OK, this one is NOT from an original drawing. I'm working on some of those right now, but in the meantime I thought I would try out this whole 'paint over the photograph' thing, just to see how it worked. This portrait is probably of best use as an NPC, as the way I've done her (Hagia Sophia spires in the background) she is more of a city lady, probably appropriate (in the Forgotten Realms) for Amn, Calimshan or Tethyr, or the Chondath and Chessenta regions. But she could also be a priestess, wizard, sorcerer or bard. Let me know what you think!
Update: Took the highlights off the hair so hopefully she doesn't look like she's got horns anymore. :-) New files do *not* replace old files.
This is a compilation of the old system into a single score. There were 13 that made this score of 7.85 then rounded to 8.

Um, actually it's not. I didn't even know who Nelly Furtado was until you said that, but Google solves many woes. Actually the original photo was of a blonde model, probably in her late 20's, from a full page magazine ad for a clothing line called Chico's. You can see a different photo of the same model here. I altered the original photo significantly.

That's Nelly Furtado! You can't fool me!

This picture is gorgious. I hope the large scale is as good as the thumbnail

Thanks for the comments! This is my first attempt at doing any color work in close to ten years--and prior to that I'd done maybe ... five paintings in my whole life? I'm really just a Sunday morning doodler playing around with my new toy... :-) I'm learning all sorts of things, though, so hopefully I will get better.

Good job, seems you are improving each time, so keep it up!

After finishing this, I though about perhaps doing it with a night sky background--darker, as you suggest. I think I will also tone the highlights in her hair way down. I keep catching myself thinking she's got horns or sunglasses on top of her head. ;-) I can still tell I did this from a photograph because I just wouldn't draw the face that way, even if I was looking at the magazine photo. But overall I don't think she turned out too badly. My favorite thing on the picture is her earrings. Those are my original art. (The robe is, too, but... it's not as interesting as the earrings to me.)

I find this very challenging. The care taken to create a natural feel really shows through. Maybe the background needs to be a little darker?
