Just an area made with the Mines&Caverns Tileset in the Toolset. 32x32 size with some area transition door (no transitions though) already there. DM's/Module Creators use as you see fit.

Yeah, I can't for the life of me figure out why so many people complain about areas being so system-intensive. I've been running NWN on a P3-700 w/about half a gig of RAM and an ol' GeForce256 and have *never* had any trouble loading HUGE maps into the toolkit, let alone any module area, OC or otherwise.
People need to learn how to turn off the "render every individual blade of grass" in their settings, or stop complaining.
Epic areas are great for single playr or stand alone modules (: when you start running Persistant Worlds having smaller areas works much better. All the areas I use in my PW are 10x10, 5x10, or 10x5 this allows for good building and enough space for things to happen. sometimes I design an area using a 20x20 area and cut it into 4 parts but the load times increase dramatically on slower systems. _________________________ Cheers,

This is a compilation of the old system into a single score. There were 1 that made this score of 9 then rounded to 9.

I use a very modest PIII 733 with a geforce 2, and the epic sized areas still work fine. Slightly below recommended specs, So I suspect the preset area sizes were made with load time in mind, once it's loaded they run just fine.

Thanks Lupin-III & Tarquinus, I guess I didnt take into
consideration that not everyone is running a P4 2.0Ghz or
AMD XP 2200 (like myself) with mucho DDR ram and high end
ATI/NVIDIA card(s). Will do more areas on the epic scale
and some scaled down versions as well.

I also base my areas off a 30x30 to 36x36 grid, wide open areas and cities both... even the cities fully populated with npcs and placeables run fine, with two other people in the game (most I've tried with). The level loading times are a bit long, but the gameplay is still fine. I've always been a fan of epic sized areas.

Whats wrong with larger areas? I runs games with areas of
32x32 and the are no issues at all with my players.

I think the area you used is too big. it could have been
cut into 2 or even 4 smaller areas with some transitions to
connect them.
