Asian falconer. Painted over photo of Natasha Yi using Gimp. Composed other photos of katana, gauntlet, falcon, and background. First real effort at portraits, besides just resizing, recropping. Comments and advice appreciated.[added version without bird]
Huge and large portraits, cropped to remove bird. Just extract over previous files (replacing two of them). Medium, small, and tiny already avian-free.
Well, definitely, I don't make a cent, but conceivably by posting it on an ad-supported site the vault does, or a PW if its offered as their content and has a commercial aspect. Dunno, just think I worked hard enough on it to say it's not what it was originally.

Robert de Niro as Lord Nasher? That's interesting. Nice link, ADK.
Thanks for the version without the falcon, Mr. Gend. ;-)

Ah, I am happy with that newer version! :) I agree with you, it's great to add personality to a character with a hobby but sometimes as a builder it's hard to fit the hobby with the NPC we want to assign the portrait to. But I really liked the expression on her face.
Here is my vote!
I wouldn't want you to take copyrighted pictures for portrait... You would then have to remove them from the Vault if Sony Pictures or whoever owns the copyright were to find out about it... that would be a pain in the you-know-what to remove your portraits from my mod! All the artists I borrowed portraits or pictures from have given me their approval by e-mail. That way I'm sure I don't get in trouble later on. On the other hand, there are ways to modify some portraits with a good tool like Photoshop. I unfortunately don't know anything about other programs... :/
Thank you for being open to suggestions and for your extra work on that second version of your portrait!

Added a version without the bird. Despite a lot of work, bird remains a little flat and photo-esque. Advice from veterans on smudging/dodging/burning funny textures (feather, fur, silk, metal, wood, for starters)? Small intricate patterns?
Had tried her with a shield instead of a bird but it didn't look right: partly technical inadequacy on my part with the perspective, partly the boring back of the shield, partly a raised shield with a face turned away.
Oh, and ADK: I found a few screen captures or stills from movies Hero, Crouching Tiger, Hannibal and Memoirs of a Geisha that might work for you re asian portraits; don't know when I'll get around to painting them. Think I got them all at imdb.com. Copyrighted, obviously.
Thanks for the support. Two of the main challenges I'm encountering are: 1) learning the tools and techniques, and 2) trying to translate Photoshop tips into Gimp. Anybody with useful suggestions along those lines, please post! Suppose I might spring for Photoshop eventually.
Thought about Kunoichi when doing it, eagerly awaiting the next installment. Have a couple more Asians I'm working on, so keep checking. Hopefully I'll get better.
Regarding the falcon: really I just wasn't up for reposing her, and that outflung arm (original photo she was leaning with elbow and palm on wall in front of her) was a bit of a dilemma. One thing that does makes portraits a bit more interesting to me is when there is more going on than just a face staring out at you. A little story in the portrait itself--a moment captured in time, a hobby, a timeout from adventure--helps bring characters alive for me. So I spend a while composing the image and imagining the possibilities.
Cheers

I'd also like a version without the bird. Apart from that, a nice portrait.

I like it very much! A version without the falcon would be good too! :) If you can, keep making asian portraits! If you have Photoshop, a bit of Smart Blur will give more of a "portrait effect" :) ... _________________________ ADK
