Title  NwN Character Organizer v1.3
Author  'Soda' Bob Curtis
Submitted / Updated  12-20-2002 / 06-29-2005
Category  Application
Format  Exe File
Description
Updated! Version 1.3

The Character Organizer is a simple to use *freeware* Windows program that automates the renaming/reorganizing of your Neverwinter Nights character files. It's main feature is a batch routine which renames your character files so that Neverwinter Nights displays them in chronological order. A second tool makes it easy to archive (and unarchive) any of your character files. Once archived, character files can also be deleted if desired.

v1.3 adds a tool to revert back to the BioWare default file naming scheme and a tool to automatically archive all of the BioWare pregenerated characters. You can also now change the location of the archived files.

This is a compilation of the old system into a single score. There were 5 that made this score of 5.40 then rounded to 5.

Exactly, tried the official site all that mentioned that there was an error but thatit shouldnt be a problem in v1.4.
Probably has something to do with VB....

I just installed version 1.4, and I am getting the LCocx.ocx error. Any ideas as to how to fix this?

The installer doesnt work. This Download is +blocked+.

Posted by "Soda" Bob Curtis ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-01-06 10:48:00
Huh... Troy, you SHOULD be getting the v1.2 file download
if you try it now - I JUST downloaded it from the link
above and tried the installer (I'm not sure about what file
was available on Jan 3rd, however). Try to download it
again. To help you make sure you have the latest version,
you can now tell what version you have on the very first
installer screen; on the left side you'll see the 'book
fairy' graphic and under her you will see "Version x.x"
with x.x being the version number. The most recent
downloadable file, as of this writing, should have a
filename that ends with NwNCharOrg12a.exe - hope that helps.

For those of you who have downloaded the Character
Organizer and have enjoyed it even a little bit should stay
tuned for a new version 1.3! It features the ability to
revert all your active character files back to the BioWare
standard filename numbering scheme, a tool to automatically
archive all of the BioWare pregenerated characters and a
tool to change the file folder where the archive character
files are stored. It should be uploaded in the next day or
so...

I just downloaded this file and i received version 1.0 and
thus it didnt work. Today is the 3rd of Janurary so i must
assume that the new version is not uploaded yet?

Im only glad to have been of help to you, and others who
download the program. 8)

"presense" = presence

I *DO* know how to spell! I just wasn't paying
attention. :)

Posted by "Soda" Bob Curtis ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-01-02 07:16:00
Sorry I didn't get back to this thread earlier, New Year's
celebrations kept me away from the computer.

Interesting fix, Thorin! Thanks!

In addition, I think I found a way to fix it for everyone
without having to download that winsock ocx.

I contacted the author of LCocx and he informed me that I
needed to register the LCocx file with the system during
installation, like this:

regsvr32.exe lcocx.ocx

Armed with that information, I have created a new v1.2a
installer that does just that.

Given all this information, I'm guessing that the reason it
worked for some people, and not for others, was probably
the presence or absense of that winsock ocx that Thorin
mentions. If you had it, then the LCocx worked; if not, it
failed. However, with my latest installer it should work
(theoretically) regardless of the presense of the winsock
ocx.

If there is anyone out there who is having the LCocx issue,
but has not applied Thorin's fix, please download my
version 1.2a installer for this program and let me know if
it works for you. I'm going to upload v1.2a to the
download link above, but it may not be valid for a day or
so, so you might want to download it at my website instead
(see author info above).

Thanks to everyone for their patience, and to Thorin for
his help!

Anyway , i did a search , and i have MSVBVM50.DLL in
system32...

Also tried copying the files into the install dir.. didn't
work either... this is really wierd.. i tried setting
compability and stuff but that did nothing either.

Oh... and the "1.0 Beta" issue is just a program name
labeling field I forgot to change deep in the project's
properties. You do have the most up to date 1.2 version!

Thanks again,

Bob.

