This is my first attempt at creating a custom portrait. Lena is a NPC in a private module, which i play with a few friends every other week. The base image is the charming Holly Marie Combs. I've basically repainted the whole thing, tried to relight it and added the heart-shaped necklace. I didn't add more stuff, like a dress or something, because I didn't want to make it too different for me. :p I've had no experience with Photoshop before, so please feel free to comment on my mistakes, what could've been done better etc.

Pretty good -- a few things don't seem to quite fit in, but this probably won't be noticeable at NWN portrait sizes. _________________________ Time Becomes a Loop - short, story-driven time travel mod!

Great first try, but she doesn't seem much like an adventurer or like she belongs in a fantasy universe at all. However, a great first portrait!

I like the rendering but it doesn't have a fantasy feel to it. She looks like she might be one of the charmed sisters.
Maybe she needs more medieval looking clothing and less modern jewelry?
Oh, I particularly like her nose its smudged well.

This is an outstanding rework of a photo!
For not having lengthy experience with Photoshop, you certainly have the knack for it.
Yes, the necklass could use a bit of shading added down one side of each part of the chain, but that is hardly noticable when looking at the rest of the portrait.
To add shadows you can either use black, or use the color dropper pickup tool to get the darkest skin color (maybe from the dark area on her right shoulder) and then use the brush tool set at about 12% and set to darken.
Then just follow along where you thing the shadows would fit."Me Go Beer!" - Mr. Dave _________________________ Me go beer!

Yeah, I agree about the lack of shadows and they would certainly help to intergrate the necklace with the rest of the picture. Also another area for improvement is the dress, which looks like a bit of a half-hearted attempt? It may be only a small area, but you just can't ignore it... Finally, I don't think the dark sky in the background fits particularly well with our well-lit character in the foreground. Other than that, smashing job. - I tried to change, but I changed my mind -
