Ahhh, who can resist a girl who worships spiders? Markessa is all suited up and ready for some serious evil! I stole the face from some nameless model. The hands belong to my neice who was kind enough to pose for a photo. Pretty much everything else was hand painted in photoshop (I'm getting bored of surfing the net looking for the perfect armor). UPDATE: Changed cloak clasps from skulls to spiders as per feedback. Fixed hair which was a little flat.
Nice work. It's delightful to see reasonably good-lookind protraits nowdays... especially drow. She does have a peculiar aura of mistery about her... cool "web design"... :)

This is a great portrait. Can I add it to a portrait pack for my persistent world? _________________________ "'The time has come,' the Walrus said, 'to talk of many things: of shoes - and ships - and sealing wax - of cabbages - and kings - and why the sea is boiling hot - and whether pigs have wings.'"

Oooh, really like the update, nice work. The hair definately has improved. I will be watching for further portraits from you.
Yeah, I think the coloring is the biggest problem because obviously if you're absolutely true to the description (ie coal black skin) you end up with a rather dull picture. I like the idea of the spider clasps instead of the skulls. For some reason I was obsessed with getting skulls on her somehow. I think I will incorporate the suggestions both of you have made though. I think this pic is deserving of a little more work, although I knew I was asking for trouble as soon as I started making a drow :)

Good Drow portraits are hard to come by, and this one is getting there imo. I get the impression the colouring of Drow skin makes it difficult to get a good result. Re the spider thing, maybe change the skull clasp on the cloak to a spider?
Thanks for the comments, Madned. I tried a bunch of ways to give her armor a more spidery feel but everything I did made her look like Spiderwoman :). I settled for a little subtle "web design" on her lower armor.

striking image.
nice work blending the face and body and using the recoloration to hide any mismatching.
good details in general. the scales on the armor seem a little flat, but that only shows up in the large image. it should pass under portrait sized view. amazing depth on the skulls.
a motif question.
if she's a spider gal where's the spider motifs? scales=reptilian skulls=necromancy. you've got the webbing which is classic, but i'm not sure it's enough to drive a character portrait like this.
all in all excellent though.
