I really like the lighting. I'm a pro photographer and it's what I always notice first. The bluish cast of the lighting gives it a meaningful aesthetic mood. Good musculature without going overboard so he looks like some ripped bodybuilder type. Regarding other comments: I think a background would be a distraction. Often in portraiture a background is intentionally blurred or darkened to give more focus to the subject. Also, the lack of background lets the player fit him to his character. Put too much info in a portrait and it's a shoe that's harder to fit. I've passed on a few for my characters because the clothing/weapons/whatever just didn't fit.

The only appreciable thing here I can see as needing improvement is texture. The surface of the skin seems very smooth and the color seems a bit blotchy. Maybe some sharper edges in the image might add some definition.

I like the portrait a lot. It allows a lot to be read into it ( it he evil or what? praying or plotting?), so there's a lot of possibilities for it. Interesting char idea, too.
