Want to rename mdl/plt files easily? This program will not only rename them but also parse the files and change any internal notations as well. :) I originally made this program for other purposes but added this ability and thought some of you might enjoy it. Especially those making races based on the current ones. I based this program off of a freeware program called the same, I wanted it to do more so... UPDATE! two bug fixes: one I made it no longer try to rename internally for plt, tga,??? files. If rename internal had been choosen previously for plt files I found them crash the game. other bug is minor: the change ext sub parts were rely on change prefixs status to whether they were enabled or not when checking the changeext box. UPDATE! 1.2 - fixed some issues with renaming folders and also files with multiple extensions(uses last extension as true extension now)

This is *exactly* what I have been looking for. New users, make sure to read the brief help file to figure out how to configure things in order to rename any instances of the file name within the actual file itself. Very handy for clothing, helms, weapons, etc. Thanks Phalzyr, this will save me loads of time.

I love your program! What a shame it doesn't rename plts internally as well... I've been having a hard time opening them up in notepad and getting it to read properly. Its as if I don't have the proper font, since all I get are boxes. :P Any ideas, anyone?

Thank you thank you thank you! You just save me what would have probably been two days worth of ham-handed hand editting! You rock!
I have a little request to your fantastic program :)
You should add an option for not alter, the texture refeence, I explain :
In the .mdl files the textures are call with the line "bitmap pfh0_chest001".
Actually your Renamer alter this file too.
It were fantastic if this line could be unaltered, so I would not oblige to create a new texture for the new renamed .mdl file.
I hope you understand what I mean, but that would not be complicate to add on the source code, I suppose.

It works, but maybe there should be mentioned (for idiots like me) you've first to decompile the files.
Great tool! THX

Sorry, but this tool don't work by bodyparts. If you rename a chest or pelvis mdl the file shrinks and the NWN Explorer crashes when you try to look whether all changes are right.
Just wanted to say: Yes, it does do what I thought and more... this little program has saved me hours of tedious labor. If you're tricky with the options, you can get it to do other things for you as well (like search for certain tilefading references in an entire tileset and change them to a different value).
Dam'n, you realize exactly what I was searching yesterday over the internet ! God bless you, you did it ! Thanks, that will certainly help many people, simple programm but really usefull !
:D hope you like it. as an example I just recently made races based off the dwarf, human, etc. I took all the human mdl files dumped in a dir told this proggy to rename("alter prefix") pfh to pft, and a minute or two later I had a new race exactly the same as humans. :D Of course it tok a bit longer to alter what I wanted to be different between the two races but a lot less time overall and a lot less hassel :-). I'm thinking of combining this with my parsing program, It looks at file name and sees if it is same inside and fixes if not, but I'd probably rewrite its code to work more user freindly before I do that. right now that proggy takes to much user know how, it is fine for me but to release... I'd get way too many emails probably... oppps that reminds me I put know contact info in the help area :o
If this does what I think it does, then I'm going to be extremely happy... Even with "Rename All" in text editor, opening each file to rename internally is a bit tedious.
Thanks!
