I felt that there was a lack of good Shadowdancer-portraits on the vault so I decided to take my chance. Furthermore I realized that I was probably the only person who had not yet posted a 'babe-portrait'. ;) Head-model on this one is Jessica Alba who is playing Invisible-Woman in the upcoming 'Fantastic 4' adaptation. Hope you like her. All votes and comments appreciated.

I'm surprised. I honestly cannot stand blatant celebrity pic manipulations, except as a little humor (I don't like to make fun of famous people, simply if it turns out humorous).
This really works well. Very well done!

the shadows make her right eye look kinda distorted, but otherwise great work:)
Wow, thank's a lot! All those commendatory words from such gifted people! :) That really means a lot to me.
Yet, I'm never totally satisfied with the portraits myself and I see what you mean, Phaere. There are a dozen things about the lighting (and other elements) that could still be improved but in the end I was going for atmosphere rather than realism because I'm really quite lazy. ;)

Hmmmm ... it's superb work, you're becoming on of my favourite artists here on the vault, Selvan. I really like this picture a lot, but ... (there must always be a but :D)
there is something nagging me here, and I can't figure out what. I have been staring at it for a while now, does nothing good for my eyes, but maybe it is something with the lighting that seems kind of off. Now I am not very good at lighting, so I couldn't tell you exactly what seems wrong, I just don't know. There is something not right. Oh, and the left arm looks fine, I only noticed the arm doing 'nothing 'when you mentioned it in your post.
Anyway, she's really lovely. You have a nice soft style and you manage to create such varied characters all the time. Truly impressed. ;)

You PAINTED her collarbone? Now I really AM feeling unworthy. Beautiful work.
@elandys: That's a nice way to see it. Thank you :)
@Olivia: I did the background myself with Corel Photopaint. Hard to describe because I'm not familiar with the English terms but I'll try (some disillusionment coming up I guess):
First step: Stars and a white disc.
Second step: Created a radial mask with increasing opacity towards the white moon-disc.
Third step: Flooded the canvas (100% tolerance) with an adjusted cloud-effect of (I think) 50% opacity.
That's it. I was wondering if I should add some texture to that moon, but when I tried it became too dark.
BTW: The moon was much easier to do than her neck and collarbones. It's SO hard to get it right if you paint it without using photographs.
Her left arm? It's misdirection - while you keeping an eye on the knife she's resting her right hand on, she's readying a couple of throwing knives behind her back. :D
It's a very very very good portrait. I really like her as a shadowdancer, very appropiate. And the hands are ok. I like the knife too.
Very good, Selvan. Kudos :)

Nice background! Did you do it yourself or find it? If you made it yourself, I'm especially curious how you got the moon to look appropriately moonlike.
