This is a recreation of the wondrous town of Skara Brae from the classic game 'The Bard's Tale'. It's divided into three areas for faster loading, and all ambient sounds have been placed with care.
Although I'd love to see someone re-create The Bard's Tale with this, this town is such that it could be used in any module where you're looking to just drop in a pre-made city that was crafted with patience and love. :)
This is a compilation of the old system into a single score. There were 5 that made this score of 7.80 then rounded to 8.

Well, don't know if you know this or not, but all the maps for Bard's Tale I - III are online ... Forget the link right now (and am at work) but do a search for it on google and you'll eventually get to it...

Figured that someone might have started to re-create the Bard's Tale in the NWN toolset! Was reading some of the other comments below and just had to chime in with my love for Bard's Tale. Boy I wish they had kept developing it, but I guess that gives us something to do now. :)
Anyhow...yes I too still have all the maps my dad and I made as we played it, on graph paper with everything marked up, etc. Probably could sell those on Ebay some day for thousands! :p
Gonna take a look at Skara Brae now. Can you still buy unlimited Fire Horns from Garth's?? :p

I've never played Bard's Tale, but I love this prefab. I
can't believe all the work you haf to have put into it. You
must have puts hours upon hours working on it. It is one of
the best layouts I have seen of any mod I have played. I
hope someone will take it and make a really great mod from
it. I'd love to play it. I don't have that kind of talent or
I would sure give it a go. It deserves the best. If anyone
does use this in a mod I hope they give you credit for the
great design work.

I've downloaded this and the excellent job you did has
inspired me to create Another Bard's Tale. I'm intent on
making a follow-up to Bard's Tale using NWN. It happens
after the heroes of Bard's Tale set off on the Destiny
Knight quest. A simple version is... Mangar's spirit
possess a mage who investigated Mangar's Tower and the
trouble starts all over again...
I have half of the inns finished, Garth and the store,
temple healing (for a price), all commoner's doors lead to
a single "house" which will have a chance for random
monsters (once the eternal winter spell is cast).
There are more "elements" in Skara Brae than the
original... hopefully more oppurtunities for roleplaying.
I want it to be similiar to Bard's Tale... but not
exact... for obvious reasons. Anyone who wishes to lend a
hand is welcome... especially for dungeon design.... but
ideas, Bard's Tale history, maps, etc. would help... to
email me... remove the -remove- from the email above.

Just thought i'd post what an excellent job you did on the
city, i loved Bard's Tale trilogy...i even dabled with the
construction set...although it isn't half as nice as NWN.
Your city did capture the feel, and i've gladly added it
to my world, as the starting human city. It is a welcomed
addition.
Realms of Darcadien, Persistant Roleplay world.
and no...i am not the creator of the ATS :p

oohh... you guys... i played Bard's Tale pretty intensly
back in college (yes the 80's)... i have ALL the dungeons
mapped on graph paper in EXTREME detail!!! everything's
marked.. the "Smoke" squares that blinds you, all
the "darkness areas" the spin-teleporters, the "regular"
teleporters (deprature and arrival squares marked also!)
anyone who wants to do the dungeons but is lacking detailed
maps, i'll send you photo-copies... i think i have all the
riddle's written down as well. i wish i was skilled with
the toolset for NWN, but i'm all thumbs! don't hesitate to
email me if you want to take on the project!
cheers!

This looks great! I cant imagine how much time you have
into creating this but it is much appreciated.

Wow... I am a huge Bards Tale fan... I just loaded up your
city and the atmosphere is great... One could do great
things with this... Good job!

Nicely done! Of course, it would be impossible to convert
the original city "as is", but you did it just the way I
would have -- focused on the "feel" of the city layout,
rather than the technicalities. (No one who ever played
The Bard's Tale will be lost here, that's for sure.) The
layout of the three areas is perfect, and I like how it
still leaves room for "expansion" in the central north and
south areas (which were empty of anything important in the
original game).
It's cute how you've got it snowing, even with green trees
and flowers! One might be tempted to think it's a
mistake, but in fact it's another nice touch -- most
people seem to forget that Skara Brae was supposed to be
trapped under a spell of "eternal winter." Also, the
atmosphere seems to get more intense as you move west
across the city -- did you intend that? -- it makes sense,
since the "dungeons" get progressively harder moving west,
too.
You know what would go perfect with this Skara Brae map?
That script someone released that lets you just build a
few houses, and then fills them with random items and
encounters -- and then make all the "empty" house doors
lead to 'em... that'd make it just like the classic game.
haha.

Very nice concept. Played this on a commodore 64 for
weeks... ONly version where you could continually cast the
bard songs and the effects would keep accumulating... VEry
nice bug.

There goes my idea. Altho fist I have to finish my
Wizardy mod. Maybe I'll get to the dungeons.

Cool!
Would be great if someone can get a sound sample of the
monks' chant when they heal your party member (from the
Amiga version).
Great work Mecandes! Man it makes me feel old to have
played that long ago. LOL!
