This small utility constantly monitors your NWN server program(s) and reloads your modules using zero to one percent of your CPU. Nwmonitor.exe polls the windows processes looking for your server. Should the program fail to locate your server, the server program is restarted with all of the parameters you pass.
This is a compilation of the old system into a single score. There were 4 that made this score of 10.00 then rounded to 10.

Is there a way for us to get NWN Process Monitor to execute a renamed nwserver.exe? For example if I have a nwserver-b.exe

what i wrote in my previous post was uncalled for and i retract it. i am trying to contact nwn vault admins to have them remove my posts. I have talked to Tomkin and he is an excellent programmer and all around person. i wish him the best of luck and hope to collaborate with him in the future.

I don't want to steal thunder from this guys program (I'm sure its an excellent utility), but I just uploaded the newest version of NWN Server Config (NWNSC). NWNSC now has server crash detection and auto restart (of the NW Server), plus ton's of other features. Do a search for "NWN Server Config" on this site to learn more.

This looks neat. I wonder if this will help to decrease crashes on my server.

Thanks Tomkin, I mimicked your commandline example and it's working just fine now,
Cheers for the speedy reply!

In short there shouldn't be any side effects with your situation. What you are actually seeing is just the display being handed off to the parameters box. This won't really affect how the program monitors the server as the command line is passed off directly to the server program. It will, however, obviously make your parameters list look a little oddballish.

I have a small problem with the program, The name of my module contains hyphins (-), it counts each - as a different peramiter in the name. Do you know of anyway that this problem can be fixed without having to change the mod name?

Great work Tomkin I am very proud of you.

Made a small update to the program. Version 1.1.54 keeps the code tighter, keeps the logs a little fresher and a few other things. :)

Dreamwarder,
I did some additional tests with a couple of different command line sets. I finally determined that there are some things that the server program (nwserver.exe) just doesn't like to parse in a certain order. After rearranging a test commandline a few times, I finally got the following commandline to work:
-servername "00 Complex Server Name 00" -port 5122 -maxclients 20 -module "H4 The Throne of Bloodstone"
Unfortunately the best advice I can give you in this regard is to just keep trying to arrange your commandline until you get a set that works. If you need some help with this, feel free to email me with your parameters and I will see what I can come up with (or put out a revision if there is a bug).

Alec,
The differences between this and NWMan are the following:
- NWMan polls gamespy, so you are not able to host "private" games since NWMan will not be able to find your server on the 'net. NWNProcMon, however, polls the windows processes.
- NWMan does not backup your logs, NWNProcMon will.
- NWMan is commandline based, and requires additional support files (pv.exe, etc.) in order to work properly. NWProcMon does not.
- NWMan will reload your server after 'n' minutes, NWProcMon will not do this.
- NWProcMon has the ability to discover is your server is empty, and / or lives in a "fugue" state where the process still runs and eats CPU but no window is available. In this case, NWProcMon will attempt to shut down all server processes and reload them as necessary. NWMan will not do this.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head. :)

Dreamwarder, the program should pass all supplied parameters directly to the server program. If you have a complicated servername ("This is my server", for example), then you should put it in quotes. If this still doesn't work, you can always "shut down" the server and allow it to reload. I have seen the server software itself forget to set the servername parameter occasionally.

Nice piece of kit, but I think I've found a small bug. The commandline switches all seem to be working ok appart from -servername. Any ideas?

Excellent work Tomkin. How about opening up a discussion on this prog and other scripts, etc. on the Krynn forum for suggestions and bug reports.

This looks like a nice program. I currently use NWMan. What are the advantages / differences of the two?
