This program is totally legal to use. Anyomyous 1 ignorantly harassed anyone on the vault he could, he wasn't a lawyer for any of these companies, and was just harassing developers in an effort to feel self-important by pushing other people around. The makers of sims dont care about modding, in fact they encourage it, the only thing thier EULA doesnt allow is charging money for creations made using thier tools or ingame content.
If you make a head in Sims2 or find a cool one somone made, there is no reason you cant legaly convert it as long as you credit the original artist.

I'm so glad to announce the release of version1.1.
Hair Modeling has not been completed yet,
so I'll continue to make it.
However, I just want to say thank you so much.

This is a really great tool!
I think that it can enjoy headconverter more,if the kind of the hair modeling increases.
Will be there increasing the kind of the hair modeling in the future?
I propose to disclosure the resource of hair plug-in to the public,if it takes long time to make the hair modeling.
I want to challenge so that make various hair modeling.
Thanks for your cooperation.

But that's exactly what I did. I added both the mdl and the plt file to a hakpak, but for some reason the textures won't show up. There seems to be nothing wrong with the plt file, I opened it with NWN viewer and it looked alright...
Posted by Taina ( 212.57.xxx.xxx ) at 2005-01-29 13:50:00
The program should generate a PLT-file for head model (with the same name) and save them in the same folder.
They (MDL and PLT) should be added in your hakpak or copied into override.

Well, now the entire converting thing seems to work more or less, but now I have another problem: When I add the files to a module in a hakpak, the model will show up in the toolset, but without the textures. What am I doing wrong this time?

I solve "Improper file format" problem.
1) Make your own face by TS2BodyShop.
2) Run SimPe, open your own sim file.
(open "...My Documents\EA Games\sims 2\SavedSims" folder, you can find *.package file)
3) Select "Geomatric Data Container" and extract it.
4) Find extract file and rename it. (*.5gd -> *.simpe)
5) Run HeadConverter, open *.simpe file. (Maybe two simpe file, then select bigger v value file. See right window of Head Converter.)
Do you actually have to have Sims 2 installed, or is the Body Shop enough to work with? I'm somewhat confused by the instructions in the readme file, so I'm kinda guessing the things I'm not understanding are due to not having Sims 2 installed.

When I try open a sims2pack file,
I get error message too. "Improper file format"
What's wrong? How can i use this tool?
Posted by Melle ( 80.137.xxx.xxx ) at 2005-01-24 06:28:00
Well, that's exactly what I was looking for...
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work for me. When I try to open a packed sim by clicking the "extract"-button, I get an error message: "Improper file format!"
This also happens with the sample files included in the zip-file.
Any idea what's wrong?

If you didnt need to have SIMS2 installed then there wouldnt be an issue. But this tool id designed to rip stuff from one game into another using copyright material.
If it is designed and distributed as being able to convert "COMMUNITY" made heads etc and that it will convert into a NWN format and that it "CAN" but isn't designed to rip from the actual game then that is fine. The utility is not an illegal thing then it is the users activies that would be illegal if they then proceeded to take from a copyright game then distribute it's content.
It's like DVD and game piracy. The rippers are not illegal as they state that you can only use the software for personal purposes and not for copying and distributing. Just because you do not profit from something does not make it less illegal.
Hm, if I follow the readme everything is alright until the
"-check the gender (MUST COINCIDENT with gender your sim!), choice the Race and Hair;"
When I click the "hair"-box, it´s empty. The readme dont mention anything about putting some hair in a hair-folder or similar, so I suppose it should already be there somehow. Please explain to me what I´m doing wrong.

I think this is a really great program, I was wondering if you could write a tutorial or something so that we can make the hairs we have downloaded and made ourselves choseable from the drop down hair menu. That would be really awesome. Thank you for all your hard work!

I don't see where do you find any illegal practice on this. All SIMS2 heads belong to those that use them. IF this was illegal, then EVERY single modding would surely be illegal.
Posted by Anonymous ( 195.93.xxx.xxx ) at 2005-01-23 05:33:00
please dont take offence here. But I do think that this is highly illegal. Nice util and all but I think this may end up getting pulled down.
