Title  Portrait of an elven lady
Author  Sagadur
Submitted / Updated  12-31-2004 / 01-17-2005
Category  NPC
Gender  Female
Format  BioWare Standard
Description
In this case, portrait could be taken literally because the contrast between the lady and the background gives it the touch of a painted portrait (even if the brushstrokes are missing)at least when I look at it from a distance. I think she is more appropriate for a NPC, so I put her in this section. But maybe someone would like to play her personally.

Well here is a little work over:

- The lady now does have a left shoulder.
- I hope the eyes are now looking straight and have a little more life (due to slightly reworked highlights).

And if you like her better now: give your thanks to Selvan ;-).

Thank you again - I will look into it.

As I'm not a native english speaker myself, I'm not too sure about the term 'squinting' either...

What I meant was: Try to see both of her eyes simultaneously and imagine an object she could be focussing. That object would be merely inches away from her face (mostly because of the fact that you see quite a big part of the furthermost white cornea of her left eye - on our right-hand side).

My advice would be: Try to make her eyes look 'real' with respect to perspective. When seen sideways, pupils and irises should become more elliptical. I'd also add some more highlights to accentuate the eye's moisture.

Anyway: It IS beautiful :)

First, thanks a lot for your thoughts, Selvan.

It's allway a little fight to bring oneself to work on a picture labeled as "finished" but as I'm not totally happy with it too I may use your suggestions for good purpose (but it could need some time).

Specifically to your comments:
1) I don't know if I get the meaning correctly - do yu mean she is about to close her eyes a bit (not a native english speaker and thus not sure about "squinting").
2) Her body is turned away from the viewer but you are right a little bit of left shoulder could help a lot (thanks).
3) The fragile and delicate was totally on purpose. As I paint just for relaxing and the fun of it, I selsom aim for an apropriate D&D-look but mostly have my own world in my head. But you are definetly correct it is (almost?) to pointy to be real but making her very delicate (even for a female elf) was the main goal of this picture (I would have liked to call the picture "beauty" but that's used far to often and by the way depending heavyly on personal opinion).

So let's see when I'll give her a bit of shoulder ;-).

Great detail and colors on the hair. Very unique style of portrait. The angle of her left eye is slightly off.

I'm glad to be the first one to comment on this portrait because I think it's extremely well done. I can imagine why many users are still indecisive about it: Something's strange here. I'm not nearly certain, what it is. These are my guesses:

1) Her eyes are slightly squinting
2) Her shoulders appear very slim (which could be due to perspective - but still...)
3) Her elven ear appears very thin and fragile and too pointy to be natural

This results in a very uncommon elven look (for D&D).
Still, I think that the sheer beauty and calmness of this portrait (especially the soft lighting) are truly stunning.
