I tried to get more of a realistic landsknecht look to this guy. The armor is from a museum photo, the head is from an oil painting (cannot recall artist, sorry), and I painted the bakground in Photoshop. Enjoy :)
I have to agree with you Phaere. I originally wanted the armor to stand out from the rest of the garb, but unthinkingly smudged out the added noise in the armor, while leaving it in the cloth, leather, and skin.
The sad part is, the armor in the original museum photo was horrible, and I ended up overcompensating for that.
Eventually (meaning withing a year) I will rebuild this portrait, but it will definitely not look like what you see here. Then again, with me portraits are a craps shoot. They either come out quite pleasing, or come out looking like something that would be in the [blocked] category."Me Go Beer!" - Mr. Dave _________________________ Me go beer!

I think the armour stands out too much in comparison to the clothing and the head. It is perhaps too shiny and has a different light-source than the rest. But I like the type of character, and he stands well in the background. It's a good idea to use pieces of paintings.

Darius,
I was thinking the same thing after I cropped it.
Originally, the entire portrait was about twice the size, with him leaning back in a relaxed position in his pike, with his front hand resting on his waist. It looked like a normal position then. But now it looks as if he is cringing away from the viewer.
I guess I shouldn't have cropped it that close. Well, I guess I shouldn't have cropped it that close and saved the .PSD work file. Then I could have at least updated it and added some of the spear shaft to explain the stance. DOH!"Me Go Beer!" - Mr. Dave _________________________ Me go beer!

I believe the value is a slight bit off on the armor compared to the person.
Different and cool.

Very nice, though he's a bit out of place in a tranquil and serene lake. I can much see him more in a city or palace.

Wow! And I love the background. It's so detailed! Wish I could do that.
One small thing...the head and helmet don't seem to be quite at matching angles. Maybe it's me?
