Created as a replacement portrait for BG II NPC, Jaheira. This NPC was my daughter's favorite--my son just liked seeing the paperdolls w/o their armor. Well one day I referred to Jaheira as a 'corn-rowed donkey woman,' and said if I could figure out a way, I would change her portrait to anything that looked less equestrian. My daughter was indignant and said that I better NOT! I did figure it out, and one by one I changed them all. My daughter always hated this replacement (you may too), but it remains my favorite. To everyone bored by this series--this is it, no more. Next: something different.

Very nice work! But not quite Jaheira to me.

Oh, I see you won't do anymore BG pics. Too bad, maybe I should start some of there BG portraits, would be fun to do actually. :)

I think Jaheira was annoying as well. She wanted to date my male character one time in BG2 but I ditched her for Viconia. :)
I saw this portrait in a pack once and I honestly thought this was another version of Aerie. It's beautiful artwork and as always with your stuff I am too jealous for words. But I would never see her as Jaheira though. She doesn't have that, "Yes? Oh omnipresent authority-figure" look in her eyes.
But while you're at it: how about a new pic for Haer'Dalis?

I liked Jaheira...and she didn't moan that much. People just don't understand one's emotions after their love has died. Besides, his body was desecrated by Irenicus. Seesh, people play games based on D&D and whine whenever there is actual drama or roleplay involved=P.
Anyway, I wouldn't use it for Jaheira, but I definately like the pic. Good job.

To me, this doesn't look like the Jaheira I knew -- I think she just doesn't quite seem cocky enough...perhaps too vulnerable. But that doesn't take away from the mastery of this piece. It would make a very good elven priestess, princess, or perhaps even a queen.

I love the portrait, though I do have to say that she doesn't strike me very much as being the Jaheira type; she looks pretty civilized, perhaps a Paladin or a Cleric. Doesn't really scream "druid" to me. But no matter, great work!

This is a compilation of the old system into a single score. There were 33 that made this score of 8.12 then rounded to 8.

I didn't labor too hard over how to render the individuals in this series; I just had a thought and went with it. It wasn't until I had the whole lot done that I saw my own biases and idiosyncrasies play out--like big eyes, stoic expressions and short hair.
About the elven-types: Viconia's long hair is blown back; Jahiera's is pulled into a french braid; and Aerie's is in a single long braid. Maybe it's a cop-out, but I imagine adventuring females would be very practical about their hairstyling.
And thanks for thinking *any* of my work is up to Bioware's standard.

I must say, your portraits are awesome, but like your Nalia, Jaheria just isn't as good as the Biowar original. Why is it that in ALL of your ports, all the women have short hair? Especially the elves? I can understand Imowen, Mazzy and Nalia, but Viconia, Jahera and Aerie are supposed to have long, elven hair. Oh well...
*awaits your next work*

Did Jahiera ever shut up! I mean, all she ever did was moan, moan, moan. My husband's been killed by an evil wizard, Boo hoo! Because I'm a tree-hugging druid, I won't allow him to be reincarnated. Boo hoo!
I mean, Aerie moaned as well, but at least she was quite charming when she was in a good mood. Jahiera got on my tits.

Hmm, this one doesn't do it for me. Not like the other one's of Sporeboy!'s I've seen.
Not a bad painting per se, I just don't think it's as good as his others. It looks too artificial, his other work all looks more 'real'.
Just my nickle.

Heya sporeboy, I saw this portrait on the front page and just realized that I'd never commented on yours before...but they're all fantastic stuff, without doubt the best ones I've seen and easily rival the stuff we've seen from Bioware and Black Isle's artists. Keep up the great work.

Note to Jacen Saracen: spoeboy! has already done his Viconia. And for all of you dissenters out there this is sporeboy's Jahiera, not yours.

SB, you are one heck of an artist, dont care where you get your motivation (BG art or otherwise) just keep these hi qual beauties coming (maybe a half orc for some non-beauty??)

Well to be honest, I do like the original portrait of Jaheira better, but this gives her a much more 'matronly' feeling, which seems more appropriate for her character.
One thing though. You might want to smooth out the lines on her neck and face. They're not very visible, but they do annoy me just a little bit. :)

Incredible reimagining of the BG characters. Your pictures have a gritty realism that the BG portraits do not. Although, in their own right, the Bioware portraits were not SUPPOSED to be all that realistic. I see your portraits almost as actors who are playing these characters in a realistic movie portrayal.
Bioware's portraits = romanticized
Your's = real
Can't wait to see what you do with Minsc and Sarevok! Or better yet, Viconia. Now there's a drow I'd like to see in a much more realistic light. The Bioware portrait is great, but maybe TOO human. She needs to be a little more foreign. But anyways, I ramble on and on and on....
Great work!

Don't let the complaints get you down. Your pics are magnificent. (As somebody who actually does draw, I can appreciate the work that goes into these.) Personally, I like a little pencil every now and then - it's art, not a photograph. The coloring gives nice depth, and the features are individualized. I'm in awe. :)

"Oh, kind of like a bard could have an instrument"
Not at all :) The point was that the picture portrays her as a thoughtful and somewhat passive character; not the Jaheira I know and love. She is a passionate, often angry, character that believes in action. The weapon was the simplest way I could think of giving this impression, as the inclusion of the quarter-staff did in the BG1 portrait. The 'fighter' comment was only an afterthought.
And if that was a sneaky reference to my Denny portrait, then might I add that his main instrument is his voice, and I have trouble drawing voices ;)

"...I sort of wonder why you bothered to repaint Jaheira. She was by far oe (sic) of the best portraits in the series."
If my daughter put you up to this, she's grounded.
"...as with all of your pictures thus far, I think you overused those sort of pencil linse (sic)..."
Every time the pencil-point touched the paper, it left a mark. Imagine my surprise!
"Perhaps a weapon in the pic would give that effect (emphasise the fighter druid in her a little as well)."
Oh, kind of like a bard could have an instrument;)
