Thought there had been a lot of women recently, so here is a guy. Again, this is designed as an NPC portrait. He could be a guard, a man on the street, or even a young noble. He is not dressed for the heat of battle, and so just wears a baldric to carry his sword. This particular version has him left-handed, but you could always mirror the image if you want him right-handed. Original art; to borrow sporeboy's phrase, 'no photos were harmed in the making of this portrait.' ;-)
Update: apparently PSP7 has a little bug with targa compression. ;^P Resaved in Photoshop. Hopefully no in-game save problems now.
This is a compilation of the old system into a single score. There were 22 that made this score of 7.90 then rounded to 8.

I know you say you designed this as an NPC portrait, but I think this is one of the best custom portraits that I have seen and I'm currently using it for my fighter/bard.
Kudos!

Yes, the little mark over his left shoulder is a sig. It ended up running into his baldric a little after I painted it in. I will probably fix that (along with a couple of other things) at some point to make it look less like a squashed bug. ;-)

is the little mark on his left shoulder a signiture?

My modules portraits will look very much like the portraits in NWN, the very painted feeling. You know, smudged.
Your portrait is a little to "drawed?" to fit into my module, but as i said, it is very good, but unfortunately my module calls for different portraits :)

Thanks guys. I really (really) appreciate the feedback. (G'windinel... Wha's hangin'?) ;-)
Ah, yes I see it (now that you point it out), about the neck. This was sort of an odd photo I found in last years' yearbook: it only had from the upper lip upwards of the face--ah student photographers! But it had captured this interesting expression--I think the student was looking at a computer somewhat askance--and that's what caught my eye.
Overall, though I find it very hard to draw while looking at life/references. (My art teachers loved still-lifes and I hated them with a passion--the still-lifes, that is.) I sort of have to try it without looking, then check to see if it looks right, and then futz with it until it does, and then remember that model in my head. The good part is, once I get it in there, I don't need any more references. The bad part is, it takes a long time to build a good 3D model in my head complete with lighting effects. ;-)

Very well-made portrait. Intersting angle and expression. This one shows a good bit of polish.
G'Windinel is right about the neck. The sternocleidomastoid should run from the clavicle/sternum (it has two heads) to the base of the skull, behind the jaw. You've modeled the shape pretty well, but overall, the muscle needs to skew to the left so its outlines converge to a point just behind the ear.
Again, good work.

Howz ya bin?
I have been sitting here enjoying your work. For the second time! The first time something troubled me about it, as good as it is. Now I think I know what the problem is, I hope. Nothing to do with ears, asymmetry is quite common in this. ( One of the reasons I like your work so much, actually.)
See what you think: The neck is slightly out of proportion to the face? IE the line of the jaw is not inkeeping with the "strength." Small point I know.

Hi Kandelai,
Nope, looks like this one is my fault. In fact, looks like *all* my portraits are hosed for some reason. I get the same problem. If I try to save with one of the portraits on a character the save screen freezes, and NWN crashes. I tried resaving the portrait in photoshop and now it works fine. Normally I do most of my work in PSP7. Seems that their Targa compression is screwy somewhere. I will update this one shortly and then go back and fix all my portraits. Once I've updated this one, have another download and let me know if it works ok.

This is an excellent portrait, however it is causing my system to crash when I try to save games.
I upgraded to SoU today, so I do not know if it has something to do with the new expansion pack or issues with the format of your picture(s). It is very strange.

Maybe instead of getting his hair cut, he had his ears lowered? (ok, now I'm confused... and I had my caffeine this morning...)

And, btw, it's not that his LEFT ear is too high. For the angle of his head, his RIGHT ear is too low. And now I will shut up.

You know, after I uploaded this I looked at it and went, "well, dang it, I think that ear is too high". ;-) That's an easy fix, though. I might just do that and update.
Ironically, my reference for the features was a photograph of a student who graduated from the school where I teach--and he is a very good actor. He played the part of Horatio in a school production of Hamlet.
Apricane--what sort of style is your module (just out of curiosity?)

Although I think his left ear is a little too high, this is your best yet! Good Job!
I do imagine that if this guy were to be cast in a NWN movie, though, he wouldn't be able to act his way out of a paper bag. He kinda reminds me of that young guy in Pearl Harbor. Harnett? ;-)

This is a very good portrait! Unfortunately, the style of the portrait doesnt fit into my module... ); Otherwise, I would have downloaded it for sure. Im giving you a 9
