons to tilesets. We have a bunch of features to put in, but I had gotten impatient to post it and made Daniel leave it as functional :o) Oh, also, using the tab key to go between fields is a little... off... it will jump you around in a weird order. Sorry about that, and it is being fixed as we spe-- err... type.
Anyway, let me know if there is any functionality you would like added/tweaked. Daniel is eager to upgrade it :o) Also, just let me know what you think in general. He'd love to get some feedback, positive or negative.
