Love portraits that take a moment in time, the realities of adventuring that we rarely consider, the contradictions of people. So I couldn't resist this photo for a paintover, composite with photos of armor, katana, barrel, other graphics for beholder, background, web.
Tried to emphasize the incongruity of the dingy horrible barbarity of adventuring with the stately quiet civility of the tea ceremony. Also tried to minimize scaling and loss of detail between the only two protrait sizes that really get much use in-game (medium and large).
Sitting/leaning on barrel. I tried this time to focus on the two sizes (medium, large) that you actually see extensively in-game, and to avoid reduction and loss of detail as much as possible, especially with respect to those sizes. Result was more "story" in the huge version, more interpretation of perspective and light perhaps than I'm competent to handle. Overall it works, I think, but I agree the armor and pose do make it a little hard to see line and lengths of shin and thigh.
Had a lot of work to do on the armor; given level of detail and intricacy, does it still look like a photo? Did a little research, but still ended up guessing a bit as to undergarments, lengths of gauntlet pieces, etc. Believe under armor they wore a short, short-sleeved robe, which you can see a bit at neck. Next time I do samurai armor I may just paint it all myself. Might be easier to make an invention look real than to make these fantastic realities look right.

Yeah, I like it. The hair worked good this time. I can't quite figure out the lower part though. Does she sit on or stand in a barrel?