Posted by "Soda" Bob Curtis ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2002-12-31 09:29:00
Hi Thorin. It seems that there is something else going on
here, I just don't know what... yet. You have the correct
(and most up to date) version of LCocx (1.0), and also the
one I used to develop the program with. It seems like it's
the one that my installer placed on your system. It
*should* work!

Are you comfortable with copying files from one place to
another? I'm guessing so. If so, please copy all the
lcocx files (LCocx.DEP LCocx.oca LCocx.ocx) from the
System32 folder to the Character Organizer install folder.
The default location is c:\Program
Files\SodaSoft\CharacterOrg\ - after you've copied the
files, try running the Character Organizer again and let me
know the results.

Another thing: Please search your \System32\ folder for a
file with this name: MSVBVM50.DLL I'm pretty sure that's
only a development DLL, but perhaps it's also required on
the user machine as well.

This is an odd problem, considering that me and my test
user are both running Windows XP as well, and neither of us
has had these LCocx issues so far. I really expected you
to say you were running Win95 or Win98 or something, as I
haven't personally tested this on either of those operating
systems.

Thank you for your help!

Bob.

Hi again , i checked and the only lcocx is one that
resides in system32 , however it is version 1.0 , i'm
gonna check if i can get a newer version and install.

I also found it strange that it says 1.0beta , thats why i
thought maybe there had been a mixup... And really , i
have never tried your program before.

Posted by "Soda" Bob Curtis ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2002-12-31 07:08:00
Thorin,

Thanks for the info, this will help track down the
problem. It's obvious that some other program you have
installed previously also used LCocx, but that it was an
older version of LCocx. Could you do me a favor, and do a
search of your hard drive for LCocx, and tell me where all
LCocx related files are. I'm guessing that perhaps the
older LCocx files are in a different directory than
System32, and that Windows is searching there first and
finding the older LCocx stuff. Given this info, I'll be
able to replace the older files with the newer files, when
they are present on a person's machine.

One really puzzling thing is why it still says "Character
Organizer 1.0 Beta" on that error screen... odd. That's
why I thought you had an older version, even though you
don't...

Thanks so much for the info, Thorin!

Hello Thorin, and all those still having LCocx problems:

The newest release, version 1.2, *should* fix any LCocx
issue you are having. I have previously updated the link
above and I know that it downloads the correct v1.2 (I just
tested it to make sure). So, please download the new
version, uninstall your previous version (just for good
measure) and then install v1.2 - it should work!

If you download and install v1.2 and it still gives you the
LCocx error (or any other error), PLEASE let me know your
exact error message, if possible, and also give me the
details of your system, specifically what version of
Windows you're running.

Also, for anyone who has downloaded and successfully
installed the program, could I get some constructive
criticism? What are your likes, dislikes and suggestions
for this thing? I have a few ideas for improvement myself,
but I bet some of you out there have even better ideas.
Thanks!

Thanks for everyone's patience in this LCocx matter. I
hope everyone has a GREAT New Year!

Posted by Thorin ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2002-12-30 18:27:00
Hmm , mr Sodabob , the lcocx problem persists. Says
program is version 1.0beta ?

Posted by "Soda" Bob Curtis ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2002-12-24 06:45:00
"Hail ta ye!"

For everyone having "LCocx" issues of any sort, I have
found the problem and seem to have fixed the issue.
Accordingly, I have updated the download above; please
download the new installer, uninstall your current version
(for good measure) and reinstall using the new installer
version. It should work just fine for you after that.

Sorry I didn't get back to you all sooner, I was gone over
the weekend and I was deathly ill yesterday - couldn't even
sit up to use the computer :( Thanks to all of you who
took the time to download the software and try it, even if
it didn't work... please let me know if you have further
problems, or any gripes or suggestions on how to make the
application better.

BTW, I did upload the corrected installer onto NWVault just
a few minutes ago; however, you may not be able to
download the new version until NWVault does their daily
updates of their downloads database. So, if you download
the file and have the same problem with it again, you may
not have got the newest installer. If this happens to you,
please try again later today, or in a day or so, when they
are certain to have made updates to their database.

Happy holidays, all!
