This excel spreadsheet will help you pre-design you characters for Neverwinter Nights. I changed some of help information to reflect the changes to the spreadsheet. I added the new prestige classes from SoU, added a new worksheet to correctly handle skill progression and feats, and also changed the way the base attributes are entered (with a point counter so you know if you can really create the character). I have been pleasently supprised at the response this little thing has gotten, thanks. If there is anything else I can spruce up just let me know.

This is a great tool. Too bad I did not find it sooner. In fact I am going to delete my own file/sheets except for the one where I keep track of all my characters at once.
For one single char this is really great.
I also need some inventory tracking/mgt tool. If you have mutiple swords, shields, boots and/or rings you may want know quickly what item(s) are best vs a specific foe e.g. the cloack +3 (deflection) or the one with 5/- damage reduction? The weapon with electric damages or the one with cold damages? The greatsword +1/+2 vs undead or the hammer +1/+3 vs evil to defeat the skeleton warrior?
If these (calculations) are automated perhaps you can concentrate on role-playing and forget about these stuff.
If your file does not handle this I will make a file that does.
dude whats your email i have done a expanded version of this let me know if you want to take a look at it maybe we can work on it a bit more as there are a few things i would like to add in

hey bank whats your email as i have added alot of content and expanded it to 40 levels for hotu
Looks great. Just wondering if there's any signs of a HoTU update. I'll glance over it and see if I can aid a little in expanding it. This saves me big over the time I was going to have to expend creating one myself. Good Job!

This is a compilation of the old system into a single score. There were 6 that made this score of 8.67 then rounded to 9.

Thanks for the comments!
JoeFaust and Hal, I am not sure about the HotU version yet. I haven't gotten the expansion (yet).
woerle, base armor class for any character is 10 + the Dex modifier (but not if caught flat footed). It doesn't change with level ups so I didn't include it.
I am working, albiet slowly, on an executable to manage this stuff. The spreadsheet is fine, but it definitely has limitations. No promises, but we'll see ;)

toadbat

Yes, an HoU version would be great, and I noticed that the skill spreadsheet charges a bard 2 points for Tumble. That is an in-class skill for bard.

that excel-sheet is really great! only one remark: i didn't find any value of the base armor class... do you plan to include this feature in a further version?

Nice work!
Any plans for a HotU version?

Just uploaded an update, fixed a few outstanding issues with some of the calculations.

Ok, had another error in the character attributes section. It's fixed now.

Ok, I had a few errors (thanks Flash), anyhow I think they are corrected now. Sorry for that. If you downloaded the file within the last two days you should get the new file.
If anyone else catches anything else wrong with the spreadsheets please e-mail me and I will fix it.
Suggestions are also welcome :)
Thanks,
toadbat

Here's the update! Woohoo!
Anyhow, the description cut me off, so here's some other information I wanted you all to have. Cheers.
Just so you know, this spreadsheet was designed so that you can tinker an workout ideas you have for characters. You fill out the boxes, then print out the readable data on the first and second worksheet. You can then use these printouts to help you both create your initial character, and then help you recall what exactly you wanted to do at each level up.
As I indicate in the help balloons, there is very little real validation occuring (I am slowly getting more here). So, if you want say...disarm, make sure you have the prerequisits for it. You will be a happy camper.

Ok, I finally picked up SoU. So, I will be working on an update that will include the prestige classes and new feats and skills.
It seems that there is enough interest for me to do this. I will make some major changes to the layout, and add a sheet for some extra user information (points for each skill per level and feats per level kind of stuff).
I also should be able to validate in some way the point distribution for the initial attribute points.
If any of you have any other ideas please let me know.

toadbat

Excellent Work. My spreadsheet skills seem to be a bit lacking, so this is a god-send. Any chance of an update with the prestige classes from SoU?

A good point, reflecting the attribute increases in the skill points. And I like those dropdowns and help notes too.
I've been working on my own Char Gen sheet, and it's rather simplistic. I started with the attribute point buy system, so I haven't incorporated attribute increases yet. And although I got the basics of Class skills worked out, it's lacking a check against max skill level as well as attribute increases. Hmm, it might help to switch to your character level layout rather than keep my 3 class layout. Although I might have to hide the point cost collumns other extra info. to make it usable.
If anyone wants to see what I've done so far, drop me an email.

Sorry you don't have Excel. I am getting a new dev platform soon, so maybe I can make this into an application that anyone can use.
A screen shot wouldn't do much for anyone.
Everyone else,
So, up to almost 600 downloads! How do you like it?

toadbat

Just in case someone is still interested in this, I updated the spreadsheet.
I included some help comments, and made all of the things I could into drop-down lists. It should help with getting the formulas to work right. I also changed the way the formulas for hp's, saves and skill points were allocated to reflect the attributes as they are increased at character levels 4, 8, 12, 16 and 20.
Regards and hope you all find it usefull,

"That nameless guy":
Not sure what to tell you. I will try and give you a quick run-down. I created the spreadsheet to help me plan what levels, feats, skills and attributes to take along my characters career path, as well as the initial character design. Basically I got tired of always consulting charts and fumbling through paper character designs. So, I created a spreadsheet to make it a bit easier.
I agree with Jacesen, it's simple; but, it's just a spreadsheet too.
Ok, on with a brief "tutorial":
Most of the fields should be self explanatory. Name, gender, Alignment, Deity; but for things to work right, you must type in the race and have it spelled correctly (see Data!I2:I8) this way the attributes are adjusted correctly. Title is really just a field that I use for myself to describe what kind of character I am going for (see the Concepts page for some examples, but it's not necessary to have one).
Make sure to enter the attribute scores in the C column, the E column scores will be adjusted for your race.
In the lower section type what class you want your character to take at each level. Next to the class (the C Column) needs to reflect the class level, so if at character level 1 you are a Fighter, your class level is also 1 then at character level 2 you choose to be a Cleric your class level will be 1 (this is the first time you chose Cleric). Then at the 3rd Character level you go back to Fighter the class level will be 2, OK?
Now idealy if you fill out the character classes and levels (after choosing race and attributes above) all of the hit point, base attack, saves etc. will be calculated for you.
The skills section below still needs to be automated, as does accounting for attribute changes and feats (all of which you can fill in, but there is no real automation occurring).
I will put in some drop-downs for the races and classes to make that part easier, and I will also try and get some of the other aspects automated. I expect to put an update up in a few weeks. I will also add some notes to the fields, and maybe a readme to help you out.
Jacesen:
Your correct, it's just a p'n'p replacement with some calculations to help work out some options when developing your characters. Nothing here to shock and amaze.

toadbat

Call me a nOOb but how do I use it?
Posted by Jacesen ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-02-21 12:58:00
Seems a little...'simple' Not much different then a pen
and a piece of paper for planning really.... but just my
opinion.
