This is Serendur Atanaryon, a Dúnadan character of a friend who also plays on the Untold Tales of Tolkien II server Link. This is mostly to make up for my earlier, utterly feeble attempt at a portrait for him, which I seem unable to delete from the vault. But here you go :) .
It's a digital painting done from reference, but not *to* reference (That is, it's supposed to similar to, but not *be* the subject of the original reference photo). A little sketchy, but I think it says what needs to be said.

I second Sgiathach's statement: Now here's a REAL Dúnadan ranger... Personally, I think ... damn, can't remember his name now... you know, the guy who played Elrond in the movies... would be a far better Aragorn than eh... can't remember Viggo's surname either. :-D _________________________ best regards,

I like that one a lot. This is how a Dúnadan Ranger should look like. It's actually quite close to how I imagined Aragorn (before the movies at least).

Sorry for the low vote. I thought you'd just Oil Paint filtered it. have a few more for doing it the hard way. _________________________ Stuff I've done.
Thanks for your comments. Yes, it is based on a photo of Clint Eastwood, and yes, I did paint it myself. When I say I used photoshop, most people assume that means taking a photo and stylising it, but in fact the method I use is almost exactly the same as oil painting or pencil sketching; you look at a reference photo and you paint what you see, starting with blocks of colour and adding light, shadows, detail and tone wherever it's needed.
However, though is is supposed to be someone who looks like Clint (because that was what I was asked to do by the player whose character it's for), it is NOT him, just a lookalike Ranger of the North.
If you look at the vault, the huge majority of portraits are direct photo manipulations of celebrities and models, requiring half an hour tops of adding photoshop filters or clipping bits out of other pictures to add them in. This is not what I do.
So please no-one vote me down on the fact that I used Clint Eastwood for my reference, because that's what I was asked to do! (if your low vote's for other reasons, that's fine, but I'd really appreciate if you explained why it deserves a low score)
Cheers ;)

Clint Eastwood is one of the greatest actors in history. Wouldn't use him as an NWN portrait though. Anyway, if you really painted that yourself, then that's an impressive work.
